  1. Hah, Hendriks gives up a miracle non-HR and a laser bullet to short to complete a 1-2-3 inning. Whitlock would have had 3 dribblers, an error, an HBP, a walk , then the HR and been booed .
  2. Houck's flexor pronator strain is often a precursor to the TJS process. For his sake , I hope it is only a strain not a partial tear, but hope is not a strategy for success.
  3. Bregman does something well that some Sox have trouble with: Turning on a fast ball and sending it outward on a high arc
  4. Thanks for speaking in your inside voice, Nick With all the complaints about Cora's managing decisions and relief pitcher timing, does Andrew Bailey get a pass here ? or is pitch selection a problem for certain pitchers ? My understanding is that the catcher is calling the specific pitch based on the game plan info . The pitcher can shake off, though that appears rare. It may be hard to accept but it is somewhere on the pitching spectrum that our pitchers simply cannot execute in difficult situations . They are not that good. The 11 blown saves and high loss rate in one run games seems to support that premise
  5. The reality is that it starts with another Diva---Bello unable to complete 5 innings thus burning up the pen.
  6. Weissert was over 20 pitches in his second inning. There was no one else ??
  7. I don't notice Narvaez calling for changeups from Chapman, but many of recent game losing hits have come from off speed semi-breakers with 2 strikes on the hitter.
  8. Doesn't matter who we run out there vs Skubal. Actually need to win the one we are playing now
  9. 2 strike, 2 out pitching and the merry-go-round keeps spinning
  10. Great to see Hamilton jump on Kahnle's famous Changeup. BTW, how is it a change up if that is almost all he throws ? His FB would be the change up. Devers, with 2 on, found it challenging
  11. Whitlock has officially become a dead loser. Uses 26 pitches to labor through 2 outs before throwing up a 3 run HR ball. He has no command nor control and nothing to write home about. He genuinely sucks at this point. Of course he did strike out the side on about 35 pitches, so there's that, and he will not be back out, hopefully
  12. Just a question. The Red Sox future is built around a homegrown base of cost controlled potentially talented rookies and second year players with more waiting in AAA. Name one Sox young player that has shown growth and development from year 1 into year 2. Maybe Abreu. Rafaela perhaps has stabilized and plays to his ability level. But not Bello, Houck, Casas, Hamilton, nor Wong. Winckowski has regressed . Maybe Fitts and Dobbins are showing skills that will pay off. Certainly a few question marks regarding the Sox ability to develop maturing players. Some of this has to fall on Cora and the coaches
  13. Some things about Cora I do appreciate. Like pulling Bello with 2 outs in the 5th ( again) sporting a lead, but throwing some very sloppy baseballs. Brayan is not showing a lot of growth as a young pitcher becoming a force.
  14. As noted above, i see some issues developing with Campbell. Not running hard has also been notable in recent games. His ground ball rate is above MLB average and climbing tonight
  15. It wouldn't hurt for Campbell to spend some time in Worcester relearning how to be a hitter and play an infield position with some smarts. He gives all the impression this month of being the rookie he is, and in over his head
  16. Not sure why the U's won't call that interference . The runner was out of the baseline and blocked Bregman from catching the throw. Baez who would have been picked off, scored.
  17. Bello has walked the leadoff man in 2 innings ( 1st/3rd). Both scored. Hint to Bello, come out throwing strikes, like if only you could, you would, but you can't.
  18. Narvaez is the #1 catcher on both sides of the ball. Making me forget the name of that other guy
  19. What is it about Sox pitchers and giving up walks/hits/run(s0 in 1st inning ? This was a trend last year, now again . If you have been to the ballparks pregame , you can see it isn't for lack of prep both on the field and in the BP. They probably throw the ball 100 times pregame including long toss and actual mound work in the BP Maybe the pitchers should ask the Sox hitters because they certainly know how NOT to score in the first .
  20. Another Sogard-Hamilton day. Is Story sore ? He had a couple days off last week.
  21. Looking forward , how long do you think Buehler's shoulder will hold up after recycling into the rotation ? If it is sore in May, It's going to be sore in June, July, August and September. I just don't think there will be much effective mileage obtained from Walker over the season. Maybe 15 total starts. Perhaps he will have to go into the BP.
  22. It may be meaningless because the game was already out of hand but Sean Newcomb did go 5 & 2/3rds in relief on 98 pitches giving up 2 earned runs and no walks. He did surrender 9 hits, so not exactly dominating. In other news, K. Campbell extended his profound slump by going 0-4 with 2 K's adding to his last 15 game performance of .200/.573 with 21 K's. Mlb's pitchers will find your weak spots and exploit them. That is one reason all the calls for Mayer may be exciting but little guarantee of actual real results. Anthony hopefully is the exception to the rule and could bang the ball .
