  1. Based on the stats shown for Paxton's start tonight, he is far from ready. 82 pitches/42 strikes , 4 runs in 4 innings or was it 5 runs ? He's not ready for prime time and Sox don't need him right now, make him work for it.
  2. In a Stephen King novel----The Disappearing Check Casher
  3. The injury bug has started early this year, mostly because, it's still early. Losing a starting outfielder ( Duvall), a utility/starter IF who stabilized SS ( Chang) , a reliever (Kelly) is not inconsequential . Story, Paxton, Joely Rodriguez, Mondesi still not ready . So what is different.... it appears there really is some depth now in the organization....Bloom is vindicated
  4. Tonight's breakout ( so far) is what makes losses like yesterday all the more miserable. Coulda, woulda, shoulda swept the Orioles in a statement series. Do we still have to play tomorrow's game?
  5. Seer what happens when the bottom half of the lineup can hit the ball. Duran is making it happen big time with the GS
  6. Be beneficial for the hitters to work over Bradish with another 40 pitches and 3 more runs. ASs we saw yesterday , the game doesn't end in the 4th/5th inning
  7. McGuire doesn't do much except hit . Maybe he is a DH Kluber in trouble , up 3 runs , been talking to Sale.
  8. Yoshi jumping the first pitch after 2 straight walks and tops a high ball into a DP. Not sure what he is thinking there, but it was in Japanese and I don't get it
  9. To anyone not named Chang, the worst consequence of Chang's injury is the return of Arroyo to front line status. As mentioned, Chang had at least settled down the SS hole defensively. It also keeps Kike on the field.
  10. Batting Average Balls in Play are a contributing factor to Fielding Independent Pitching . FIP doesn't influence BABIP because BABIP is simply a factual statement. Of course Batting Average has its own considerable statistical problems
  11. So Max says someone must fall on the grenade that is Corey Kluber and start this thread, fully realizing there will be no tomorrow for said volunteer. Kluber has so far accounted for the L in 33% of Sox losses, chalking up a sterling 8.50 ERA in 18 innings over 4 starts, WHIP'ing opponents to a 1.50 tune. Corey has given up 19 hits in the 18 innings, 6 of which are HR's . Kyle Brandish is a 26 year old , with only 2 starts, and 7.2 innings accumulated in those (8Ks/2BB) . So how effective has this semi-starter been ? Try a 0.0000000 ERA and 1.04 WHIP Like Max says, this one is a mission deep into enemy territory with little hope for survival . Let's hope our batters swing their weapons and that Bumpires do not determine the outcomes.
  12. Bloom was officially quoted by Speier , "It's still very early " Everyday I learn more and more about baseball from the insightful wisdom of its highly compensated geniuses. One question, do these games not count ?
  13. probably the 3rd or 4th this year
  14. Sale definitely lost that one . Then the hitters disappeared. It may just be a .500 team teasing us nightly
  15. Kike was not and still is not my fav Sox. Oh , and never will be
  16. Maybe Steven G. Wonder and his brother R.C. Charles
  17. Yoshida's patience is superb when he knows the ump is expanding the zone
  18. Dugo playing a big league RF. Got to pull it out for him
  19. On the way to dropping a game wherein the Sox turned 4 DPs. Only possible when your pitching is putting them on regularly
  20. 8th inning, last chance for the hitters to cycle through , if it goes to the 9th we'll be in trouble in the lower part of the lineup.
  21. Great play by the 2nd base ump to set up the DP
  22. Seems like the bats went quiet after the 3rd, so a quick look at the box score reveals that the bottom 5 hitters only have 1 hit tonight amongst them, albeit Casa's HR. When the bottom half doesn't contribute much , it becomes a long night
  23. It was a decent gamble but it turned Turner turtle. A perfect throw from about 100' away
  24. Damn Turner running into outs
  25. The correct number through 4 innings is ZERO . Had he a pitch to K McCann , Sox would still lead
