    There should be a lot more controlled swings on 3-0 pitches in MLB. They are often cookies, but those that do swing are trying for the moon instead of a hit. If they are looking for a walk, you will have a better chance by showing the pitcher a swing on 3-0 than a take. he then knows he has to make a pitch, which he is generally incapable of doing

    I would think the standard tactic in an extra inning game with the runner on second setup is to intentionally walk the first hitter to establish the DP ( if not the TP) and go from there. It would increase your chances of getting the lead runner on a force at third.
