  1. Casas continues with hitting, nice shot over the Monster, but O'Neill keeps his 1 for 33 alive. Story outthinks himself and team by a pick off/ failed SB attempt before Casas's HR. Keeping it real and SOLO.
  2. Can any of the survivors hit the ball off the wall, or maybe over it ? Crawford will need help.
  3. The Paxton and then Hill acquisitions were odd moves for a team still in contention. In retrospect, both were useless gestures , not moves of a team competing. Breslow has made some improvements but very offset by players/pitchers put on the field this year. Is it possible that he is not a good judge of MLB talent despite his playing experience ? Or is his Yalie analytic intelligence getting in his way, a la Bloom ?
  4. Pivetta screwed again by the hapless fools carrying sticks up to home plate. This team could cure you of going to home games. 37-42 at Fenway. If that was 40-39, the next couple games would still be meaningful.
  5. Rethinking Conor Wong as the #1 catcher. That may actually be a need, not often thought as such. Wong could be an excellent bench piece capable of playing 1B, C, and a MI position as well as a RH PH'er and possible PR'er. As the primary catcher, I am no longer sure . He did make a nice throw to get the Ray's PR but then he K'ed chasing two, not so great sliders. This team needs runs at Fenway. I doubt Teel is ready but maybe by June 30, he is in Boston .
  6. Oh, and BTW, Brez, you might want to look at the BP for someone who can throw a strike.
  7. This fart in the wind offense continues to suck at Fenway. This would not be a good game to lose. neither were the other 79.
  8. Looks like a L-R-L-R..... etc until 8 & 9. Pretty much Cora's dream lineup.
  9. It took a lot of back of envelope figuring but I worked out that it is mathematically impossible for both the Red Sox and the Rays to finish the season at .500 or above. No matter how you slice the 3 game set, one team will be sub .500. Not a great achievement but after 2 years of consecutive 78-84 outcomes, I would prefer that the Sox win 2 of these 3 , and leap the .500 barrier. As MVP 78 says , just 1 win locks it in . The excitement level could not be higher
  10. When a Red Sox exec tells you that they may have interest in a player , it's like me saying I am interested in a Ferrari if the deal on the Lambo doesn't work. Be prepared for smoke to emanate through your GI system . I do wonder if O'neill's odd ratio of HR's to relatively low RBI's is simply a statistical fluke, guys in front of him not reaching base often enough or adjustments he makes , physically or mentally, when RISP opportunities are in front of him. Here's O'Neill's problem , only 98 hits and 18 doubles in 461 PA's.. The HR's highly inflate his OPS to the .840's without generating a lot of runs besides his own. Vald G , Jr. is only viable if they do dump Yoshida and his contract baggage. Possible but not real likely
  11. If you had to find just one reason for the demise of a team 11 games over .500 pre A-S break, it probably is the 18 blown saves after the break. But it was the perfect storm of starting pitching in late July-August ( later recovered) , a team wide epic batting slump in September , poor infield play (errors) , excessive Hr's allowed, and no significant pick ups at the deadline, in fact, negative pickups for relievers Going 4-3 vs White Sox didn't help . Swept by O's, Dodgers, Mets. Just win one more game every other month would have put them in.
  12. It took until the middle of the last week to get eliminated. It never was a playoff team once the injuries piled up beginning with Giolito and consuming the SS, presumed 2Bman, Casas, Yoshi foir 45 games , etc. They better be better in 2025.
  13. Joining your minority, and maybe it is not such a minority among long time followers of the Sox. Win a WS wearing them and we can change our minds
  14. The more he is on base the better the Sox score. If he has something to work on it would be his 24% K rate and duplicating 2024 will be no easy feat for him
  15. I know Cora is saving the BP for the Playoffs, but it should be fairly obvious by now that Winckowski is a one inning pitcher. He is not the answer to long relief except in a blowout. He tries hard but gets blasted in his second inning, throwing over 40 pitches get 6 outs
  16. Glad you brought that up . Jarren will prevail in this arbitration, just matter of how much he asks for. But this is only Arb#1 of 3 and Jarren is already 28. For a big payday, he will need to duplicate this season at least one more , if not twice and be a 30-31 year old FA. Not a great position to get the big bucks.
  17. His speed probably helps on defense too . Hard to picture anyone coming around 3B faster/harder than Duran. One thing Duran is very good at is cutting the corners at all bases very sharply, enhancing his speed. Very few wasted steps
  18. Wong initially appeared last year to be able to throw out Superman trying to steal but his overall defense and ability to block or even hold on to pitches has deteriorated this year.
  19. Isn't this game the dreaded "mathematically eliminated" finale to 2024? Even if the Sox make a comeback and win, Tigers and Royals are both winning after 6 in their games with a 3.5 game lead ? It has been an interesting season. Now we can let some of the young guys play vs Rays and have some fun. Oh wait, they have been playing all year. Maybe that's why it's time to book a few tee times for next week.
  20. What is the chance of trading for that fat beer league softball catcher Alejandro Kirk before he does more damage to the Sox. ?
  21. Why not just acquire the whole A's franchise, keep what we could use and send the remains "return postage' to Las Vegas or Sacramento where that woe begotten ballclub will need to hide for awhile.
  22. Fitts, who has now allowed multiple earned runs, should be chastised and castigated by the Red Sox faithful for not setting any records at all in his 4 starts. What a sham. Send him him back to WooSox or even the Yankees as damaged goods
  23. Fitts may have to accept the fact that he has allowed 2 unearned per Illinois, but his performance in his starts, including today, seem to show that he has a serious shot at helping this team going into 2025. His motion and command looks like that of a pitcher, not just a thrower
  24. I would literally scream if they run the table after making some late, late season sit-downs of guys who physically couldn't play anymore this year. The 3rd WC is a joke, but it is a ticket to the event, and you can't win it all if you are not there. Of course it might be hard to find a set of pitchers for a WC game. Could have been an Opener type game, lol
  25. A potential 5 game win streak on tap ?? Who knew what these guys are capable of ? I will say that watching the smoothness and timing of Story at SS and Grissom at 2B on a DP ball is miles and away beyond Valdez and Hamilton.
