  1. And I think that because pete alonse has 1b next to his name and schwarber has DH that this will dampen schwarbers market. Id offer scwharber 100m/2 even becasue hes a significantly better hitter than alonso, devers, bregman. So sure as heck id offer him 100m/3 or even (gasp) 130/4. Unless its 100m/1, i give schwarber 100m+
  2. 9 figures is the new 8 figures, current free-agents, prob about 10 are worthy of 9 figure deals. Thats not because this is some rockin class, its because 100m doesnt go as far as it use to. Its not a watermark for elite talent. 500m is. I dont think that you are under some delusion that what your suggestions will get picked up. I think you are smart, a good baseball mind, and you like puzzles. So when we need a middle of the order bat, and theres a few sitting there - you may think yeah, we could go the simple route....OR.....If we do x,y,z and this player should play up here because, and heres what i see that many are overlooking My first year in the business world, they told me that my intelligence got in my way. And they were right, because as an accountant (then, not anymore) I would always overcomplicate because my mind was so focused on seeing things that others couldnt (and i did, often)....but when something was easy, i sometimes overcomplicated it. The things i accuse you of doing, i do myself. Because we're both smart, sometimes the easy answer is just too easy for us. WHen i play mlb the show on xbox in franchise mode, i go way out of my way to make it harder for myself. Setting rules like im not allowed to ever trade a guy i signed in free agency (becuase it would make the roster building too easy). Im not allowed to play more than 20 games myself in a season (because ill win with any roster if i play against the cpu and i wanna test my team building). Im not allowed to sign more than 1 expensive free agent every few years. So I force myself to get creative because i know i can. And I know you can. But push comes to shove, i want schwarber and really nobody else hitting 2nd or 3rd next year. Becasue hes better. Hes a better hitter than sean murphy, devers, alonso
  3. Wong can pinch run too. Hes not as fast but there is a lot of feel and smahts that go into stealing bags and some dudes who are fast cant do it and some dudes who even after giving up significant speed vs typical base stealers are still elite at it Eaton has proven to me that he doesnt have the "feel" but he did get hot at the end. They are both fine bench players. ANd so is Hamilton. These guys are fine as your bench as long as you have someone in the minors who can come in if there is a significant injury because I dont mind hamilton/wong/dham in a bench role, but I dont see them as fill-ins if there is a significant injury This is why Im in no rush to promote prospects, even if they are ready or close to ready, because they make for amazing depth that you can park in minor leagues and with all the attrition we see every year in mlb , i think there is a lot of value in this.
  4. The only ways I can see them not having wong next year is if either for some reason they expect major regression from nav and he becomes the #2 Or if they get a big bat do DH/C (and no im not talking about sean freaking murphy) and they think that dude can be fine enough as backup c. A couple dudes last year caught for the first time in years because playing your best 9 bats is in right now.
  5. Its 2026 (practically) the best players are signed to 500m+ contracts. We have a glaring hole in the middle of our lineup. If you are balking at plugging that with a $1xx,xxx,xxx contract than you are probably just either too high on the players we have, or you just enjoy solving baseball puzzles with "what you have". I dont sign expensive free agents in my video game because its too easy. Even with the lux tax on. But in real life, we dont need to disadvantage ourselves for funsies.
  6. And if schwarber and alonso cross the 200m threshhold, then i pivot to breg and if he can be had for a 9 digit number beginning with a 1 and the aforementioned 2 are off hte board, sure.
  7. my walk from schwarber and alonso is 200m. Any 9 digit number that starts with a 1 is a snap-call.
  8. Why be fine with players when you can have better players?
  9. There is simply no good reason to not sign schwarber or alonso to a 9 figure deal, if the first number in the nine figures is a 1.
  10. If the first digit in the nine digit number is 1 than yes! At least in this case. Why just roll forward the same roster? Because its fun to try to figure out how to best use what you got? Are you sure you just dont love baseball puzzles and signing players to holes is just too easy? I dont necessarily blame you, but I would recommend loading up the show on xbox to scratch that itch. Its the best game ever made.
  11. When I look at the level of effort put forth by our GM/CBO over the last 6 years, I think the thing that stands out to me....that we need.....is less urgency! Slow down guys!
  12. Wong will get tendered and prob he here at least to start the season. If anything, I see him getting flipped once the trend of washed catchers getting asked to pick up the mitt again to save the roster spot increases. But I worry about getting Schwarber hurt.
  13. There has been hyper inflation since Devers signed that contract, not to mention the 50m / yr threshhold has been broken multiple times. We'll see if contracts snap back, but its been how many years since Price broke the 30m/yr threshhold? I wouldnt count on the market for Alonso not factoring in that we've had 30m aav (at years) in the league for a decade, and some 50m aav players. We'll have to see. Fair or unfair there are plenty of cheap owners in baseball and the mets and dodgers cant sign everybody.
  14. Im not advocating for throwing him away, Im telling you why Im not saving a seat for him at the table and hes going to have to earn it back by leapfrogging dudes, and I am saying Im not confident that he will leapfrog the dudes he needs to leapfrog, even if he does stay healthy. Im simply not interested in his 93rd percentile walk rate, terrible defensive profile, one of the very bottom in the league in terms of athleticism and speed. He has a long swing, and isnt elite at squaring the ball up. He does have good bat speed and a great eye when healthy, so sure - those are positives. But the question that was posed to me was which one do I think is a better ballplayer, and I think its probably Yoshida.
  15. Yes. Or Schwarber, I dont really care. But I think Schwarber is the guy we need despite he's lefty and a "DH" but Im fine with Schwarber at 1b.
  16. Its A question, not the question. Its not like if they put out a timeline that was reasonably thought-out and not just thrown out there to placate, then all of our concerns on casas would just go away. Theres still the fact that hes one of the slowest , most unathletic players, and that doesnt get better with age - and he keeps hurting himself in ways that you would expect from an uncoordinated clumsy big bodied dude. Even if healthy, I have questions about if we even want him drawing walks, which are a major part of his game, and his hit tool and hes horrible defensively. He could yet still re-enter the equation at some point, I wouldnt like give him away - but he needs to be close to an afterthought until he forces us to reconsider. Yoshida, I dont think is starting from so far behind with as much uphill to climb. I see no reason why Yoshida cant become a serviceable first baseman, his left handedness being an advantage. I thought his biggest defensive shortcomings were speed and arm, both of which are secondary at 1b. The problem with Yoshida at DH is that it could be Schwarber. So lets fast forward and say we are playing against the yankees again next year in a playoff matchup. ANd Yoshida is coming up to bat 3rd or 4th. You mean to tell me you wouldnt much rather have Schwarber in that spot? So Yoshidas real issue is the opportunity cost. But I find it unlikely they get both Schwarber and Alonso, and I dont think they should go after Alonso because he plays 1b. Thats just overlooking that Schwarber is a far superior hitter and we need that caliber bat. I can see Yoshida contributing to this team next year, but I find it far more likely if he learns first-base.
  17. Of that bunch Ryan, but keller could leap frog him if the trade compensation demands are more reasonable.
  18. Your if is not in the realm of possibility, and the guy he was in 2004 was a 0.6 WAR Hes now 2 years older than he was when he hurt himself swinging a bat. ANd 1 year older than he was when he hurt himself jogging. Well, to be fair , he was running when he hurt himself the second time but it was the first time ive ever seen him do it, and it was ugly and im not surprised he got hurt dudes toast. masa is overpaid, but casas is toast.
