  1. Jansen gets away with murder, picking on a young rookie. He has no command and little control. look at his pitch counts this season. Kenley who skipped most of ST work to lighten the load on his substantial backside really isn't season ready. truly hoping some desparate GM needing a reliever in late July buys Kenley's deal.
  2. Helluva blast by Wong . Only difference to the O's shot was nobody on base, a frequent situation.
  3. Just a light tickle and you will start the bleeding..... A rotten roster after the presumed 9, but Grissom fails to show, Story goes down, Devers needs to be on the 10 day IL, , Giolitos out, . Then there is no skilled depth. Tell me that Breslow and crew could not find a utility infielder better than the 3 amigos.
  4. Joely had actually pitched an excellent 5 out inning throwing lots of strikes. Weissert f***s them over once again on one pitch. Bullpen Roulette and AC blew it.
  5. Honestly, you could take Hamilton, Reyes and Valdez package them up and you would get literally nothing from nobody. The Woosox need to give their boys aging creme.
  6. Hamilton butchered the DP. See if they call it. Surprising review but I'll take it.
  7. Valdez's bat is leaving something to be desired, mostly a base hit. 3 guys in the lineup tonight hitting below .190 , although Abreu got himself to .190 with 2 for 3 so far. 4 players with OPS below .600 led by Yoshi at .592 Valdez and Reyes in a race to the bottom at .335 and .340 respectively, both of which are below TSW's lifetime BA.
  8. Let's see what Bullpen Roulette has in store for Cora tonight. Given the O's LH hitters, maybe a dose of Joely and Brennan B.
  9. Sox pitchers don't generally have a put away pitch to shut down hitters especially at 3-2 counts. Rutschman hit about 5 foul balls at 3-2 before lining out to center on a fairly hard hit ball. Whitlock does continue the 5 inning starts but with good results, 1 solo bomb, . The burning of the BP is a common lament from 2023 but it is all we are seeing in 2024. One reason, there is no #1 to just take the ball every 5 days expecting to get 7+ innings. If that is true across all MLB, then BP pitchers will be in great demand.
  10. Yeah, I missed top 1 , didn't check in.
  11. One of the keys to Devers would be to surround him with the good defense SS, like Story was and at least 2, if not 3, other good bats in the lineup. Maybe Casas is one, maybe Duran could be a leadoff guy for a few years, maybe Ortiz could come out of retirement.
  12. May have been an AI job
  13. Brilliant typing job, but you might feel bad if someone here followed through on the suggestion.
  14. First inning by Whitlock is interesting. Cold , damp night, tough on any pitcher. But the difference in this game is about 12". The difference between a 3 run HR and a foul, followed by a K to preserve the shutout. Whitlock has set up anpther BP noight with 30 pitches in the 1st. Maybe he can get better
  15. You have got to be kidding, but I know you're not. You are usually serious
  16. That was one of O'B's stupidest , just like the Would have been a HR in 10 parks.
  17. look what "All gas, No brakes" did for the NY Jets . I think one of Capt. Smith's guys on the Titantic bridge, full throttle , no, no full stop. Just stopping for ice, folks
  18. May as well raise this old warhorse--- Wins in April = wins Sept 25-30th. If we think this could be a backdoor playoff team, you have to win games like last night or either of the 1`-0 losses. The mood is set when you see an excellent win opportunity blow up like a kid's birthday balloon against a team that you would like to compete with. Otherwise , just watch and say, Oh well. I don't think fans in general or even this site are sad at a loss as much as the process of the loss, but actually are MAD at the organization for putting a weak roster out there in a difficult division. Especially after the one idiot owner says" Full throttle" , then has to walk it back like some of our politicos.
  19. Wait, If they bat around in the first, it means that Reyes probably made the last out. Who were the other 2 ? I know: Hamilton and Valdez. All I know is where the hell is Romy , and Devers better be hurting to take this one off . Platoon your $300 million $$ man? Wong, take a seat, you're slipping on defense.
  20. Do box scores tell the story ?
  21. Pretty clear by Breslow's own words that the brakes are on for further extensions this year. The ownership/FO needs to ascertain the trends at the ticket office, NESN ratings and BTW w's-L's before going deep on the rest of the younger guys. As opposed to extensions, will anyone on this team get dumped at the trade deadline to clear the books a little more ? Looking at you, over 30s
  22. The unconditional love for Missin' Grissom continues to flow like the proverbial fountain of youth for a phuquer who cannot get on the field. I hope he is great and I am not knocking his POTENTIAL but until he shows up he is useless.
  23. Did a lot of figuring and can only conclude that you are correct. We know that Yoshida was not totally overmatched in the first half last year, including a bit of power. But he also went through many stretches of the topped, soft groundball to the right side , especially in the second half. The problem, imo, is that he either doesn't know how or refuses to adapt to the pitching or his swing path. Duran is hitting over .300 because he is going to left field a lot, which includes ground ball through the over-shifted infielders. I'm sure the coaches are talking to him, but how much does he or his interpreter get and understand. The DH role may not suit him at all mentally, and given his culture. The placement there may have been a huge disrespect/insult/loss of face which Japanese give much weight to.
  24. Max is correct. Boston starters , on a team that is 7-5, have pitched about 67 innings out of 108 so far, 62%. The starters are carrying the typical 2020's MLB expectations of starting pitchers. The joke is contained in another post by Max, showing a $14 miilion payroll for these hurling geniuses ( prior to Bello's extension) . f*** JH and all that ride with him
  25. The fact that the Union Oyster House does not serve sushi
