  1. It’s not about Renfroe, but the money being spent on JBJ when more money should have been spent on the rotation. If you can pay JBJ $10+M for the next two years you could have upgraded to someone better than Whacka for the rotation.
  2. It’s the Holiday season. Another week, and I might have.
  3. Hope all you want. Bloom gets a very low passing grade on this one.
  4. Yes, and those are the type of guys that Bloom takes a shot at, and turned out to be a bargain at $3M. JBJ is no bargain at $10+M for two more years.
  5. The point is that the Red Sox would have never given JBJ a contract paying him $10+M at the time he became a FA if it had only been for 1 yr, and now they will pay him for 2 yrs coming off a 160 season, and trading away 96 RBI in the process. Even in his prime his D would not make up the difference, and now at 32 he may have lost a step. I didn’t like this trade when it happened, and I like it even less now. I was all for trading Renfroe, but not for JBJ.
  6. For what he signed for in Detroit? Yes.
  7. I have stated many times that I would not give out any $300M contracts, and Mookie did not want to stay anyways, so if you look at like you said I would agree with that.
  8. You are all about the difference in money between JBJ, and Renfroe. All I’m saying is I would have liked more money spent on the rotation, and not gotten guys like Whacka.
  9. Only some on here would say Betts for Duggie straight up would have been a good deal.
  10. I understand all about the prospect aspect of everything, but if these prospects for Renfroe never take the field for the Sox the trade is Renfroe for JBJ. My problem with the trade, which I’ve said all along is that the Sox never would have given JBJ the contract that the Brewers did in the first place, and now they are taking that contract on for 2 more years anyway, and in the meantime signing retreads for the rotation. To me more money should have been spent on the rotation, and not JBJ. If more money had been spent on the rotation, which was the biggest need I wouldn’t have had such a big problem with this trade.
  11. I’m not giddy with prospects like some of you are on here. I didn’t like Jeter Downs, and Wong, and I don’t like the prospects they got for Renfroe who none of them may contribute much of anything to the Sox. Give me actual players like Duggie any time who you know they can play.
  12. I guess it depends on how high, or how low you set the bar for JBJ.
  13. A gross overpay is right. Bloom cashes in bottles, and cans, and shops in the bargain basement for starting pitching, and then goes out, and pays JBJ $10+M that they never would have signed him for in the first place after he became a FA after the 2020 season. Renfroe was a big surprise with his 96 RBI, but I don’t see any big surprises coming from JBJ’s bat.
  14. I’m all for improving the D, and I was all for trading Renfroe, but JBJ would not have been on my list to be traded for. I didn’t see it on anyone else’s list either.
  15. That’s all fine, and good, but the RedSox would have never paid JBJ the contract that the Brewers paid him, and yet took on that same contract for 2 more years after JBJ hit 160 for a guy who had 96 RBI. Now I know those 96 RBI were a career year, and probably won’t do it again, but at this point it is a head scratcher especially if the prospects don’t turn out.
  16. Prospects? Did someone say prospects? Prospects who might not ever play a meaningful inning for the Red Sox. Jeter Downs, or Wong might not play a meaningful inning either. Prospects are nothing more than that, which may never produce.
  17. The Sox did not trade Renfroe for JBJ, and take on a bigger salary to trade him off prospects, or not. Only Bloom knows why The JBJ deal was done in the first place.
  18. I don’t think Bloom is going to add starting pitching from the Bargain basement, and then add JBJ, and his $10M+ contract to be a 4th outfielder. He never would have paid JBJ the contract he got from the Brewers, but now he’s he going to pay him that for 2 years anyway after a 160 year?
  19. Yes the 96 RBI was a career year, or fluke by Renfroe, but the point was the Red Sox with a razor thin margin just to get into the post season needed all of those 96 RBI to do so, and even if Renfroe came back, or JBJ takes his place they may need the same kind of production to make it again, and not if Renfroe would have 96 RBI again, which he probably won’t.
  20. No he doesn’t pitch, and the Sox need a lot more help there, but I was talking about the 96 RBI that Renfroe had last year had to be made up somehow, and it would take a lot more than JBJ to do that.
  21. I’m all for having JBJ’s D back again, but where will the 96 RBI that Renfroe had last year be made up? While the Sox were a few games away from the WS they were also a razors edge away from not making the Post season at all, and needed everyone of those 96 RBI.
  22. Hamilton, and Williams not playing in Bowl game. Not surprised especially Hamilton.
  23. I just think if they are going to spend big again that next year will be the year, and Bogey, and especially Raffy should come first.
  24. Well said, and I’ve been saying since the off season began that how the Red Sox have done business in the past is the past, and Bloom wasn’t brought here to be like Dombrowski. Management said at the end of the season how they were to do business this offseason, and so far they have stuck to that plan, and to them being justified after getting into the post season last year. I don’t think JH wants to spend like he did in the past, and if he does I hope it’s on Bogey, and Raffy before he spends on anyone else. Next year will be the telltale sign after big contracts come off the books, but right now it’s short year contracts.
