So glad the infield defense is much better. Between Campbell being a true rookie and Story's inability to throw, this game just went upside down. Kristian had position to go to the bag and throw hard across his body to first -

Sox get the one before Story K's with men on base. Now all we need is 9 more outs and no runs allowed to chalk this one up. Pitiful

HP umpire giving some serious gifts to Buehler to help hold the shutout . Walker hits a guy with 2 outs then goes 3-2 on Bichette , throws ball 4 but it is called strike 3. Major difference. When your team cannot support you with a few runs, take what the baseball gods are giving.

Red Sox have played 30 innings vs the Jays and scored 4 runs. The pitching has been good enough to be competitive in these games until late innings . Someone has to wake up and hit a 3 run jack.

The #1 team in K's , keeps it rolling. Swinging, taking, multiple fouls --- doesn't matter , just get that K so the Sox can be #1 in something. Seriously , when a team leads in a negative stat , it isn't any one player, it's several and perhaps a bad approach to hitting. One example is Casas back to umpiring again on very close pitches.

Now 10 K's of 18 outs. Wasted both of Raffy's doubles. Meanwhile Houck is pitching a good game with a major assist from Casas on the rocket to 1B, turning into a DP

Now 8 of 15 outs by K, over 50% But I guess Blue Jays have excellent pitching and our pitchers should be throwing shutouts every night.

6 out of 12 outs so far by strikeout. These types of k rates will kill this team. Inability to put the ball in play is a real problem

They hit the 11 K ( 40% of outs) threshhold with Bregman's multi-K game. 11 K's; 1 B, not good

And there is 10 through 7 innings as Duran worsens his chasing bad pitches. Maybe all the exposure on his life story is putting on pressure to overachieve . In any case, he is not going well.

40% of 27 outs is 10.8, but call it 11 . Sox have 9 through 6 2/3rds . Maybe there will not be any more, but unlikely. Rafaela shows what can happen when you put the ball in play, getting an RBI on a high bouncer through the infield. The K rate is actually intolerable across these guys.

Who knows, with Lucas gone maybe the ever come from behind Sox can beat the Jays BP on a cold night.

If Devers had accumulated Bregman's 3 errors in 11 games, it would have been expected , if not appreciated. That inning should have ended 1-0, survivable, But Campbell's throwaway and a roller through SS puts the game very close to the loss column. The infield defense is only better on paper and in opinions, not in reality

Noticing more that Story's throws from SS are weak and inaccurate. This has been alluded to by other comments here . Yes, it may be cold making the ball slick but Lucas is having no issues pitching it. I hate losing the shutout to Springer because he is so predictable as the guy to beat you. Sox lineup may have been spoiled by the slugfests vs the Cardinals and now don't think they need to work at it. Sorry for Crochet if he loses this one.
