  1. I hope he can, but that is a big if. He certainly hasn’t earned his contract up to this point. I was all for the trade, but not for the resigning with a year left on his old contract, and a predictable TJ in his future, which did happen.
  2. That was my point the Sale hasn’t been a #1 starter for years even though he is paid like one, Sale’s ship has sailed.
  3. When was the last time Chris Frail was the Red Sox best starter? I would say the first part of the 2018 season.
  4. Raffy cranks another one. He is ready to start the regular season now.
  5. I would think Story needs all the AB he can get.
  6. Sounds like Story is batting 6th in his first game today. I don’t know if this will be the regular order to start, but I think if I’m paying someone $140M I’d bat him higher than 6th.
  7. Diekman. Another bad outing today.
  8. I think the starting rotation was set before the lockout began, and both Houck, and Whitlock would have started in the pen, but Chris Frail getting hurt changed all that, and Houck should get a good chance in the rotation now. Then depending on what happens until Frail gets back it will be a 3 man battle for two spots.
  9. Good job by Tony Mass on his first NESN gig today. Even had some good Bogey talk, by him, and OB.
  10. I understand that #1 picks in every sport flub every year. Why do people put such lofty expectations on high school, and college athletes? That’s an easy one, because that’s where the professionals come from. You may call a prospect that is on the 40 man club as technically reaching the major league club, but like I keep saying they mean nothing to me unless they are playing in Boston, and producing, or used as a trade chip. Bottom line still is the Red Sox have not been good at drafting, and producing good starting pitching no matter what round they were drafted in.
  11. I was talking about #1 picks in general. The higher you pick someone doesn’t mean they are better, or even turn out better, and that goes for all sports, so I don’t look at what pick in what round as much like most others do.
  12. I didn’t call it devastating, but my main point was that the Sox through all the years I’ve been following them is they have had a hard time drafting, and developing good starting pitching.
  13. This whole Ball thing started when I just asked the question what happened to Trey Ball? Amazing that it has caused so much excitement.
  14. Raffy is ready.
  15. If you draft a pitcher? yes.
  16. I was talking more about last year, and especially in Sept, and Oct, which I thought was inconsistent .I like Houck, and no i don’t expect him to come nowhere’s near a no hitter every time out. I just want to see what he does for a full year as a starter.
  17. I didn’t hear Cora say, but if Chris Frail hadn’t been hurt I don’t know if Houck would be starting the season in the starting rotation, and the same goes for Whitlock. The game has changed, which I think for the worse, but I don’t think the starters are as important as they used to be especially when they can’t go through the order for the 3rd time anymore.
  18. Why are we only talking about Ball? Houck was a #1 pick, and is a work in progress, who has been very inconsistent up to this point. I hope he turns out to be a good reliable starting pitcher, but at this point he is not. Groome was a #1 pick also, and yes he’s been injured, but at this point the jury is out on him too. There is a difference between a drafted pitcher, and one that comes in a trade. You have to give up something for them, and sometimes they cost more. I don’t really care how many pitchers are on the 40:man, but just what’s on the current big league staff. Like I’ve said before I don’t care about prospects until they are in a Red Sox uniform, and produce, or are used in a trade to get something good back.
  19. It’s not a shameful anomaly to mess up on Ball, but i think it is a bigger deal when you mess up when you draft so many pitchers #1, and they don’t pan out to be any good. It’s not like the Red Sox have the market on home grown talent on their pitching staffs through the years, and that’s why they have to go out, and spend millions on pitching from other teams. How many homegrown pitchers are on the staff right now?
  20. I don’t think Downs, Lugo, or Bonaci will get you much, but it’s worth a try. It’s amazing at times the RedSox have had some great OF come up through the system, and then at other times the the pipeline has dried up. It wasn’t that many years ago that Mookie became an OF, and even Brock Holt got put out there along with Swihart, because of the lack of outfielders.
  21. Sorry I missed it, but sometimes it’s hard to keep up, but Moon said you, and I are the same poster.
  22. I’d give him some more time. He’s still young, and could get better. Boggs wasn’t that good when he came up, but he became a pretty good 3B.
  23. Mookie was loved in Boston, and even he wanted out.
  24. Well you can call it gibberish, but in some instances I think it does matter.
