  1. Are these stats all encompassing? As in, do they take blocking , framing, tagging, and arm all into account?
  2. This whole thing has gotten nutty to me, but Im fully convinced that DHs are the most underpaid players / best free agent values you can find. A DH who anchors your lineup is worth huge. If he hits in the middle and is your top source of RBIs, that dude is undeniably extremely valuable. Occupying positions is not quite an after-thought, but for positional players....the value is the bat. Maybe a top defensive SS, maybe 1/2 of their value comes from D. And thats really the only place where defense can matter as much. Just look at everyones WAR. Its like offensive WAR - 4. Devensive WAR - 8. Overall WAR (everything included) - 4.3
  3. Theres also a durability component. I have no problem with Raffi DH'ing. We need the bat.
  4. Right , and you can make that projection right now, after another signing is made, and at any point during the season, and the projected fWAR will likely vary based on when you are projecting it.
  5. They do it. All 2025 WARs out right now are projected. Snapshot in time being when the projections were made.
  6. Agreed, but thats not talking about the same thing. The initial conversation related to the impact to projected fWAR at a snapshot in time (immediately after Bregman signing) and you are talking about fWAR at a different snapshot in time (after conclusion of reg season)
  7. Why these two is because they were outbid on everyone who they wanted who was better
  8. After 800 innings , your paying for what he did. At 200 , you are paying for what he is going to do (nods at Notin). Good scouts and GMs shouldnt need a long resume to know if he can get batters out. Trust the talent level that your scouts/coaches/front-office dudes assign to him (after all, you are paying your assessors). Trust your own eyes also. Proof is for p*ssies. Take a leap.
  9. No, our offense is disturbingly mediocre and we've signed 0 bats.
  10. I actually think our pitching is closer to the braves than our offense. Last year, their top position player didnt play a position, he was a DH :0 The year before they had 3 silver sluggers and Ozuna the fourth big bat , received MVP votes. Our hitting is not on this level. I was screaming about getting Ozuna years back. It shouldnt be too hard to get there. The league is underrating the impact of DH's/1Bs who mash. All you have to do is stop obsessing about defense, pitching, all these other peripheral things and return to what we did when we were successfull. Prioritize hitting
  11. Even more Louis Rengifo. It will get to the point where guys who are one position specialists are rare. Its already kind of heading that way, but it will full get there.
  12. No, anything can be fine. Theres a universe out there with a team that was 30th in offense won a world series. But my point is merely that having a great offense makes everything else easier moreso than having a great pitching staff does and having a great defense and hitting should be prioritized as a result. Im not trying to nuance / dial-in elite hitting vs having elite hitters and get all ocd about my word choice. If my exact phrasing is jumping around (and Im not doubting that it is), its not intentional.
  13. The Royals had crazy likability. Everyone likes a late bloomer and they had a few of them.
  14. Mediocre teams can get hot and win, it doesnt mean that without the benefit of hindsight you should be comfortable with mediocre hitting entering a season.
  15. Without elite hitting is my point. Trying to win in baseball without elite hitting is more trouble than its worth.
  16. The Nats had Juan Soto, Trea Turner, Anthony Rendon (who absolutely mashed all year and through the playoffs). At C , they went bat first with Suzuki. At SS they went bat first Asdruble Cabrera
  17. ^This dudes the man. Trying to win it without elite bats is like trying to win a super bowl without an elite QB. Sure, you can, but like the Ravens when they did - you need one of the best defenses OF ALL TIME, not just in the league. You can win a world series with an above average offense, im sure, but you need crazy good pitching, crazy good defense, or just ridiculous luck. Akin to trying to win a super bowl with a serviceable qb, trying to win a world series with a merely adequate offense is hard mode.
  18. Red Sox come up short in the postseason…because of their offense. While a Wild Card series victory may have fans dreaming of another miraculous postseason run, the train will end in the ALDS. Surprisingly, it will be the offense that leads to their downfall, as the struggles against left-handed pitching and propensity for strikeouts will stick out like a sore thumb. The Red Sox will steal Game 1 in New York when they knock out Gerrit Cole in the third inning, but Max Fried and Carlos Rodon will throw gems in Games 2 and 3, and though the Red Sox will send the series back to New York, Fried will put the nail in the coffin with another masterpiece in Game 5. ^^YUP!! The offense will be this teams downfall. Daniel Fox is saying it, Zips is saying it, Im saying it. And this is despite the fact that Mr Fox is extremely optimistic on Casas, and still thinks we dont have the bats. Cuz we dont.
  19. Your defense can be fine, your relief pitching can be fine, your back end starters can be fine. Fine is not acceptable for hitting.
