When I talk about the cyclical nature of roster bulding, im more talking about (if you think you can compete for a title next 5 years)" 1. Being willing to give an extra year or 2 on a contract to someone who plugs a hole in order to get the FA signed 2. On a short term deal, being willing to overpay a bit if that player you think is a missing piece 3. Flip some prospects for holes Youve never seen me clamor for "all in" , Im not black/white like that. Saying we are arguing Mayer vs Marte is reductive. We're talking about a lot of things at once, and its just more nuanced than that. And often, we're talking past each other without ralizing it.

    They dont. No timeline, no timetable. I think its still very unknown what (if anything) we are going to get from him. So COntreras can make some sense here (if BLoom is willing to eat a little more money, and Contreras can still catch some if Casas returns late). Geno also. Maybe even Bellinger The common denominator is positional versatility

    This is actually pretty sexy for a team that cries poverty , and now Im not really as into trading him. That 13m in 6 years is really equiv to 10.5 today (inflation), and thats not really starter money. That 10.5 in 5 years is really like 8 today (inflation). Maybe you just rotate around (and yes that would include some infield for Raf) but its not full time infield. So like Raf plays inf sometimes, sits sometimes, outfield most times Masa plays sometimes, sits sometimes, DH some time Duran plays OF most times , DH some times Positional versatility is depth. Also, there will be plenty of times when someone isnt available so the juggling will only have to happen some of the time

    another reason is because then we wouldnt trade duran and i could lie to myself that we made a big offensive offseason addition (duran), like i did last year trade deadline.

    There was also the time when the bench cleared, adn everyone was rushing towards the scrum and NOmar was like nah. Be mad at ownership, but youre gonna not get your teammates back? Arent you raging from roids and looking for an excuse to punch someone? (nomar, not you. i hope you are not roided out and looking to punch someone cuz that someone would prob be me)

    John Henry just sold the penguins. This is huge! I no longer want to punch him in the face!!! Now donate the proceeds. I take that back. Keep portion to invest on red sox (not all this year) , donate the rest. Still, this is great news!!! Our owner is no longer the owner of the organization that employed Matt Cooke!! This is probably bigger news to me than to you guys, but Im sure we have some bruins fans in here that didnt like jh owning the penguins. Matt cooke, for those who dont know, is a cheap shotting little B who ruined Marc Savard (bruins player) career with a cheap shot elbow.

    And its a pattern (focuses lapses) , if it was the only time ive ever seen duran loose focus, i would excuse it. Problem is its not the first time.

    But Duran did drop that ball.

    Its a treat watching him play OF. Its beautiful, its majestic, its eye-popping. It really stands out. And thats why, I think its overrated Its worth something, its worth a lot. Id love to keep him in CF, dont get me wrong. But I think Duran is the better overall ballplayer.

    cedanne could go, masa could play 1b. There are other players/pitchers we could trade for Marte. But if we're trading duran for marte, its at lest better than duran for more pitching. I think Masa would be fine at 1b, personally, and I dont think Casas is going to be healthy in 2026.

    Ive seen some of the best boxers who have 0 ground game turn into elite grapplers. Ive seen elite grapplers with no boxing training turn into elite boxers. Because whatever that fighter had that made him elite in one area is still there. How did Cedanne become sooooo good in the outfield? Work ethic, natural baseball instinct, athleticism, good arm I do see your stats in the other thread which show he was not the same player at SS or 2b (which is a recent sample, sure), and its valid but I still embrace positional versatility

    150/6, I will be able to convince myself is 150/5 with a free year tacked on....I dont think I would cringe. 180/6 and im getting nervous.

    I agree. Im offering pitchers cuz we have too many. Harrison + Dobbins + Fajardo Why Fajardo ? Because I just now learned hes a dude, never heard that name before. But I see him on sox prospects and its like finding a $20 in your pocket.

    Why is that my choice? If you are asking if I would trade Duran for Marte - thats a separate question. And the answer is yes. But hes not the first guy I offer. But my point was that I dont think its wise move Duran for the purposes of freeing up 8m. My "choice" is rotations infield/outifeld/and DH Sometimes cedanne plays infield, sometimes masa plays first, sometimes duran DHs. I embrace versatility. I believe positions are for dinosaurs. They are barely a thing in basketball, and I think baseball is moving in the same directon. You want to find a way to get your best 9 bats on the field, but you do NOT prioritize ideal defensive alignment. Cedanne plays some infield, Duran DHs some, Masa plays some first, guys move around depending on who is hot, who is healthy, if its a righty or lefty pitcher. As long as our defense isnt awful, I really dont care.
