  1. And if the Red Sox won last year's WS, we would be calling them 5 time Champions of the 21st century Deal with reality. KC';s extension was unnecessary and a real mistake. He is either physically incapable or maybe it's mental. In either case he is seriously rich and does not have to produce.
  2. With the benefit of hindsight and letting some time pass, it should be apparent that Chaim Bloom was not ready to be a MLB CBO. Maybe he is now, over in St. Louis. I think he was given orders from ownership to break the mold, reorient towards building the minor system and choke off the spending. Not sure how a neophyte could have done a lot else. The relevant question now is whether Craig Breslow is the right guy to have a long run of competitive teams. The Devers situation had many fathers , including Raffy, and at the time showed the immaturity or communication inability of a Yale STEM grad dealing with a spoiled Dominican of lesser education.
  3. Masa's fate will only be determined at mid season when the pill of his contract will be more easily swallowed. Yoshida will either come into some role (DH or bench PH) as a result of another player's injury, lack of performance or illegal betting scandal . Yoshi will then either perform well and create some value or will fail , or even get injured arm pumping to 1st base on a DP rollover and eliminate himself. He will not be carried into the 2027 non-season regardless of his contract. I hope he gets some AB's and hits well in early 2026 increasing the Sox output and options for this pleasant man.
  4. That brilliant video of the pig getting fed made me realize that Wong has apparently lost any mojo he might have recovered this offseason and will not be around for long. K. Campbell will be around for awhile longer but not at Fenway, more assuredly Worcester. A few line drives, so far ?? He has a long way to go but can always tell his grandkids one day that he started the 2025 season for the Red Sox , not so much after. If the WBC is the true "WORLD" championship series then what is the set of games played in October/November among a very limited group of American and one Canadian team ? Definitely not the World Series.
  5. Nice show of power today including Duran's 2 HRs and Max Ferguson's grannie to seal it. Mixed reviews on pitching but outscoring the oppo leads to wins in any case.
  6. Would their initials be Anthony, Rafaela, and Abreu ? But as Moon notes, it's insignificant at this point in time, and likely really is .
  7. Even Mickey ( Mantle) Gasper had a hit and walk. More significantly , only 1 K all day ( A. Castro). Also significant , only 1 HR in an 18 run game against collegians
  8. He'll get 60 , if only in the games at Fenway to show Bres what a RH'ed power bat is.
  9. Without question , the worst in the AL . Wasted multiple years with Ohtani and Trout in the lineup.
  10. If for no other reason than his injury history. Try to get Mayer through a full season of maybe 100 games, plus some PH or late inning defensive appearances
  11. The right answer to the poll is 91 wins , better than 2025 but certainly not a dominating team . The 2025 team lost a starting pitcher f(Crawford) rom the get go, a second ( Houck) and its 1Bman /alleged big bat early . Bregman missed a lot of mid season and stretch games Heck, it took Anthony a whole week to start hitting, then Mayer went missing. This team will be in great condition and avoid season wrecking injuries .
  12. This year is quickly shaping up for Casas as another where he won't get 650 PA's , so his real contribution to the team is diminished due to last year's injury. I am looking for Casas to stay on the IL and then at Worcester for at least 3 months, near to the time Breslow makes a move on Masa, or someone else's injury open a slot for Triston.
  13. Masa either needs to get enough reps to show what he can do or not do, and then the clarity can come on disposing of him as a dead money contract or extract some minor value from a team needing a hitter at the deadline, probably as part of a bigger trade. This won't happen until late July 2026 , so effectively Masa puts another player back at WooSox for 4 months+-.
  14. So after the reveal that Romy Gonzalez is limited ( temporarily?) by shoulder issues from late September, does anyone really think that will be the only physical issue that comes into play during ST as the 26 man roster gets settled ? Breslow did not get the Big Bopper , who with 26 Hr's, could only affect 1 game per week, but he did load up on flexible guys who can field a competitive team nightly, if the pitching performs to plan. I'm ready to see them play and then analyze some of the results.
  15. Past their expiration date IF's in volume ? Got to be secretly setting up for the big deal during ST where Bres trades 4 UT's for a legit 2Bman, but not likely. Rodgers won't be having a big bat order after March 28th. he doesn't use them
  16. brilliant but nuanced move by Breslow. 3 seats on the bench , in addition to Wong, and we have a non position DH ( Masa), so Bres obviously is loading up with IKF to make a HUGE trade during ST . Don't know why all of you can't see the brilliance here. Utility guys bring results .
  17. Get through ST and the first month or two and see what performance comes from the existing roater . The season won't be won or lost . Injuries, which occur every year, may arise that either puts Masa in the lineup or set for DFA. Rengifo is no answer except as a 4th utility player.
  18. Whether or not Masataka is tradable under any scenario will be a good debate this ST/season and by July 31 we will know. Assuming Yoshi's 2026 contract is just over 65% burned by 7/31, the Sox would need to throw in about $5MM for the rest of 2026 and probably take on another team's bad deal to cover 2027 or whatever happens to old contracts under the new TBD CBA for 2027 and after. Think about what team would need a low power DH ? It would have to be some team with an injury situation, needing a DH or LH PH, on the fringe of contending for a WC slot . That may be a rare bird.
  19. And Fred, why don't the players themselves outperform their expectations and BWars, FWars, Dwars and win the games on the field . JH, TW and CB don't play the actual games . The implication that salaries equal performance is wrong . Players need to challenge themselves to be the best they can.
  20. I can only hope that Lou's prognostication is accurate because Abreu otherwise becomes this team's Trot Nixon, a serious competitor but not a star player
  21. The Dodgers almost absurd contract with Kyle Tucker, not a superstar, will almost guarantee a labor problem with the next CBA negotiations , after 2026 season. The Players Union will be ROTFLTAO at the owners , as the labor dispute will be the Owners fighting , not the union vs the Owners. Dodgers will force a fight among the billionaires, especially if they win the 2026 WS. It is not guaranteed in any way though. Play the games and see. What it does mean for Boston though is that there is talent hidden in Dodger AA/AAA who have no chance of breaking into the LAD roster. If Craig is as smart as his degrees would imply, he will find a gem or two that Friedman would give up. Can anybody there play 2B ?
  22. To the extent that Masataka Yoshida is a one dimensional player , with no speed on the bases, isn't it close to time to just eat whatever is necessary of his $18MM and move on, opening up the OF and DH position for the guys already on roster. I doubt that will happen before the trade deadline , but surely by that date Masa will be moved, including DFA if he can't hit well enough to make himself attractive to a contending team. He's short and slow, can we try him at 2B, LOL
  23. For any talk of trading a pitcher capable of starting, note that in 2025 the Sox had NINE (9) pitchers who started FIVE (5) or more games, and another 4 who started 2 or more, including "openers" like Bernadino. Plus Crawford did not start any, so you could say we have 10 potential starters before the inevitable injuries occur, so I expect we will use all of the current mix before September 30. Keep'em, Craig Wouldn't object to a getting a skilled 2Bman , but why the heck do we carry guys who can't field adequately then ? Surely there is a player under Sox control that can field at the MLB level. Maybe they cannot hit, looking at you David Hamilton.
  24. That assumes he is physically able to play in September
  25. Signing Bregman for any 5 year deal would have been a mistake . Let him go to the NL and pull the next quad muscle for a 70 game hiatus. Repeating myself, but the instructions from JH to Craig Breslow, are no multi-year signings until the next CBA is completed sometime in mid 2027. It will be a lost season and Henry doesn't want to be on the hook for some lost money.
