Very winnable game which is slipping away. Gore pitched well enough, but his season numbers indicated that a good hitting team would have got to him. The inconsistency continues.

I know Devers is a renowned bad ball hitter , but he carries it to extremes and makes outs without giving himself the best opportunity.

On Playoff chances, It looks like the Rays and Astros are currently good to go, plus one of the Mariners, Red Sox and Blue Jays in AL. The Sox season can swing on what happens in the 7 games with the Astros , the 5 with the Rays, and 3 in Toronto yet to play. Fortunately we also get 7 shots at the Yankees . The chase with Blue Jays is as follows: The Jays at 119 games have two fewer losses . Assuming wins for them, they should be considered 4 up on the 42 games left Red Sox. If the Sox play at a .600 clip that would produce 25 wins . If Toronto goes .500 over their last 44 , BJ's will finish at 89 wins . Given my scenario , the Sox will have 88 wins and miss the PO's. So everytime you see a 2 out walk, poor AB, idiotic baserunning, or defensive misplay realize just how tight the Sox prospects actually are. Of course, this doesn't take into account collapses or extended runs by similar teams.

Regarding losing Duvall and Turner, which well may happen, I think this group does need at least 1 or 2 mature , professional hitters, like Turner, to balance the roster of streaky youngsters, including Devers. I hope Turner stays for next year though he could move on for a 2 year deal. It's also time to drop Dalbec from the list of possibilities. He may have had a great year at WooSox but the lack of serious interest by any other team tells a lot . Overage/Underperformed, time to drop off the 40 post season or sooner. Nice guy, maybe he can coach 1B.

Febles did not make the trip to DC, so Goodwin moved over to 3rd base. The Sox hired a guy pregame from Section 111 to cover 1st for them, on the premise, what could go wrong? Not sure his name

I understand McGuire catching tonight as a LH hitter vs Gray, but Wong has sat out, except PH, for multiple games. Is he injured or just being ( necessarily) rested?

At this point what is the use of even thinking about Mondesi ? A bad idea ( signing known injured players) made worse by a too late to the party dude. With 44 to go and a solid roster finally in place, Mondesi can go for a swim in the Charles.

The 13 after the Nats will be successful if the Sox go 7-6. Need a good game out of Pivetta to set up the Nat sweep possibility. Also the bats need to stay alive as on Sunday.
