  1. You sure you're a Yankee fan? This sums up what all but the most optimistic Red Sox fans have been saying all winter. When it comes to quality pitching, it's like Boston is still in lockout. Unfortunately, the Sox are undefeated and lights out through the first week of ST, so what we see is probably what we'll get (typing reverse-acquistion post -- hey, it worked for Story).
  2. Eovaldi, Whitlock, Hill, Barnes (Barnhog Day: April-July overuse, Aug burnout), Sawamura, Winck, Valdez... and whatever Paxton can give us; Sale is doomed for sad and tired comebacks and breakdowns.
  3. Wander only played half a year, but gotta like his potential to do more damage as a hitter, just from his 12% K rate, compared to Devers' 21% and Judge at 25%. Vlad the lad was only 15.8%
  4. That's a big problem in a division that now belongs to Franco and Guerrero (and not quite Judge and Devers, like fans in the big markets still want to believe).
  5. She was a grampire, coming back to get him out of All-Star games, too.
  6. Sox know DHern can be a weapon... but used in the wrong contexts could risk the end of days. In the meantime, more neutral test sites are needed to ensure the safety of children and other living things.
  7. Trouble with his mastercard?
  8. Two things: 1. I'm still busy worrying about '22 to fret about '23... but if I have to, 2. I'm done counting on Sale; he's now in the bonus stage of his career (as in, anything he contributes will be a bonus).
  9. I think this makes it easier for Story to accept his new contract, his transition to second, to keep Bogie at short, and to stop all of our big mouths and typing fingers from debating his position for at least this entire year. Now let's get some damn pitching.
  10. Need a reliever? Sign Familia! Sign Hand! Who cares if they're past their primes! Need a bat? Sign Schwarber! Sign Castellanos! Who cares if they're both DHs! Need a new job? Someone in need of an instant makeover will always hire Dave! Who cares about the budget or farm....
  11. Sox have three top infielders and Yankees have two shortstops in the top 60 MLB prospect list. Something's gotta give...
  12. I'm not worried about his offense. Story has more career extra-base hits per game than Bogaerts in away games. There are plenty of good players who still hit after leaving Colorado: DJ, Arenado, Holliday. Their numbers fluctuated, but DJ won another batting title and his power increased in NY. Holliday was a four-time AS with MVP votes in St. Louis. Arenado hit 34 HRs last year. I think Coors is slightly overrated for star batters. Where GMs should really focus on is acquiring pitchers who succeed there. Story will be a righty pull hitter in Fenway who can run. And he won't break his belt buckle bending over for a grounder.
  13. This dynamic was discussed here before Story even agreed to join Boston. It could make for some awkward moments, or the three middle infielders -- including Cora -- could all respond as professionals and feed off the challenge. For all we know, Bogaerts could elevate his game, inspired by and competing with a new compeer. An extension before the opt out would also end any of that speculation. The reason Sox fans think this is a good thing: 1) the club just got better, adding an all-around star who has power, speed and D, a 5.8 WAR per 162, with a better rate of extra-base hits on the road than even X; 2) it shows, finally, that Bloom will offer big money to individuals to improve the Sox... which leads to 3) there is now hope that Bloom will extend Red Sox homegrown stars, instead of dumping them for prospects and alienating the fanbase.
  14. This is the ultimate goal, at least for our fan favorites. And isn't it about time that the Red Sox join the rest of the universe and actually develop a few big league pitchers from their own system? A few guys have to take the next step or at least be given the opportunity. Just from one ST game: I like what I saw on the mound from Andrew Politi, keeping every pitch down. Drafted in 2018, blah minor stats, but maybe he's found something. It happens.
  15. notin eats more sardines than me!
  16. Bloom will spend, but the word wild is just not part of his vocab. Once, back in college after exams, he put ice cubes in his Coke to make it fizz to the top of the cup. The guy doesn't even buy wild fish at the market; too pricey, with the added risk of mercury or other toxins. He's all about farm-raised, only with organic food coloring from carrots or beets (drop them in a pan coated with oil and they never make a splash).
  17. Whitlock Pivetta, wired Eovaldi, tired Sale, mired Porcello, retired Price, fired
  18. Depends if he trips over an infield bag jogging to the outfield...
  19. Jahmai just asked Vazquez about being the oldest Sox player in terms of service time. Vaz said, "I'm the Grampire..." I like it.
  20. There's a lot of that going around. Sox have a mask mandate for all catchers.
  21. Wacha had a good last month for the Rays, who then decided to start three rookies in the ALDS instead. Maybe it was all about the match-ups; Cashy looked justified after the Sox lit up Wacha in relief for a 20.25 ERA... which Bloom chose to ignore in his signing. "Hey," said someone in the analytics dept., "his metrics are bound to improve, now that he doesn't have to face us."
  22. We didn't even add any Pivettas this winter.
  23. Point is, Robles was unreliable the entire postseason, while Houston added quality relievers mid-season who helped win the pennant. In the World Series, the three acquisitions -- Graveman, Maton and Yimi Garcia -- pitched 13.2 innings and gave up one run.
  24. You know ERAs are more deceiving for relievers, and don't account for inherited baserunners. Robles helped down the stretch, but he and Bloom were exposed in the ALCS, when Houston's midseason bullpen acquisition -- Graveman -- was lights out.
