    Yup, exactly. It just gives people who root for bank accounts a tangible number to root that we stay behind, when in actuality its just pennies and no real penalties. Obvs when you smoke it and blow right by, it starts becoming an actual thing.

    We played 38 for Gray and Contreras, Bregman would have costed 175 and a NTC Yes this team has always been willing to give out 1 yr deals, even at inflated AAV to avoid commitments. Unfortunately, very good players who are south of 33 require commitments, and so we switch up to these YES CHEAPER options.

    The tax is pennies TBH, and the 10 draft slots is barely on anyones radar. Ive never seen a team run to 280 and then hard stop over potentially moving back 10 spots.

    THeres only one player on the sox Im scared of if Im an opponent, and that player is Duran (he'll cut you). Position player I mean, nobody is jazzed to face Crochet or Chapman.

    Contreras is going into his age 34 season, and catching, in my opinion, ages you. Lot of wear and tear on the knees. Im glad we have Contreras, but I wish we had Alonso.

    It also pushes out the cash, and nobody cares about the 10 draft pick placements at 284M. Teams go to 270m or like 400m. Its not like teams are running up to 284 and making sure they stay under. In basketball you see that. Theres legit basketball penalties after 2nd threshold so you see teams toe that line. In baseball , nobody is hard stopping at 284. And if so, its like 1 or 2 teams

    Also, we're not sixth. Luxury tax concerns are overblown. Its about the cash. Thtas why teams defer. The cash is the true expenditure. We're like 10th. And thats median, average we're prob average because top heavy pulls the average higher than the median.

    When he proves he can hit, he can join us. Im not trading one of our like 3 MLB proven hitters for a child.

    Im fine with Mayer in AAA to start. Its good depth, he never proved adequate at the plate, and the hole is harder to fill once the season starts. Would rather have too many good players than not enough. Forcing guys into PT is not a problem. They should force themselves in. By mashing in AAA. No slouches.

    Over the last3 years , Duran is like 120ish in OPS+ on average. Story , not sure, but projected right around league average. Im dinging him for durability. I dont want him hitting top 5 though. If he is your #6 hitter and stays healthy hes a good hitter there vs what youd expect from #6 So Im expecting Duran to be around 120 OPS+, Story to be around 100. Wouldnt consider Story a hole just on that, but Im shading him for durability. I dont have a lot of faith in Story being a major offensive contributor end to end , but a lot of that is durabilty.

    The way I see it, we have 4 above average hitters vs righties - Anthony, Duran, Contreras, Abreu and 5 offensive holes. Trading one of those 4 for Paredes leaves us with 4 above average hitters vs righties and 5 offensive holes. Meanwhile, I personally have a lot of faith in Tolle and Early.

    Id like to have both, so we can do: Anthony Paredes Duran Contreras Abreu Add in contributions from ROmy and Story, and we might have something if we stay healthy. My preference is to trade pitching for Paredes.

    Generally you dont trade your best offensive players when you seek to fix the offense.
