  1. These are the boxes I need checked: A true ace A very good pitcher who is not your true ace (another very good starter) 2 more solid-better pitchers An elite power hitter An elite overall hitter 3-4 more very good hitters Decent SP depth Decent RP depth 2 very good pen arms A team that when you include all those bats, is not awful defensively
  2. And you are including Bregman, so really you are showing me 3 bats. Duran (not an elite 3 hole hitter himself), Anthony (22 year old sophmore and soph slumps are real), and Alonso
  3. Thats too much of a drop-off after 4. Cant count on Story and Mayer to stay healthy. Mayer has not proven he can hit well enough to be 5/6. This is 1-2 quality bats short for my taste. So dont trade Abreu. Easy. Trade Rafaela or prospects.
  4. If I was giving a presentation to a team I inherited and somebody called me a stiff thinking he was on mute, I would pull him aside and ask him why he thinks that. I would ask for the chance to win him over. I would try to determine if he is going to be a problem. But the first thing I would do - is laugh. I wouldnt fire him because of my fragile ego. Breslow gives me tyrant vibes. Ive seen more leaders of this ilk flame out (sometimes they are successful at first). Now is Breslow an actual tyrant or has he made a few foot in mouth statements, and maybe made some rookie mistakes from a leadership perspective? I dunno, but Id trust Coras read of the situation. In either case, I want Breslow reporting to Cora, not Cora reporting to Breslow. Because the higher up you go, the MORE your personality matters. The more your leadership matters. The more your communication skills matter. Cora has these, so Id rather him be CBO and Breslow be GM. Because Cora is an effective communicator.
  5. Show me a deep offensive lineup 1-6 without Abreu and im okay trading Abreu. You start assuming KC and Meyer are going to be good hitters - you are reaching. You start assuming we are bringing Breg back (but not Gio) - you are being inconsistent. You start assuming Story will stay healhty and productive at the plate and Im getting a bit unneasy. I need an elite offense. Its usually the last teams left standing are the ones with elite hitting. Especially lately.
  6. 1. Replace Devers (great bat) 2. Replace the offensive player you are trading (Abreu). Doesnt have to be an OF'er someone who we are comfy with batting 1-5. 3. Then I am okay trading Abreu
  7. Asking how youd fit any plus bat in any lineup is silly in 2025. Teams figure out how to get their plus bats on the field. Ideal defensive alignment is so out. Versatility, plug and play, find a way to keep your mashers in the lienup is so in. Positions are hardly a thing in 2025.
  8. Id love to have a deep rotation 1-7. But even this year, we often have a catcher in our cleanup spot. Or a journeyman, so its hard for me to get excited about subtracting from the offense (yet again). If you are replacing the offense, im fine trading some. But I want very good hitters 6 deep (at least)
  9. And who bats 1-6 next year (do not include guys you are trading because you are concerned about our 6/7 starter).
  10. There have been plenty of bad GMs that have had a winning record at some point in their tenure. And ability to communicate, personality, salesmanship, leadership - these are all important traits for a CBO. I find Breslow to be brazen, arrogant, personality lacking. I consider these things important. I am happy with the team and current record. Im not necessarily replacing him after this year. But I think this guy might be too high up. You cant have a CBO with a bad personality. You can have a good scout with a bad personality. But salesmanship , getting others to see your vision, facilitating compromise, public face - these things are part of his job. You cant be a good CEO if you dont communicate well. You can be a good analyst. We'll see what happens with Breslow, but I find him to be arrogant, a stiff, dishonest, and not particularly likeable.
  11. I dont have to go by anything, but what I go do go by are my own experiences. And Ive seen plenty of leaders come in and do well at first, but you can still tell that something isnt quite right. Ive seen plenty of CEOs come in and go on about results but without considering input and without considering context. A couple things that broke our way out of dumb luck go the other way, and you are looking at a .500 team. Thats not a knock on the team, I do like it. But when Breslow talks , I am simply not willing to overlook the brazen lies, arrogance, robotness just because we are a couple more games over .500 than I expected. Everything in context. The context is that the Crochet trade was obvious. That Bregman fell into his lap. I still give him credit for these things, but Im not extending him nor am I screaming his praise from the rooftops. Hes had 2 bad deadlines and seems to leave a list of people who dont like him in his wake. YOu may think personality is not important, but I wouldnt work for him, and Im top talent (granted in a different industry). Personableness ALWAYS matters and it matters more than anything else. 90% of the success YOU will have in life is your ability to communicate. Getting others to see your vision is a huge part of leadership. There are red flags with this stiff, and im not willing to just overlook them because of our record. If Cora says he wants him gone, I get rid of Bres without a second thought. Even if we win the WS. If he earns Coras trust and respect, he keeps his job.
  12. I should say I dont love the person, not that I dont like him. I dont think AC's job should rest in the hands of this stiff.
  13. I dont like the person
  14. and a liar
  15. Bresbot , to me, is already well defined. Hes a less likeable ben cherington.
  16. I think you trade Duran and the brass lose the clubhouse.
  17. I wouldnt trade Abreu, but Id get over it if they turned around and got a real power hitter + kept Breg Youd have Breg, Duran, RA, and new power hitter in your top 4.
  18. Its a no brainer assuming someone doesnt come in an offer him a 6 yr contract at 20m+ per
  19. Mayer and Clarke/Early all freaking day. Would even consider all 3. Youd prefer Keller to Gio? Something to be said for having shown you can pitch in the AL East, right? Keller good fallback if someone pays Gio through the nose, but I would prefer to try to bring back Gio.
  20. I had a feeling by the end I was overexplaining. TY and sorry Moon
  21. Yeah but I think the fact that hitters have never seen him before can be helpful. But Im not going to deem him a bust if he struggles lol.
  22. I still want to promote Cora leapfrog Bres. If cora wants to keep bres on, Im good with it I got leapfrogged once. One day, I was this dudes boss. Next day, he was mine. It worked out. He needed me. He just had the maturity and leadership skills and I was young too ego-driven for director. I hated it then but understand it now (because I was too ego driven in my 20s)
  23. If he was optioned already this year (outside of conditioning), he has an option. You can have 0 options remaining and still be optionable. Because when you use your last option - your options remaining go to 0 but that last one you used is good for the whole year. So if he was sent down after spring, his options remaining would go to 0 but he can be yo-yo-d all year, but Im worried that you knew this and Im overexplaining which I get accused of doing by the lady quite frequently
