  1. Rafi and JD just confirmed the selection of the dink/dunk methodology today. Don't want to take away a save oppo for the BP
  2. Houston playing defense like some amateurs. Now capitalize on it with a bomb and send Verlander home to Ms. Upton
  3. Thanks for listening Beni---you are getting better by the minute
  4. Amazing what can happen when you put the ball in play. Now Beni needs to steal second. Beating Verlander... for now
  5. Happy to have Devers on this team, and happier to see JDM crank a 325' rope to left off Verlander who was teasing him outside.
  6. I know physical size doesn't mean anything in baseball, but our OF'ers ( not JDM) are no taller than 5'-10" and under 200. It will be no contest in a real brawl. I worry about these little guys.
  7. Beni picked up the run for which I am appreciative. But I just can't see myself ever being that young man's biggest fan. As Jung says, Beni has a good PR Dept.
  8. Sox making Verlander wqork a little, now up to Beni. Gulp
  9. As I tell my grandson, keep your head in the game and be baseball ready. Now Pearce is on third instead of being DP'ed by Bradley.
  10. Amen. The real key is, as you point out, the virtual same crew only 7 months agao was concluding a WS year with total domination against 3 very good teams. Was it a fluke ? No ! But now , after 52 games, and plenty of rest breaks, they don't execute fundamentals, day after day on a rotating basis around the lineup or on the mound. Yes, very frustrating and we will not tolerate this complacency much longer before we sue !!
  11. It is actually more a comment on Benintendi's incompetence with a bat in his hand. Pearce was not on the roster when they went 17-2, he came later. But you are right, Cora could restack this lineup from bottom to top and they would neither lose nor gain very much
  12. I do think they might benefit from a 10 day DL, as painful as that sounds. He is simply not near the hitter he has been up to a few weeks ago. I'm sure he's doing a ton of cage hitting as well, not helping things. The only thing WTF Cora needs to prepare for this year is the one game play-in.
  13. Chavis takes the 3-0 pitch, then swings at ball 4 , only to take a nice strike for the punchout. Verlander must laugh when a rookie comes up.
  14. How long do we have to wait for Cora to relent on making Betts leadoff, and dropping Beni at least to second , if not lower ? I look at the lineup and see the problem down the lineup card, Pearce , Nunez, and Bradley clogging the pipeline. The Sox cannot winn this year with those 3 in a row. Maybe Beni goes 7th and breaks up that string.
  15. No Arm Nunez and No catch Vazquez combine for allowing a run in the first, but it's still early. Correa came through with a CLUTCH hard hit ball
  16. D. O'Brien called Correa a CLUTCH hitter based on 8 walk-offs . So CLUTCH must exist.
  17. SS, it's not the 29th . But " Life is what happens while Cora is busy making other plans"
  18. It's one thing for a reliever (Barnes) to get beat by decent hitting, but a whole other when they simply cannot throw a strike to a general location as displayed by the catcher. When in doubt, make the hitter execute. You will still get beat on occasion but you won't beat yourself with a drawn in infield because your throwing is wild.
  19. From today's story on his return to Boston to see the medical staff, I now think we are right on the verge of the previously mentioned 60 day IL , right up to next season . Dustin will get paid, the roster slots and Red Sox minor league teams won't be holding anyone back. So this may be the ending, a quiet one with an announcement next Spring. Takes the Sox off the hook PR wise, and Pedey gave it his all as usual trying to comeback. I'm with Dewey about Machado needing to experience some discomfort . San Diego's only 70 miles to the South, so Guido and his kneeknocker may be heading that way.
  20. Apologies. I was out socializing and didn't see the game, so thought I would just make some stuff up. Watched the recap videos this morning and feel much better about our team's efforts. Just a frustrating season for all concerned, but you guys on this site keep it amusing and informative.
  21. For those who called a sweep vs the Astros or even a 2-1 outcome, you do not recognize what you are seeing day in-day out. The Sox are a disorganized hot mess right now with little direction or motivation. WTF Cora is flailing away trying to find the magic wand, but it's stuck in a dark place right now. JDM, the only serious hitter here, is broke-backed and incapable of delivering. Your Ace Chris Sale cannot win any game he enters, not all his fault. This is a 88 win team going down a drain that is sweeping them into the pits of baseball history. Oh yeah, to hell with all the NBA commentary, nobody gives a damn.
  22. You are correct. I was crying and sobbing so hard at the thought of losing any of these guys i forgot that Mookie would only become an FA after the 2020 season , but then I looked at the calendar and realized it would still be "next" year (2020), so it all made sense. Well, except for Porcello who needs to be resolved after this season, and JDM could pull out his option, although more likely look at that in 2020, unless his back is really bad in which case we will get to see his full contract. In any case, I don't expect to see JBJr in the long term future in Boston.
  23. Based on his first 43 G/163 PA's, resulting in a .531 OPS, he will need to OPS at about .870 for almost 2 months to reach OPS .700 by the A-s break. I really don't think his situation is resolvable until the Sox know where Betts lands and JDM's option choice is made. This tends to push Jackie to a non tender status if there is a chance he could get $10MM via arbitration. Maybe next year's super thread will be , "How did we lose Betts, Martinez, Porcello and Bradley" all at once ? The most productive time in terms of potential value might be to try and move him at the trade deadline to a wannabe contender who has an injured OF'er or needs defense in late innings.
  24. It's always good to have choices and a game plan with options . Based on both history and recent pitching, do you prefer to try Johnson mid season over going with Weber until he might flame out. Maybe it comes down to minor league options, but I would ride Weber as the #5 or spot starter until other teams catch up to his off speed approach with good movement. Last thought on Pedroia. The Sox will be paying him the next few years no matter if he can play or not. The current off season and rehab stints have not produced usable results. Why not send him away from pressing the issue, with the commitment to return next ST and see if the procedure done and effort to rehab can produce results after a long rest. If he then returns next ST and can play part time, let Pedey be a valuable bench guy in lieu of Nunez. I realize this is contrary to his laser show personality , but someone ( a Dr. or DD) needs to tell him to accept reality and make something of it.
  25. I'm confident of two things: 1. Dustin will never be back as a FT player, and not even a majority time player. 2. The Sox will let him wallow around in Portland/Pawtucket and any where else he wants to bring his gear. On the day Pedey says he's ready , then they will deal with it. He's out of sight and almost out of mind for the interim. There are other situations to solve first, like who to move for Holt and should we trade JBJr for a good #2 starting pitcher (sarcasm alert)
