  1. Red Sox Alex Cora sends message on being fired as season spirals Story by Peter Chawaga The Boston Red Sox are heading into a series with the Atlanta Braves on Friday at a low point, with a losing record and following a sweep. The team had high expectations of ending its playoff droughts after making several win-now acquisitions over the winter, including Garrett Crochet, Walker Buehler and Alex Bregman. Instead, their early season has been marked by injuries, clubhouse drama and defensive miscues. And while there is plenty of blame to go around, a lot of fans are pointing at manager Alex Cora as a primary contributor. "The walls have been closing in on Cora," Dan Shaughnessy wrote for The Boston Globe. "Fans are not happy with him." Cora signed a three-year, $21 million extension with the Red Sox last summer, suggesting the team is committed to him even through some significant struggles so far this season. But when asked by Shaughnessy whether he has any concerns about being fired as the season spirals out of control, Cora acknowledged it could happen. "It's like what the great Ozzie Guillen said - ‘When you sign on that line, there's always a chance,'" Cora responded. Cora also explained that he expects the outcomes to improve as the roster grows accustomed to some new roles amid injuries and rookie promotions. But after he backed off a potential move to first base for franchise star Rafael Devers, Shaughnessy questioned whether Cora feels enough urgency to win since agreeing to his extension. "Cora says he's not managing any differently since he got his security," he wrote. "He says the contract didn't change him. Not sure I buy it." As the calendar flips to June, the Red Sox can no longer hope things will work themselves out after an early slump. The team is clearly underperforming and, at some point, blame could rest with the manager. Red Sox Alex Cora sends message on being fired as season spirals
  2. That's great, but every team can say "Well, if you take out the couple of guys with the worst numbers it really looks so much better"
  3. devers has been swinging a great bat lately, no doubt.
  4. That's debatable.
  5. Again, the starters have the 21st ranked ERA in baseball. If you're happy with that, so be it.
  6. We'll see.........
  7. No, there's certainly some valid points in the article.
  8. Newsweek is hardly the only one out there suggesting he needs to be DFA'd
  9. Sounds like another example of poor communication between the front office, cora and the player.
  10. I guess I'm not the only one that thinks he should be sent down....... Insider Urges Red Sox To Demote Slumping Former No. 2 Prospect To Triple-A
  11. The one job he certainly doesn't want to do is team leader.
  12. Nonsense, many players over the years have been sent down to re-group. Heck, it even happened to Mickey Mantle.
  13. Umm, we're almost 1/3 of the way through the season.
  14. Wouldn't it make more sense for devers to be the player/manager since he seems to be calling the shots anyway......
  15. jh may or may not have, but it appears that cora has no balls and is being pushed around by devers.
  16. I think campbell would be best served by being sent back down and finding his confidence.
  17. The problem is the assistant GM, raffy devers, has said no to 1B
  18. The problem with that theory is most "real 1B" won't be available til around the trade deadline and the sox don't look like they have the luxury of waiting that long.
  19. Roman Anthony is watching the Red Sox break every promise about his path Calling Roman Anthony up now would further add to the Red Sox's problems with their young core. ByWynston Wilcox The Boston Red Sox are doing everything they said they wouldn’t do and Roman Anthony, unfortunately, has a front seat to it all. They said they would be patient with the young trio of Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kristian Campbell. Yet, the two latter players have been pulled in all types of directions as the Red Sox are unnecessarily scrambling. Mayer was called up to the Red Sox to play third base with Alex Bregman out and Rafael Devers not an option — remember the first base drama? Well, Mayer’s third base experience is a whopping six games. Before Mayer got his call-up, Campbell — an Opening Day call-up — has been all over the field. He started as a middle infielder, then played some outfield and now he’s taking first base reps in practice to eventually transition to the Triston Casas replacement. Now, the murmurs for Anthony are mixed feelings. Of course Red Sox fans want to see the core of the future that the Red Sox put so much stock in. But the Red Sox have shown they don’t have any idea what they want that future to be. Anthony’s call to MLB is probably overdue, but do you really want to see him called up at this juncture? The Boston Red Sox are better holding off Roman Anthony’s MLB debut for now At this point, the Red Sox need to take a step back and realize what they’re doing. They prided themselves on getting it right with their young players that they’ve invested so much into and that’s gone awry. They’ve mishandled two of the three young players, and calling Anthony up right now would add another distraction. Anthony isn’t going to be the savior for the Red Sox and that’s not because he’s not good enough. It’s because the Red Sox are going to end up failing him. They’re starting to fail the other two. The Red Sox said they would handle Marcelo, Campbell and Anthony with care, that’s partly why Anthony has yet to reach the MLB squad. The Red Sox have come up with every excuse imaginable to hold Anthony back. Bringing him up now would only create more problems. Anthony needs to be promoted, but not like this. They need to figure out how they’re going to deliver on their promise to their young core. They’re coming up short now and aren’t showing any signs of rectifying the situation they’ve put them in. Roman Anthony is watching the Red Sox break every promise about his path

  21. The sox starter's ERA ranks #21 in the majors.
  22. Just as a few more runs can be a benefit to the pitching staff. Ask crochet..........
  23. That's a big maybe while definitely having a fielding weakness at 3rd.
