  1. Even more Louis Rengifo. It will get to the point where guys who are one position specialists are rare. Its already kind of heading that way, but it will full get there.
  2. No, anything can be fine. Theres a universe out there with a team that was 30th in offense won a world series. But my point is merely that having a great offense makes everything else easier moreso than having a great pitching staff does and having a great defense and hitting should be prioritized as a result. Im not trying to nuance / dial-in elite hitting vs having elite hitters and get all ocd about my word choice. If my exact phrasing is jumping around (and Im not doubting that it is), its not intentional.
  3. The Royals had crazy likability. Everyone likes a late bloomer and they had a few of them.
  4. Mediocre teams can get hot and win, it doesnt mean that without the benefit of hindsight you should be comfortable with mediocre hitting entering a season.
  5. Without elite hitting is my point. Trying to win in baseball without elite hitting is more trouble than its worth.
  6. The Nats had Juan Soto, Trea Turner, Anthony Rendon (who absolutely mashed all year and through the playoffs). At C , they went bat first with Suzuki. At SS they went bat first Asdruble Cabrera
  7. ^This dudes the man. Trying to win it without elite bats is like trying to win a super bowl without an elite QB. Sure, you can, but like the Ravens when they did - you need one of the best defenses OF ALL TIME, not just in the league. You can win a world series with an above average offense, im sure, but you need crazy good pitching, crazy good defense, or just ridiculous luck. Akin to trying to win a super bowl with a serviceable qb, trying to win a world series with a merely adequate offense is hard mode.
  8. Red Sox come up short in the postseason…because of their offense. While a Wild Card series victory may have fans dreaming of another miraculous postseason run, the train will end in the ALDS. Surprisingly, it will be the offense that leads to their downfall, as the struggles against left-handed pitching and propensity for strikeouts will stick out like a sore thumb. The Red Sox will steal Game 1 in New York when they knock out Gerrit Cole in the third inning, but Max Fried and Carlos Rodon will throw gems in Games 2 and 3, and though the Red Sox will send the series back to New York, Fried will put the nail in the coffin with another masterpiece in Game 5. ^^YUP!! The offense will be this teams downfall. Daniel Fox is saying it, Zips is saying it, Im saying it. And this is despite the fact that Mr Fox is extremely optimistic on Casas, and still thinks we dont have the bats. Cuz we dont.
  9. Your defense can be fine, your relief pitching can be fine, your back end starters can be fine. Fine is not acceptable for hitting.
  10. Depends on your goals, right? We dont need everything to go right, I dont think, to be a solid team in playoff contention. But I think we dont have enough hitters to be serious threats. But you never know and there are always in-season acquisitions.
  11. Campbell, I think is the most likely prospect to win a shot as a major league everyday contributor. Partly for this reason, but also cuz hes right-handed. I think his versatility will certainly help him get to MLB quicker. But Im not 100% they'll want him in a bench role, maybe as a supersub, but one who gets into considerably more games than not. Im not old school on very many things, but one cliche I do agree with is you dont want your top prospects sitting on your bench (but actually, Im not as against it as most because its not like your coaches cant work with them just because they are not everyday starters)
  12. You are going to see more Zobrists , more Brock Holts, more swiss army knives. Less: you cant put a SS at RF, what are you crazy?!?! Players are going to try to be more versatile on their come-up too. Different positions in college as opposed to the best one always plays SS, because they want to get themselves ready for the pros.
  13. And by the way we are at the beginning of the "versatility > consistency" philosophical mindset. Its going to get wilder. Much wilder.
  14. Basketball has gone in the same direction. Obsessing over positions is so last year. Its all about athleticism and versatility now. Baseball is a notoriously late adapter. This is a pretty savvy group but Im sure there are oodles of baseball old heads still repeating cliches, e.g. "guys get better when they know where they are hitting and where they are playing everyday" which pretty much translates to: "I dont know how to play matchups , so I wont"
  15. 5 years with an opt-out after 2 sounds like a good compromise for both sides. Only problem is he turned down like 150. Maybe hes been humbled since then or the opt out entices him. Agreed on Tor.
  16. I assume it was both, but Im not sure. Im just confident they arent going to relegate him to DH and they are going to give him every opportunity to be an everyday player somewhere. I can see a move to LF, 3B, even CF (not as likely)
