  1. Yes, I get thats how we got into this mess, but I wish it didnt go down like that. When they couldnt get the cream to seriously apply/stay applied/serious candidates for CBO, they went and hired a newb at CBO and now thats gonna cause problems if you want an experienced GM to help the CBO. Hes either gonna have to be very old (e.g. semi-retired) or like have a few domestics on his criminal record. Cuz if you couldnt get someone great for CBO, you arent going to get em for GM who reports to a stiff CBO So most likley Breslow hires a friend.
  2. If Breslow can recruit and make a great hire, someone sought after who he can convince to join his team, it will be quite the feather in his cap. But we'll see If someone has options, Im not sure GM under Breslow is the winning role. Im also not sure Breslow wont just hire a yes man.
  3. My issue is that this feels out of order. Breslow should be our GM and the communication specialist/experienced hypothetical person you seek should be above him.
  4. Closest we have at present is probs Story (yes this is too much to ask of Story) I would also submit that asking RA to be that big bat next year is asking too much of RA
  5. I mean, Tolle looks the part.
  6. Why does he need to be dealt? I think he can stay on the 40 man and will clear waivers. He's likely AAA bound. But can be recalled if there is a hole at DH at some point in 2026.
  7. Marte is inexpensive and Suarez should be too. Bregman replaces his current AAV. Should be $$ for Gio.
  8. Not sure what that would accomplish, but in the context of this conversation - bringing in Castellanos would not make me feel one bit better about moving an offensive player. In fact, it would make me feel worse
  9. I agree there is a path to him being a DH on this team next year. And as you imply a lot of that is outside his control (e.g. trading an OF'er without signing an OH, DH, 1b)
  10. The one thing I am dead against , right now, is committing to certain moves. A lot can change. Part of my hesitancy to consider trading Duran is because those types of dudes (intense) tend to thrive in playoff atmospheres. Duran is a pest in a good way. I want him out there talking s*** to opposing pitchers, giving stare downs, running on the basepaths, trolling the other team through the media. I dont want him lobbing slurs, but I do want him lobbing insults. I would love to see him throw a punch, even. Now if playoffs come and none of that manifests, instead hes quiet and slumpy - a lot will change in my calculation of what he's worth. But in the playoffs, you generally want the win the passion/intensity battle.
  11. But we could lose Bregman, Anthony will be 22 next year and sophmore slumps are real. So that leaves Abreu and Duran, the two dudes who most are circling as trade bait and Im just over here like "no" As Moon often says, a lot of this will be impacted by what we do around these players offensively. So for example trade for Marte and sign Alonso and suddenly if we trade Abreu (or even Duran) we arent trading away such a large part of our offense.
  12. Point taken about return. But we traded our best hitter this year (devers). Duran is our highest positoinal player WAR and its more because of the bat. You want to trade him after trading Devers, just screams to me, we're just going to keep trading our best hitters. LIke we did with Mookie. How about if he has all this value - there is probably a reason? Im sick of trading very good players.
  13. 5'8, going on 32. Contact hitting is out and he doesnt have the slug. This is why nobody else made a competitive bid. I was excited when we got him, but he doesnt have the tools to have a revenge season. A contact hitter + nothing else = verdugo and we dont need another. As a base clogger, I care about his slg more than his OBP. Its hard to justify having him as anything more than a #8 hitter. If hes hitting top 6 in your order , its kind of a problem. So therefore, its hard for me to see him as DH. We would have to have Ketel Marte, Abreu, Duran, Anthony, Bregman, Alonso, Story all hitting in front of him. Which is possible.
  14. Too many "or"s loses track that these are all individuals. Duran, I believe is the best position player on the team, the second most important player on the team (behind Crochet), the energy leader. I do not trade him for ANYTHING. Early and Tolle, to me, are way more highly valued than the rest. I can be talked into trading Abreu, but I dont love it. But if its Abreu and Valera vs Rafaela, Early, and Tolle - I would do Abreu and Valera. But if its Abreu and Early or Rafaela, Valera and Dobbins, I do the latter. But if trading Abreu - you are absolutely right - who else we bringing on offense matters a lot.
  15. Its not about losing faith or whether he is MLB worthy or not (he is) - its just a , for me, finding a way to not trade Duran (especially) or Abreu but we'll see after this season. Things can change between now and then and while playoffs are small sample and shouldnt be used to dismiss a larger body of work - they do carry increased weight
  16. Im not a big fan of making your decisions through the lens of ideal defensive alignment. Its not really about thinking player x fits better at position y than x, its more of it being further down in my priority order.
  17. Different roles emerge on a team. Rafaela and Abreu do have passion and energy, but I think Duran is the rally leader. The guy who psyches up the teammate. The emotional leader. Im not sure if opponents are afraid as in shaking in their boots. But I do think this kind of thing has an effect. The mental side of the game is real, and I think that Duran contributes there. He is the epitome of a "glad hes on my team" guy.
  18. Reasonably well, sells it short. He's framing pitches, and he has a lot of pop for a competent catcher. He muscled that one to dead center. When you go dead center, you arent uncoiling as much as when you pull (of course , still uncoiling some, otherwise you arent swinging from your hips) but still. That shot was impressive.
  19. You DFA to buy time, kick the can down the road
  20. When you DFA , you have 10 days to trade, when you non-tender , instant free agent, but you can trade before the tender/non-tender deadline.
  21. BTV is fluid lol. That does seem like a steep differential. And Im not conceding I wouldnt do the alt to keep Duran. But I think there is a better trade than both. I offer Cedanne and Mayer
  22. Fire, passion, energy, weight room commitment, sense of urgency, emotion, rally-leader, crazy eyes, puts fear in other team. I wouldnt pitch inside to him, I lose control of one and he might bite my ear off
  23. but wed just extend him probz
  24. his value is his lower $$ so you can spend your $$ on retaining Gio, Breg and shopping for an additional star.
