  1. His or Breslow's choice may have been to call up Criswell for that game and send Keller back earlier. But I guess you can rehash at least 60 games you are guaranteed to lose every year. The BP'ers did win the game but possibly at the expense of this one, so who gained ?
  2. Duran shows why players should run all hit balls out, and Hamilton makes them pay.
  3. Note the snake bite warning !. At least this series should break the sweep streak. Why did you let Campbell come in ? That's why I say for Cora, it's Bullpen Roulette.
  4. 2 on base, Sox get a K and a foulout . Don't overlook that despite the recent success, this team is playing with at least 4 guys in the lineup nightly who were not part of the plans to win this year. The BP's best pitcher other than Jansen was in the Mexican League last year before being found
  5. You are correct on that one. Fun talking s*** about WCards and playoffs when you have 4 starters and some marginal guys in the infield
  6. Thankful that Isaiah Campbell was available to come back and really help the BP situation.
  7. Let him try to get the Jays out until he has a baserunner, unless by error. Reese McGuire getting closer to his "Use by date" at the bat and catching
  8. Abreu is displaying some of the difficulty in coming back off IL to catch up to good pitching. It takes more than a few games. Concerned about Casas when he does get back whether he will be able to get right with the bat or will he favor his rib soreness.
  9. Houck is giving up some shots tonight. Good thing he has a guy playing CF very well now. Needs to dodge the Turner bullet to hold the lead.
  10. Devers does deliver a gut busting key , 2 run HR. Hit it so hard that the recoil almost knocked him down. Important hit to support Houck's pitching.
  11. Turner turns 0-2 into a 3-2 rbi single when Houck gets too loose. Sox yet to buy a hit
  12. Certainly agree on Anderson, plus you get another year from his contract. Who gets demoted in favor of DeJong---probably Gonzalez, Hamilton goes to 2B ? When Grissom is finally ready , I will be sorely disappointed if they do not give him a 30 day stint at Worcester while the current squad gets us to late July and through the deadline activity, if any.
  13. No thanks on Drury. Just more of what we have had too much of, injury prone and no bat this year. Plus I would have to tag him Dreary Drury killing the buzz on him.
  14. Is there any concensus that the Blue Jays will probably pack it in by trade deadline and retool for next year ? They got swept by us, then the Guardians this weekend. Nothing good going on in Toronto. Need to watch out for the low ankle snakebite in this 3 game series.
  15. The stupid owner , Arte Moreno, told the GM, Perry Minasian, to keep Shohei through '23 because he would repay the loyalty with a below market contract going forward. He signed Josh Hamilton and Anthony Rendon. You could sell these guys most anything
  16. Send the LAA 2 pitchers and Yoshida, and you might get Anderson. Criswell, Winckowski and Yoshi, oh yeah, plus about $25 million. Moreno will slobber over the money
  17. The goal for both buying and selling would be to improve the chances at making the playoffs AND dealing with our depreciating assets ( expiring contracts who will not be resigned) , possibly clearing up a few positional logjams, like OF/DH . Unlikely to happen because of too many variables but I could see Breslow actually reshape this team significantly by the deadline . The key being, can he replace Pivetta with an equal, but more years of control. Can he move Yoshida at any cost? Is Casas likely to recover, stay well and pick up his stroke again quickly? Jansen and Martin , tough choices, but can I get a starting 2Bman , so I can keep Grissom at Worcester for rest of 2024 ? With Reyes gone, who is at 3B if Devers gets injured ? Don't say Dalbec, please. The BP has performed well but going to the stretch run, are Anderson, Campbell, Booser, Keller ( some now shuttling to WooSox) ready for Primetime ? Are Valdez, Hamilton, Heineman, Westbrook, Gonzalez, Dom Smith, even McGuire and Grissom all part of your 2025 plans. They are on your 40 man now. The point being, there are lots of moving parts
  18. In regards to Bellhorn's and Moon's comments above , the Angel's would actually be a perfect dumping ground for Yoshi and they desperately need pitching, so Winckowski who was once good enough for the Red Sox would actually help the Angels. They do not have a decent DH on that team The ttrick is who to ask for or accept in a trade. Ask for Tyler Anderson LHP'er, maybe Jose Marte reliever, Ben Joyce 23 yr old RH'er, Roansy Contreras 24 RH'er. I do not know their MiLB system players but there is virtually no one on the MLB player position roster who would be an upgrade to the 2024 Red Sox. Mike Trout may be a little rich for JH, and he doesn't play a lot.
  19. Duran has been a great example for the other young guys now on the 26 , showing how you can up your game, and eventually get to a payday. Jarren took a bad situation and attitude in his initial promotion to the Red Sox but fully turned that around He became a slash hitter , not too many bouncers to 2Bman. Are you with us, Yoshi ? Final thought on Yoshi, it is not his fault that Bloom went out of character and overpaid for a limited portfolio player . It is hard to see how Yoshida would be very comfortable on a team without a fellow countryman , playing at a level he may not have considered while in Japan. Take the money Yoshi, it's all yours.
  20. This one is a true dilemma. On the surface , Cora has committed the DH slot to him which may be a showcasing technique. However, Yoshi is not performing like a showcaser. I think his thumb injury will be chronic for this year and is affecting his hitting. The contract is a sunk cost and the Sox may wind up eating a lot of sushi . I think they will carry him through the season and into the offseason, see if his thumb fully heals . A light hitting, slow running DH only is a liability not an asset. Most likely he is back at ST and they will see if he can hit or not.
  21. Another series win over a team that the Sox should beat . Used up a lot of BP going into next week. . All the buy-sell talk will have to wait. This group is on a nice roll that needs to run deep into July to confirm if we need/want help or could they benefit by moving 1 or 2 and gaining different skills. Good Game, Red Sox !
  22. Keller doing his best to get Cincinnati back in the game, now 7-4 . It just supports my personal opinion that relievers who reach a pitch count over 20 tend to become very vulnerable. Keller had 2 outs at 20 pitches, thenm proceeded to give up more hits and 2 more runs beyond the earlier one he surrendered. The HBP didn't help. Took 31 pitches to get 3 outs
  23. Refsnyder turns a close game into a small laugher with a nice shot into the seats, scoring Duran, who in turn score Rafaela. Now the BP guys just need to finish it.
  24. Devers is in a slump. Needs a day or two off while Duran is carrying the team. Look at Raffy's last 15 games stats .
  25. Switching back and forth with the CWS seeing the ump cam. Obviously affected by the lens shape but the plate looks tiny . The real issue with correctly calling balls/strikes is the vertical axis because you have to first see if the ball crosses any part of the plate but simultaneously judge if it is vertically in the hitters unique strike zone. The rationale for Robo-ump isn't the mistakes made by the ChUmps but the real difficulty in seeing a 90mph+ small ball in a 3 dimensional format in a literal split second.
