  1. If Kingery gets anything but FB's, then screw Leon's pitch calling
  2. Get ready , here come the breaking balls in the dirt
  3. Cannot pitch with 2 strikes, and beat the hitter with stuff close enough to chase or down. Not just Joe, but several relievers.
  4. Saw enough to overturn ?? Win some , lose some
  5. Pearce can hit Hunter, who is a slob
  6. Got to love Devers no clue single. He had apparently talked to EO about his hitting plan on the first two pitches, then forgot the plan
  7. EO-- 2 strikes, 2 outs, no answer. I appreciate Leon's pitch mix solution to confusing the hitters but back in the 3 run inning there maybe should have been more hard FB's . especially to Santana off the bench.
  8. One thing for sure is that the fat Panda money would not be an anchor around their neck. Devers would still be learning his trade at the correct level, and who knows where the hack Middlebrooks and Shaw would have gone . Probably in trades as they bumped into Beltre's bat.
  9. You sure don't see any emotion out of him, which is OK, especially if he was doing something useful. He must be taking clues from Porcello and Barnes on how to control your enthusiasm.
  10. Odd what happens when a LH comes after the Sox ( Morgan, Phillies reliever)
  11. Back to ground zero on some poor AB's with sacks full, and fielding/pitching misses.
  12. Santana's bat is illegal. Just ask Geo. Brett
  13. Eovaldi, we will come to realize is nothing special. Maybe just start him in home games. BTW, Devers error and MM's missed pick comes home to score.
  14. Actually the comment should be that MM should have challenged the throw, which sucked, but he was protecting himself against a toe, ankle, knee, hip possible contusion. Always looking out for Mitch. At least JBJr hit the ball.
  15. Why waste electrons on the obvious ?
  16. A NY-Astros play in game would be a great help towards reaching the ALCS
  17. Rafael Devers is in a funk and not making contact. He bailed out a trashy pitcher with the bases loaded. Should be a kangaroo court fine to not make contact with the bases loaded.
  18. Just a guess, but with Monday being August 20th, I bet Erod gets 2 rehab starts in Pawtucket and magically appears ready to go on September 1st, where he could get 5 or 6 starts before the playoffs.
  19. I'm sure there will be other situations (i.e. 2B) that will require a lot more thought by Dombrowski than having to move a great defender and streaky hitter like JBJr , especially if we go to the Series with Jackie contributing. I would think he's a keeper all the way to FA. The shuffle of the deck is way more likely to occur among the pitchers, both starting and relievers. DD has Holt, Nunez, Pearce, Swihart, Kinsler to figure out before he would look at JBJr. Plus Pedroia's ability to return or not will be a major Spring question.
  20. Looking at this 141 page thread regarding trading JBJr, what if Dd had moved him way back when ? Probably would have been up to 282 pages by now. For the record, you will not see a waiver wire trade of JBJr this year .
  21. Agreed that Devers should be playing since he's not derailing the pennant run . It would be more encouraging if the At Bats showed signs of pitch recognition and that he will not get strikes to hit until he learns some basic discipline. It won't happen this way but Cora should let him go a game or two and never take a swing just so he can see where the various pitches end up, and how to see the release and spin on the ball. Maybe standing in for some bullpen side sessions with the starting pitchers could achieve some progress on seeing the pitches. He still needs to catch up with the fastball as he did last year with Chapman. That's not the guy we are seeing now. The fielding will improve with reps , coaching and experience. It would be a shame if the Sox wasted this talent by having brought him up too quickly, saw some early success and then slumped into Middlebrooks land wrecking his confidence.
  22. Although Porcello has the highest ERA among our regular starters, he is the only won with a reasonable chance of getting to 20 wins, which is more of a team success than the pitcher alone. That's why Chris Sale isn't about 16-2 already. Sale and Porcello (when he's on ) make for a good duo in a 5 game playoff series.
  23. Like many here I have watched and followed this franchise from Yawkey to Henry, and it is the first time that I assume they will prevail no matter the score or situation. For the younger crowd, enjoy what you are seeing. It is rare and special. A real team that picks each other up, and damn the individual stats.
  24. Did Devers just try another cricket hit ??
  25. ******* catcher doesn't even try to catch the ball
