  1. Max, I rarely know when you are serious and I am sure vice versa . To be clear, Wong having to catch at the MLB level for a week straight is a challenge and very wearying . Everything from his hand to his legs have got to be aching . Swinging the bat requires quick twitch muscle reaction which is absent when muscles are tired, not to mention the build-up of lactic acid. So let's value Wong for his catching, strong arm throws to 2B, and baserunning speed . A throw-in of sorts in the infamous Mookie trade, Connor has become a valid fix at a key position in Bloom's evolving , younger, cost efficient roster construction. I think we are ahead of the game vs if they had kept Vazquez. Get a win today, thereby take the series and look for a sweep tomorrow with Connor Wong resting on his....laurels
  2. Near Ace James Paxton vs washed up hack Lance Lynn . Should be a hit fest for Boston after the 17K's last night in a WIN, featuring two plays that made up the offense ( Hamilton/Devers), and great pitching by Bello and Pivetta/Martin/Jansen. The real question of the game is whether Connor Wong going 7 games straight can survive this level of physical abuse ? Has any Boston catcher ever had to match the challenge of a straight week's worth of catching ? Anyway, hats off to Connor for stepping into the breach and handling the chore, even if he K's every time at bat , like Duvall and almost Arroyo. Duvall has no excuse . Hitting , like pitching, is as much legs as arms, and I am sure Wong's thighs and knees are very fatigued at this point. Sunday will be his biblical day of rest .
  3. BTW, Elvis andrus does not appear to be the guy we should have chased as a temp hire SS
  4. This one will be a steal if Kenley closes it right now. 17K's ?? 1 big swing from Devers and a crazy walk-steal error-2 base hot run wins a game.
  5. They talk about you a lot. Youk especially says he gets most of his insights from Talksox
  6. Hamilton so far ( very SSS) has shown a plate discipline more like Tristan Casas not chasing some tough pitches. Sure hope he is a player because I would rather have the speed and discipline as a bench resource than some of the yahoos who wore the uni this year.
  7. You were right from the get-go. Odd night for Duran and Casas to sit . So good to see Devers pick this group up . Bello is not sharp but like successful pitchers, he is avoiding the blow up. If needed the BP should be in ok shape
  8. Devers does come alive and caught the slider on the fat part of his bat. Nice timing, after the error
  9. Given Devers permanency now and maybe Story , if guys like Hamilton, Duran, Casas , and Dugo fulfilled their potential , along with Bello, this team could be set for the next 5 years. Lots of ifs, but nice to speculate on what could be .
  10. Hamilton for all time walk production into a run
  11. Yes, I noticed the other guys bringing back shades of JDM, and wondered how much tiredness was affecting Connor. Having said that, his chasing was particularly egregious and uncalled for. ( sarcasm)
  12. The wily, esoteric thinking of Alex Cora.
  13. i agree, let him show something, not so much for the Sox but for his value ( if any). Meanwhile Wong is clueless on a good slider.
  14. No joke, I see Dalbec taking groundballs with a fielder's glove at SS in the pregame. Just be ready Bobby, things are happening. You are being showcased for trade bait.
  15. But no Duran nor Casas against a RH'er? Duran was 0-9 with 5 K's after his 3 for 3 double binge. vs Minn. Casas went 3 for 13 overall vs Twins. Must be a scheduled day off.
  16. So , after much discussion on Talksox, the great Bobby Dalbec is returned to the greener grass of MLB. Reyes goes on 10 day IL, probably making our own Kike the semi-perm Ss for the next week. Dalbec can PH for him when needed , and go in the SS slot, lol. Walter served his purpose so it's back to WooSox for him. Chris Murphy returns, and Tayler Scott becomes Walter's seat companion on the trip east. In all seriousness the major and minor injury ( & bereavement ) bug has caught the Sox in a tough situation presently. Need to scavenge some wins this weekend . The Marlins, Blue Jays and Rangers await for 9 games after the Chicago series. The former 3 teams are a combined 34 games over .500 before today's action.
  17. If only John Henry would use a few million of his Benjamins, frankly the Sox would be better
  18. Taking the layup win here with Brayan Bello about to shutdown the White Sox, restarting the winning of games and series. OTOH, Lucas Giolito is no pushover at 5-4 / 3.24/ 1.24 WHIP, on a losing team 32-34 in a loser's division After getting their bats shattered yesterday, time to heat up the offense, missing the Verdugo sparkplug , and trying to get Rafael Devers on track.
  19. He gets his hit !! Congrats. Now steal it around and mess up the shutout
  20. He may have to figure out how to steal first.
  21. Nothing happening yet for the Sox but just wait until next inning when Joe Ryan has to go through our lineup the 3rd time. Fireworks !!!
  22. I like your take on this situation. The Red Sox are unpredictable if anything. The current roster instability due to injuries is problematic. Devers ongoing slump is problematic. Sale is problematic . Meanwhile, Cora works with what Bloom gives him. What is ironic is that this particular game is still winnable based on the Sox tendency to come alive in late innings after showing nothing earlier.
  23. Turner messes up the only reason to watch this game
  24. This is not kind, but after several shots of the Walter family in the stands, I'm guessing Brandon was adopted . That's how bad this game is so far.
  25. This would be a good day for the Sox to give Joe Ryan the distinction of a perfect game . Already 1/3rd of the way there. Sox batters/fielders are lifeless and Walter is checking his cap to see if his return ticket to Worcester is still valid
