in any event Montgomery is not enough to get the team into true contention and i would not lock into him on a lengthy deal.

You can't have it both ways Moon. Montgomery is at BEST a #2 SP but really more like a 3. The max I give him is a 3 yr deal with an option for a 4th.

Even if JH signs Montgomery he will be sure to dock him for days missed to date in ST

I think the Sox will sign him too but as you point out a 10-11 SP is hardly an ace. It will help some but it is still likely they finish at best 4th in the AL East

i agree that the total wins will be around 80 and that the team will remain in the mushy middle and still have an outside shot at the last wild card under the expanded playoff format. Hence they won't be dealing away any assets at the deadline because they will saying they are still in it.

i thought Sandlin doesn't require a 40 man spot so does he count against the cap?

Schreiber deal shaves close to another 1.2 million off the payroll. Scrooge Henry should be very happy today

i actually don't mind this trade. Sandlin seems to have some potential and has a wipeout slider. Of course Henry loves the payroll savings too.

that is my point. Initially I would not have signed Bauer because of his "me' attitude but the Sox seem to be counting pennies and Bauer would come very cheap there is no question I would take a flier on him.

To be honest it should NOT be a PR headache as the guy was never charged or found guilty. This is supposed to be a country where you are innocent till PROVEN guilty. i would hate to see a false accusation derail a guy's career. Having said that the guy actually is a jerk. I remember watching once when Tito came to pull him he turned and fired the ball into the CF bleachers -hardly a team guy. Still the guy is a good pitcher who I think COULD prove to be better than Jordan Montgomery as I see his ceiiing as being higher and he won't cost NEAR as much. There are several on here that feel that if we were to sign Montgomery we could be contenders. I don't agree with that but really what's the harm in bringing in Bauer on a miniminun or a M/L deal? It certainly won't break the bank to do so and COULD be the steal of the offseason. I mean wow already have the juicer. TB could keep him company.
