  1. On Durbin's swing strike 3, not sure I have seen a MLB level hitter ever be that late
  2. I hit Painter well. Credit to Trevor for seeing a middle FB and whacking it. Story would help a lot by getting hot
  3. Sad that Gasper continues to hit balls to deep parts of the warning track. Poor Mickey. always swings well but 10' short of being a stud
  4. But doesn't Mayer have an injury/IL history? Oh wait. it's actually the other guy
  5. If I remember correctly,, in an admittedly SSS, Gasper went something like 0-20 last year before getting his first hit. A career OPS of .495 at 30 years old. No upside at all. Right now he is hitting the ball as well or better than most in that lineup. The simple fact that he is the Red Sox choice at DH tells the true story ( him again?) of a terribly failed off season where Breslow thought he would just get lucky on offense .
  6. Another opportunity to pound a pitcher with awful stats . What will the vaunted lineup do with Painter ? We do need to take small comfort in Bello's apparent refocus and ability to go longer. OTOH , he did give up the 1 run that mattered. Sox pitchers should snap towels at their position player brethren.
  7. Schwarber doesn't win it by himself, but he helped a lot. Why don't we have one of those?
  8. 3-17 when other team scores first A symptom of no evolved hitting skills
  9. Simply cannot hit. Breslow has a real problem besides himself. Lack of scoring at home is unreal.
  10. Anyone who thought Anthony would make a quick recovery is still mistaken. A finger ligament could take a month
  11. Yes, turns out to be an unproductive AB . Better than a DP though
  12. Warning track power. The cutting edge between victory and defeat
  13. At least this game is moving quickly and with virtually no LOBs, nor Boston runs. Bello is again actually pitching well and if he had support could make a winner out of this one. Fat chance
  14. 16 pitches to get 9 outs from the weak Sox ? That must be a new low, even for them. But hit into 2 DPs in 3 innings and you can save a lot of pitches. Durbin may be the weakest looking batter I have seen strike a fair ball in awhile
  15. What was the difference between Schwarb's and Mick's flyball to RF ? About 100' and 1 run scored
  16. Did not take long for Schwarber to stick the L-R thing to the Sox and Moran. Makes Mickey Gasper's task as our #2 a little tougher to beat
  17. Modern batting lineup theory states that the best hitter on your team should bat second. Whether that determination is based on power power, BA, OBP, OPS or War ratings , who knows ? But the fact that on Breslow's Red Sox this position is listed today as Mickey Gasper is a revelation. Gasper does have a bit of a hot bat, by Sox standards, right now and is only there because Contreras got hit in the hand doesn't diminish Mickey's ascent to baseball nirvana. I hope he hits 1 more HR tonight than does Schwarber.
  18. The fact that Bello needs an opener to address his 1st inning difficulties is a strong indicator that he is not capable of dealing with being a professional. To the extent that it works, so be it and congrats if we win. It does provide backing to the multi-year thought that Bello is not able to deal with adversity or pressure. Good luck to him and the team to get a win
  19. Early showed up on time and pitched his 7 inning shutout. Whit and Chappie sealed his win. Good game and win
  20. What do Story and Mayer see when a spinning ball comes toward the plate. A couple of weak ABs
  21. Or the FOs inability to judge young talent. Bres thought he was stealing one wth Durbin
