No I don’t have a source, but just an opinion like everyone else. Every teams GM is different depending on what the goal is, and how much money they have to spend. GM’s in Boston, and NY are a lot different than Florida, or Pittsburg, or this year being a big spender like Texas. Dombrowski had worn out his welcome, and the Red Sox wanted to take a different approach of doing things, and that’s why I think that’s why Bloom got hired, which is nothing wrong in doing that.

Moon I know you know the answer to this, but with spending $40M last year how much did they actually add to the overall payroll?

I ve mentioned this before that Bloom got hired to scour the bargain basements, minor leagues, and waiver wire that he had experienced at Tampa something that the likes of Dombrowski, or Theo wouldn’t do.

I know I said they were not big senders last year, but big contracts were what I meant. I’ve been hearing you talk about $40M for some time now, so I wouldn’t forget about that, but $40 million wasn’t so big to the Sox not that long ago.

I’m not saying they don’t spend money, but just that they are not giving out big contracts at the present time.

I keep hearing that people say they trust Bloom, and he knows what he’s doing, and I’m not disputing that, but how he does business is not really up to him, but up to John Henry.

I’m talking about the last two years. I already mentioned their overall payroll was up there, but most of that was accumulated prior to 2020. The Sox offered a token contract to Mookie knowing he wouldn’t take it, and probably won’t extend, or rework Bogey. Then it’s a toss up on Raffy, so I’m not all that impressed with being sixth in payroll at the present time. The next two years will tell how they will go in the near future.

No the Sox Can not claim to be big spenders each year. Their overall payroll is up there, but they didn’t spend big last year, and so far they have stuck to what they said they would do this year, and not spent much either.

The deal has been questionable from the time it was made prospects, or not.

Sean Mcadams reported a few weeks ago that Bos, Yankees, and Toronto were the most aggressive after him.

He’s just not an outfielder.

Wishful thinking that JBJ wouldn’t need a platoon. He may need a replacement as it is if he doesn’t hit his weight again.

Lots of talk about Suzuki, and would be worth a shot, but the Yankees are interested too.

Do you think Downs, and Duran are very highly rated, and in demand at this point?

I don’t think they traded for JBJ to use as trade bait, and I don’t think anyone else would want him with that contract.

JBJ is not going to be a 4th outfielder for the money he’s making.

It’s not like Moon, and I haven’t agreed on things before.

Moon understood it, and I understood it, but we just didn’t like the trade. The head scratching part is how some were so hung up on that phrase.

I hope we are wrong on this one, but until we are I don’t like it.

No matter what you call it I think it is a bad trade. Bloom does not always get everything right.

Why do you think Bloom has the payroll to spend, and if he does why is he filling up the rotation with the likes of Whacka? I don’t think he has the payroll to spend, and that is why he’s making these kind of moves, and also adding prospects.

Bloom likes prospects, because he has to. Do you think Bloom would act, or react the way he does if he had a bigger checkbook like Dombrowski did? Do you think he would be making a lot different kind of deals?
