  1. I would offer Gardner an absurd contract just to keep him out of the league as the 26th man on the bench for a full season
  2. Cora managing very tight here, as he knows they need to win this one for a lot of reasons. How many recent games has Eovaldi pitched well but not been credited with the win. Maybe 2 or 3 in last few weeks? He did blow one 3-1 lead with a tying homer to his last batter.
  3. He would be comic relief for our bullpen
  4. I agree , although I can see the benefit of waiting on those two until they get through the top to middle of lineup in the 8th/9th in case of a rally or a major earthquake whichever comes first in Boston
  5. I enjoyed Ellis Burks as a player, but he is weak on commentary, all cliches
  6. perfect defensive positioning and excellent glove by Dalbec
  7. I know RECENCY plays a big part in perception of some players contributions. What have you done for me lately ?? But JD Martinez is getting wearisome with his warning track power and DP bouncers .
  8. Has anyone recently seen the "black" (outside edge") of the plate except on a worn down amateur field ?
  9. 4 years @ $65MM do the trick ??
  10. Eovaldi pitching a gem with 89 through 6. If Cora yanks him anywhere under 100 pitches for ANYONE in that bullpen, then Alex is the idiot. At least let Nate open the 7th and see if can get 1 or 2 quick outs
  11. The August slide was often presented as bad pitching, bullpen flops, sometimes defense, but if I had time to study it, I think the lack of hitting in close games is at least an equal culprit.
  12. Here's the issue with strikeouts, it takes a lot of pitches compare to easy bouncers to second baseman. Nate has K'ed 7 of 15 hitters for 80 pitches through 5. He likely hits 100 after 6 opening the dungeon door of the draggin' bullpen.
  13. Nice f*** up , fan. You can buy an official AL ball for about $15, probably less across the street . Not sure Santana could have reached that but it would have been nice to see. f***ing grinning idiot
  14. And the Rays either dribble crappy hits down towards third base line or over the Monster on the fly last noight
  15. For a contender/pretender, it's not an intimidating lineup, and they perform like it
  16. Getting weary of Burks and OB telling us that certain fly balls would be HRs in any park except Fenway. Jerks, what park do you think is home field and that they are playing in . As one person said, what difference does it make now, he's out.
  17. Damn, that is the spot JDM needed to pick up this team but deep warning track power doesn't get it in RCF Fenway
  18. That was not a great jump, Burks, it was a weak throw by Plawecki
  19. Back to the topic of the thread , I believe a team has to have a lead for there to be a closing situation , so the choice of said closer is dependent on overall defense, timely hitting ("bunching"), and effective starting pitching. Call me when those characteristics show up in a TB Rays vs Red Sox game for the Boston side.
  20. The problem is that your observation is not as ironic as it seems. Bloom may like his upside
  21. McClanahan vs Eovaldi. Evenly matched statistically with Mc at 9-5 , 3.76 ERA and Nate 10-8, 3.73 . Will the Sox continue on a slide or wake up and join the W column ??
  22. Hess auditioning to take Valdez's place on 2022 roster
