Not that it is the prime concern after 6 games, but in the first week , Sox are 4 games out behind Bloom's real team. Cora said a fast start (4-2 would have been ok) was necessary. Unfortunately, Bloom let the Rays bug our clubhouse and acted on it.
I think he needs to be refocused on the slash type line drive swing he showed in the WBC . He makes contact but it has been topped grounders after the first couple games, and no slices off towards the wall.
He's trying to hit GS's with one on.
Ground ball DP . If observers do not see the uppercut swing to top the ball on his last several AB's , except when he K's . He may do well later after he sees a lot more pitching, but his current flaw is in his swing
A nice defensive play to get out of a tough situation. Pirate runners did not help themselves . Started with fielding by Kelly and correct first move to get the ball to McGuire
This team needs luck such as McGuire's foul ball ruled fair, then foul ( then K'ed on a marginal pitch). They don't have lot more going for them right now
Schrieber gets all messed up with 2 weak rollers, a possible bad ball track by Yoshida, a bunt for a run, then a walk. Guys you are on the edge of a Pirate sweep because you aren't hitting
Finally get a really good effort from our starter Kluber but gets no hitting support and can't be the winner, in the rare event of a Sox comeback. Chang is lost as is Wong at bat. The fearsome foursome , who were hitting a cumulative .368 a couple innings ago are now at .342
Sox batters in a hurry to catch that flight to Detroit.
Fast game happening . Hope it ends 1-0 for the Sox to put pressure on Splinter's O/U bet at 1.5 such games for the season
Whoa, more like 1-0 Pittsburgh on a Pesky shot
Second tour of the rotation starts after a weak first round. It will take all 5 guys to give it a second go to see who was simply cold the first time and who can adjust their game. The 2-3 record, and possible Pittsburgh sweep at Fenway looms large over Kluber's shoulder.
Time to win one
Tonight batting positions 1-4 have gone 2 for 11; 5-9 are 2 for 14, with McGuire having both hits. Arroyo needs to knock him in to make the 7th inning worthwhile
Have to capitalize on that error , Duvall, just like vs the O's,
Can't pull the trigger on 3-2 ? Another guy who got lucky early and will ride that for the season.
So through the first 5 starters for Boston only Tanner Houck gets a win. And the team is on a teeter totter between 2-3 and 3-2 in their first set of home games. Another come from behind effort needed , along with a shutdown BP session. Winck got that one done very nicely
At 85 pitches , 2 HRs, and several hard OF shots , plus 2 out walks, I think Mr. Pivetta should be done. If he does come back for the 6th, then very short leash , one baserunner and he should be done
