  1. Could one of those few reasons be that none of the current players are particularly good fielders ? Another could be his RH bat, if he can have a good OBP , but Romy is RH as well and at least can fill at 3B and 1 b where there is no specific depth . The years of control also benefit Grissom, but not a serious advantage over the other young guys. My current observation of Gonzalez is that he needs to keep his hitting stats on track, and like others, improve his pitch recognition to get further ahead
  2. One other thought is that the core group of active commenters ( 15-20 guys) in both game threads and forums seem to have some mutual respect and tolerate disagreeing opinions or hot takes from others. There are exceptions but they are infrequent and quickly dismissed as useful to the discussion. We did lose, unknown reasons, our one consistent female commentator a season or two ago, and it would be good for you to widen the range of this site by having Ladies day Specials, as in the old days at Fenway.
  3. To be sure, Vaughn Grissom will be given the chance to maybe play a few games ( FT/PT) before season end, especially if Sox or non-contenders by mid September . Then he will have to go to Ft. Myers trying to win a spot on the 2025 team, that will be crowded with other young guys who have more experience from this year ( Romy, DHam, Valdez, Sogard) , not to mention the potential of a AAA breakthrough guy. Story will get one of the 2 MI positions, as long as he can last, so there isn't a lot of room for Grissom to be subpar . With his possible vulnerability to hamstring injuries , he is just as likely to cancel himself as not.
  4. Ban all politics and religious based comments, and insulting personally directed attacks on individuals or areas of our country. Other than those, I would be very cautious about censoring comments/language directed at facts or opinions about players, teams, fan bases, etc. Fans look for these sites to participate in typical ballpark debates about who, what, when, why. Let it roll. This site has been reasonably self regulating with a few exceptions , so I wouldn't wear myself out trying to limit the participants with lots of rules, that you then have to enforce.
  5. Not being a New Englander or lifelong follower of the Red Sox, you will wonder about some of the angst and negative commentary here, but it is all in good fun, since the Red Sox and John Henry do not pay any of us for correcting the poor decisions made.
  6. Yes, currently live in Temecula. Go to Escondido sometimes. The comment pertains to a frequent occurrence here that when any player fails to come through in the CLUTCH ( a denied concept) and is criticized , some commenters immediately go to season long or even career long stats to justify the player's existence. Alex Speier of the Globe, a Red Sox reporter, was nicknamed Stat Masterson by the NESN announcers for his in depth knowledge of the numbers.
  7. Another Stat Masterson justifying the past vs the future
  8. Credit to Garcia for getting them out of the 8th ,clinging to the lead. Good work, Luis
  9. 6 outs to go, 1 run lead and AC goes to Garcia. I know Martin, Jansen and whoever has pitched 3 of 4 nights. But this is the best the Sox can do. Needless to say, Rafaela messes him up on the DP although the ball was catchable
  10. Duran eats Wheaties. Glad to see his social faux pas had little lasting effect.
  11. Your points are valid here. Casas has been very good so far when others have needed a long period of playing time to get back in action. If any/all the Red Sox pitchers had a more reliable "out pitch" they would be far more effective with 2 strikes, 2 outs. These pitches can be taught and worked on. Bello is using his FB and change up to good effect.
  12. Ort's performance for Houston further displays exactly what some of us questioned last year. Dave Bush was a clueless pitching coach and Cora supported him. Brasier going to LAD displayed that , for an extended period. Ort was hopeless in Boston, a shutdown in Houston, WHY ?? Bailey was a few months late .
  13. Here comes the Devers defense team . Max, you can only win or lose the current game you are in. yesterday and April 1 does not matter, nor does tomorrow's game. Kenley himself said , after giving up the game winning homer to Diaz last night, you can only focus on the moment, not what happened nor will happen in the future. The reality is that the Sox are in a struggle to keep pace for an outside shot at the WC race, and Devers has left 5 men on base so far, 3 in RISP. O'Neill is just as poor a contributor. These guys are not helpful tonight when it counts. Maybe they will win the game, maybe not. But when given the chance they are a little short.
  14. F'ing Nick Pivetta. Only 2 HR's in 4 .1 innings. The Canadian answer to tequila shots
  15. O'Neill 4 for 21 in last 7 games with 9 K's and .536 OPS . He is a RH bat, so there's that, but definitely not making himself valuable now.
  16. Calling it ahead, Altuve will make Nick's sloppy effort go south quickly Reverse MOJO works far better than positive thoughts. Nick had Jose A eating out of his hand with the DP
  17. Not sure how you could pitch worse than Nick Pivetta in the 4th . Given the gift of another lead, he truly sucks
  18. i do not mind Duran's message T-shirts. if you can play, you can play and come through when others don't. He made himself a player, no one did it for him. Having said that, he probably doesn't realize how many millions he may cost himself over the next 3-4 years as he gets into arbitration, extension offers and finally FA
  19. Cedanne is an interesting dilemma . His approach and plate discipline is not good at all, but his statisical results are above average to very good for a virtual rookie. With a little improvement , Rafaela would be star quality
  20. Nick's leadoff walk scores. The rocket ground rule double may never touch the earth again. Nice work Nick
  21. According to some he is #1 in most everything
  22. Casa problaly got screwed by the Ump, if not himself, always looking to step away, but Devers missed 2 hittable balls for a LH'ed before gagging on a change up. Also his mustache is a joke, like his AB
  23. Yes, then trade him as part of a package for someone with ability. I assume you can QO and still trade the jerk.
  24. Moon, this is really getting hard to take that either the defense fails to make plays behind the pitchers , the bullpen thinks 2 strikes and 2 outs is a complete package, or guys like Pivetta blow a 3 run lead in the first inning. The real issue for me is that too many players/pitchers seem to have no innate ability to be a winner when handed a gift.
  25. F'ing Nick Pivetta is a real piece of work. Should be a good #3 pitcher but instead is a pure SoS.
