  1. Brezlow and Cora should both be suspect in the way they handled the whole Devers, Bregman debacle, spring training 2025. Dysfunctional out of the gate.
  2. Why not make it 3D.
  3. I think its less about being babied and more about the philosophy of how they train pitchers. The reason they throw so hard now is because someone decided they wanted starting pitchers to give max effort and just relieve them earlier. Of course Im sure an increase in injuries wasn't a part of the plan but it happened anyways. Before I think starters valued longevity in a game so held back somewhat for preservation. They "worked it," and used more judgement. Now they are treated more like machinery to plug in where needed. Another thing this new way of thinking didnt plan for is the quicker wearing down of the bullpen.
  4. I am re-bringing up a pet topic with some new info I looked up. It drives me up the wall when Cora brings in a bullpen arm when the starter seems to be cruising, just because his pitch count is getting high, and then they immediately blow the lead. He did it in Sox/Reds game with Weissert replacing Early, and he did it many times last year. Not only do they blow the lead but it sends them on a losing streak many games after, like they are on now. I asked AI, "who has the most runs in the 6th inning, starters or bullpen?" They said the bullpen, and used recent data to answer (5-7 seasons). So the whole 3 times around the order is moot because data says starters are still more effective than bullpen after 3 times around. My other question was about people's argument for taking starters out early. They say they need more rest because they throw harder now. I asked, overall, who has the higher ERA, pitchers 5 years ago until now, or pitchers 10-15 ago? The answer was 5 til now had a higher ERA. So basically I feel this shows the modern way is not better, not even counting the injuries.
  5. If they dont turn it around soon, it can only be the coaches, manager and front office, not the players. Unless its the players we could've had but don't. That would be the front office.
  6. Should have traded him two off-season ago.
  7. Its obviously a balance and the balance is too far towards analytics. Are instincts nothing?
  8. I read an article that showed that a batter may perform better after 3 times at bat against one pitcher, but that it is not because the pitcher is getting worse, its because a batter is zoning in better. On the contrary, the pitchers actual quality is continuing to rise. The writer came up with a way to differentiate between the quality of the pitches thrown and whether they are getting hit. He said that the time in the game when the quality of the pitching is at its worse is when they see the lineup the first time around. So if that's true, bringing in a supposed "fresh" bullpen arm can also be bringing in a stiff, cold arm when the arm already warm can still be better despite batters getting better sometimes.
  9. I was saying this last season and it looks like Cora strikes again. People will get on Weissert but I say a reliever wants to come in when hes needed, not to replace a guy who's already in a groove.
  10. I hear you. I was rooting for them but understand your thinking them arrogant, I agree with that wholeheartedly. I think its why they stink. Giving them the lead back without recording an out after you just tied it shows no fight. Venezuela had all the fight.
  11. After that many experiments go wrong, it's time to stop looking at the players that come and go, and time to start looking at the one constant, the coaches and managers.
  12. If you are right, I agree. Not thinking about money, not resigning Lester was as stupid a non resigning as Mookie, though Mookie was younger. Its as stupid as any off-season decision of any team in any sport anytime. If you say Mookie came back with a ridiculous offer, that's to be considered, though Red Sox could afford it if anybody could. I specifically remembered Lester saying to the camera he was willing to take a home team discount. They both went on to win World Series with the team they signed to prove how stupid it was.
  13. Yes but he wouldnt be "willing" to do it. He's going to say that they're going to have to make him not play regardless of the record or who is waiting to take his place. Us as fans, of course, push the "for the team" narrative much farther than the players would because all we want and get are the wins. The players on the other hand prioritize themselves playing professional baseball first and foremost, before team or fans or even winning.
  14. And Yoshida was one of the heroes and he's not an all or nothing hitter.
  15. I believe more in higher average guys than the modern consensus. I've heard that people think Pete Rose is overrated because he was such a hit hunter but he got rings and WS MVPs and theoretically I think its because in the postseason, any kind of hit is good and it builds belief and confidence and momentum. Its better than the mounting pressure of striking out going for the HR.
  16. How about not playing?
  17. Thats a pretty wide stat. Whats does high leverage constitute? ARod was on a team with Ken Griffey and Randy Johnson as well as Edgar Martinez and couldn't get past the Yankees. How much of those stats are from his time with the Rangers? He was actually awesome with them...in last place. I seem to remember him choking in clutch moments with Yanks.
  18. When it comes to clutch, Jeter WAS better. And there was no one more pampered and ungrateful for it than Arod.
  19. The Jeter, Arod thing is more like, you do whatever Jeter wants because he helped you win multiple championships, crashing into seats and being clutch while Arod was being a diva, getting paid record breaking amounts of money by the Rangers while simultaneously complaining about always being in last place and having no other good players. Of course the reason they didn't have good players was because of his massive contract! The Yankees are going to replace Jeter with him??? I also would put pitching and defense combo higher than 50 %.
  20. Yeah and I was for some of it then but now its gone too far.
  21. And Cora swapping guys around is something I disagree with. I don't think it's just because of injuries, I think its a workable concept, to have a very flexible roster, where they plug in people based on their skill set for specific games. Its very anti-player and pro-analytics. It treats players like a stat sheet. Its also why they want a good farm system because you need lots of players who desperately want to make it to the big leagues, to make it work. Its also why you need a good "players manager."
  22. Wow, I always figured him in the same way fans see Mookie Betts, someone the Red Sox let slip away and paid for it immediately.
  23. Well someone should tell him that the goal of baseball and sports in general is to, oh I don't know, win??? The evidence is clear, Alex Cora and the whole organization puts winning way down on his list of priorities. And decades and decades of baseball says you dont have to rest pitchers like this. The more money they make the more protective they get. The more protective they get, the wimpier they get. The wimpier they get, the easier they get hurt. They're painting themselves into a smaller and smaller corner.
