  1. Yes, it is amazing what a turned DP can do for a pitcher.
  2. Now at 77 through 4, looks like a another 5 inning start job, unless AC let's begin the 6th and see how far he can go. And this against a lineup that is not playoff caliber.
  3. Is anyone else less than impressed with Bello , as a prospect for the #1 pitching slot in the Sox future. Maybe the heat of summer , when it happens, will perk him up, but I think he's a middle rotation prospect/suspect. Guaranteed to be around for awhile , so I hope he can get more dominating
  4. When Dalbec walked, did he have to introduce himself to the 1B coach ? When Yoshide half swung into into a foul pop out, did he have thoughts of the Bullet train passing by Fujiyama?
  5. Just glad you stepped in with a worthy relief effort. It's tough because you never know if you're going to step on the toes of those much sharper about baseball than us.
  6. O'Neill is a power hitter for sure . Pretty good OPS at 1.209. Yet many on the board are waiting for the injury bug to strike. Hope it misses Tyler O.
  7. For Gojohn99 to start a thread 4/13, get a win ,breaking the streak of 4 losses, and then not start the new thread, a no show in the clubhouse, is a major jinx. You simply have to know the responsibilities, the mojo after a win, and the schedule/time to be a Talksox game thread starter . A major error, reminiscent of some recent play but not yesterday's fine win.
  8. Is Valdez available with his contused hand/thumb? I only want to know , so i can keep the clicker handy in case he comes in. Actually like the guy, just not as a ballplayer
  9. I think both reality and the situation requires patience through April/May to see if Devers shoulder, Pivetta's flexor, Romy's wrist and any other situation arises, with one exception. I would shop MLB, even MiLB, very hard right now for a serviceable SS , probably a utility IF'er on a good team. Payroll should not be an issue, and if JH made it one, shame on him. As Moon says, there will be some out there. DFA Hamilton as needed. Reassess by July 1 and definitely offer up the 1 year guys and try to get a MiLB player or two who is maturing a little to spend August/September as a platoon or direct fill-in for the experience and next year(s) roster. 1 pitcher and a super utility guy who can cover 3 IF positions. Is Brock Holt's son old enough yet, or Pedey's ?
  10. The real key will be to win the series with another good effort tomorrow. Get something going before the Guardians arrive .
  11. Tricky how Hamilton, Reyes and Valdez keep working themselves into the games despite what Cora tries to do to separate them. And they are blocking Devers and Grissom from coming back, or not.
  12. But would you take the MLB minimum ? My suggestion, keep holding out for more like you have for the last 50 years. Free advice, worked for me.
  13. Valdez picked off, then rolled into a pancake, injuring his wrist. Next man up. As long as I'm at it, when Devers reaches his 10th day off, would the Sox have been better just calling it an IL stint? Oh yeah, there's no one to call up.
  14. The full pension vesting takes 10 years of MLB activity. Bobby has 5, but with way more than 43 days of cumulative roster time, he is qualified for a partial pension, and it's getting bigger every day he stays
  15. Angels are showing today what happens when you don't make plays, allow extended innings, unforced errors, etc. Result is a 7-2 Sox lead
  16. The Sox have too many of the same stories to pick on the Angels there. Anaheim is a good ballpark to watch a game, not a bad seat anywhere, plenty of vacant ones after the first home series, reasonable concessions by MLB pricing standards
  17. Criswell looks a filler-in , not a real talent. He will have trouble getting through the 4th, but appreciate him making the trip timely and showing up.
  18. Abreu could become a bright spot if he can keep hitting. Amazing how more effective Yoshi is when he hits like I tell him to. Slash to left field. Now you normally don't look for your DH to be a singles hitter at $18Mill. but at least he is on base and picked up a rbi.
  19. There actually are a lot of comparisons, especially after Ohtani's move up to the MLB with Dodgers Both teams are deficient in many ways, but getting younger, and cheaper. Headlined by one major star, although Detmers gives them an edge on the mound.
  20. Didn't ask about Shohei's gambling interpreter.
  21. The fanatics have absorbed the great start , and seen the weak homestand , already on a nasty slide. Just picture that in an alternate universe , You have been given Breslow's job and as long as you stay under the lux tax, you literally have free rein to straighten the ship early. Granted no other team is looking to make serious moves yet, but what would you do to change this trajectory ? You have lost Giolito, and Story. Pivetta is a question mark. Devers is iffy . Casas hasn't progressed much , if any. Yoshida is problematic as a very limited fielder, singles hitting DH. Your closer is a weird guy who can't throw strikes, consequently gives up no hits, except to the payroll. The three amigos ( Valdez, Hamilton, Reyes ) have butchered many plays in the field and combined are hitting only about .200 OPS better than O'Neill by himself. Gonzalez maybe could play but is injured himself for an indeterminate period. The starters have been very good, but short, so the bullpen which was good in the first 10 is now showing some wear and tear already. Honestly, what would you do right now, including maintain status quo ?? Credit I think to Nick for already addressing this, but thought it could use its own thread, with all the good baseball people on Talksox. Better than bitching about the 2024 team with no offered solutions.
  22. So is Christmas, 255+- days away. The team does expect him to use all 20 allowed rehab days ( started yesterday ?), so maybe by May 7 ?? Good luck Vaughn. The Nation awaits.
  23. You forgot Valdez on the bench ready to fill in as a defensive replacement in late innings
  24. Any citation on the rumors because I would tend to think it may be true ?
  25. There's fielding of routine plays which anyone migrating through the HS, College and especially MiLB ranks performs to 95%++ accuracy, some even better with range and good arms. The idiots I see in the Sox current infield /bench are not performing the most basic fundamental plays, like a DP.. Watching the Angels tonight showed what is possible on DP balls. Trust me the Angels will not be a playoff team and have no stars beyond lonely Trout. But their SS (Neto) and 1Bman (Schanuel) , second year man brought up at 20 and pure rookie made plays. They also seem to have a #1 of sorts in Detmers. I see nothing close on the Red Sox.
