6 Ks tonight out of 7 official ABs ( 1 BB) from our 6-9 studs, whose combined BA's total .419. This is no sarcasm, just harsh reality. I can see Bloom's analytic staff poring over these incredible numbers and trying to find the trend line
Guess we showed Hunter who is boss . Bloom was mentally applauding his decision to go with Tapia as a non roster invitee who proved out better than anyone he had named Duran in ST
Houck goes 4 innings, leaving the 6 non closers in the BP with another long relief job. How long will this group of otherwise undistinguished arms be able to go night after night as the totally unready for prime time starters go 4-5 innings.
Thanks for the info. Regrettably it is an AB so his legit OBP declines to 1 base for 15 ABs, which our advanced analytics guys will tell us is .066 , mimicing his OPS
With a LH pitcher at Fenway, I would have expected that in the choice between Casas and Dalbec, Bobby would be playing first tonight. But Cora knows stuff we don't
The only difference between Casas's first and second At Bats is that he swung ( missed) at strike 3. Otherwise the pattern was exactly as written previously. The book is out on our big boy, he will take strike 1 and scuffle from there. The real mistake was fouling off a 92mph 4 seam in the center block of the zone.
Ironic that with a lineup featuring 6 guys hitting in the mid-low 100's or .000 , we have 2 guys on the bench, Tapia and McGuire, hitting well over .300. Probably why I'm not managing this bunch.
As you have mentioned elsewhere, they now need to take it the whole way to the Cup or who is going to care. Lots of pressure there, and they need to be confident that Ullmark's leg is ok.
Does anyone recall what Kenley Jansen actually looks like on a mound. I know he has been in 3 of 13 games so far, and tonight doesn't look good yet either for a save. Maybe we are saving him for that desperate 10 games out of WC 3 run in August/Sept.
You may not be able to win the pennant in April, but you can sure set the stage for losing it . Realistically this team could look far different in June/July with Story and Duvall back, maybe Paxton, Bello etc on the mound. Wishful thinking
Dugo meanwhile is contributing nicely with his bat and helping the leadoff position OBP. I truly hope Alex makes a big year of it for himself and the Sox.
Houck's 62 pitch count after 3 would indicate another bullpen session no later than the start of the 6th. Maybe the batters can get a couple runs to make it interesting.
Ironic tha Houck's 2 walks are Ohtani and Trout. Just trying to keep the ball in the yard. Not a bad idea, but watch out for Renfroe
Got one back with a K on Ohtani in the 3rd on a sinker.
