  1. In related news, future GM Cooper Criswell announced that Roman Anthony has signed over the rights to his as-yet first-born son, Marc. "We know he probably won't be able to contribute until around 2044," said Criz, "but we like that we control him for the next couple decades or so." "... except 7th and 8th grade," added Sam Kennedy, telling the truth for the first time this winter, " -- no one can control middle school boys."
  2. In the end, Werner predictably looked to a TV show to solve the Bloom problem: The Sopranos episode when the mob holds an intervention for Christopher, then they all beat him up.
  3. Today's announcement of the season-long Netflix docuseries explains a lot. 1. The Red Sox must be saving any big roster moves for the first episode. That's good TV! 2. Now we know what Werner, Sam and Brez really mean when they stress the importance of winning the Series. 3. But don't be cynical -- does anyone actually think Theo is going to let this be a weekly expose of how bad Boston sucks? 4. And the owners can't possibly allow this to be a six-month chronicle of Fenway Park being invaded by fans from LA, NY, Toronto and St. Louis... can they?
  4. Maybe the reason the Red Sox haven't dealt for a front line starter isn't because they don't want to give up homegrown talent or improve the club... or the absurd We don't want to waste a good pitcher's prime before our young core of elite prospects mature into All-Stars. Maybe they just don't want to acquire a front line starter because then they would have to pay him what he's worth.
  5. Agreed. The easiest way back to respectability is to put a legitimate big league defense on the field. At least it gives fans hope, and shows respect to those paying for MLB entertainment. Another defense like last year's, instead, will look like they're not even trying to improve...
  6. "Boston is on the brink of doing something bold." Bold, as in confident and courageous? Yet, the Red Sox already have a roster worse than the last two years of last place ballclubs. Doesn't a professional sports team have to be confident and courageous to look its fandom in the eyes and promise to be competitive? Bold, as in strong and vivid appearance? They already have weight-lifting muscles on O'Neill and tattooed arms on Houck... and Duran -- unless he's traded -- has both! SI must just be talking about new Spring Training uniforms... Boston players will soon be wearing bold faced bold jerseys: RED SOX.
  7. Typo, second word: omitted "s"
  8. Reiterations of redundant rehabbing regurgitating redos = repulsive Re-dsox.
  9. Nobody to the Red Sox. Truck full of stuff to Florida.
  10. Good pitching usually beats overrated Sox hitting.
  11. Pham: clean-up batter for team that lost the World Series.

  13. Almost Phamous. It's all happening.
  14. I didn't even know what they were when I was a kid -- and my father was a farmer (East Coast) -- but now we eat and see them all the time... thus, that particular shade of green is the wickedest. Plus, I read on the internet that avocados are the healthiest veggie -- so it must be true! Good source of fat, at least... though the missus, who's allergic to everything, has to make sure they're not from Mexico...
  15. You misunderstand my point. Of course, Monty helped Texas win rings. But there's no way any realistic fan is expecting him to do the same for the Dread Sox. Not this year. p.s. when I wanted him at last year's deadline, along with another reliever like Stratton (Tex. traded for both) for a stretch run, the Sox still had the pro bats of Turner and Duvall... so more of a chance than this winter's tank.
  16. Snell having a Cy Young year is a guy contenders should pick up at the deadline to put them over the top. Montgomery is a better option for a pretender that needs stability in the rotation. Rebuilds crave consistent veterans to take the ball every week, log innings, and take the pressure off the younger pitchers and batters trying to establish themselves, plus to give the overworked bullpen some rest. Investing in a guy like Monty is never just about one playoff push.
  17. "If you call me a liar, I'll call you a liar," said Sam the Bam Shamogram. "Nikki Mantle, Nikko Kavadis, Andrew Bailey, Bob 'Beetle Juicer' Bailey."
  18. Joe C. -- knowing how armed Sox' outdoorsmen were with weapons of self-defense -- got a little too excited with his last call at the end, which he blurted out before anyone actually got knifed.
  19. Red Sox should just trade for one of Baltimore's SS prospects and convert him to a pitcher; those guys can play anywhere.
  20. Boyd would've started Game Seven, then a rain-out gave Hurst one more day of rest -- and the ball. McNamara, after blowing Game Six by taking out Clemens (and lying about it), didn't dare not pitch his best postseason arm, if available. Boyd admitted once he heard he was replaced, he went straight to a crack house and blew his mind out in the dark. Turns out Hurst on three days rest had five good innings left, before blowing a 3-run lead. Then then bullpen puked all over itself again. My preference that day was to start the Can as planned, and let him go as long as he was effective -- then bring in Hurst to win the ring. The bullpen was already toast and couldn't be trusted no matter what, but Oil Can was a wild card who was whack enough to maybe not let the Game Six debacle bother him. At least in my first guessing...
  21. Or that the Orioles get to play all the other easier teams not in the AL East that the Red Sox will play. Hey, and so will the Yankees, Rays and Jays...
  22. Some candor from Alex Speier today: "the overall state of farm systems through the AL East suggests that the continuing emergence of a homegrown core won’t necessarily be enough to propel the Sox to a better standing in the division."
  23. Lucky it wasn't notin technicolor, because then you'd learn the green villain in the Wizard of Oz was only called the Wicked Witch of the West because that's where they grow avocados.
  24. Or they can just blame the manager of the greatest team in franchise history for transforming in one winter into the worst handler of starting pitchers ever for a defending champion.
  25. Fans can never know the extent of strain pitching out of regular routines, starters working in relief, and the high leverage situations that often come in late innings (especially with flags and rings on the line). We also probably might never know whose arm was hanging but ignored the pain and tweaked something more long-lasting -- because who's going to admit that?
