  1. Ok, but I've literally posted a three team trade scenario where Duran is going to Cleveland or Philly. and yes, as I and others have continuously stated here if you believe you can extend him then yes you do that trade over and over again. Skubal is the best pitcher on planet earth it really isn't very hard here to justify trading for him. Whether or not it's realistic is irrelevant. This is a fan forum and there's speculation that he's on the trade market, and a lot of these rumors have come out of DETROIT. Why wouldn't anyone want to kick the tires on that?
  2. Baseballtravevalue rates this trade as a fair trade. Red Sox get: Braden Montgomery/Kyle Teel/Chase Meidroth/WIkleman Gonzalez White Sox Get: Garrett Crochet 😎
  3. Depends on what your criteria is. Are you saying that teams don't trade for players and players do not immediately sign an extension? because by that definition the Sox didn't trade for Crochet and then extend him but they did shortly afterwards and they likely had an ideal what it was going to take to extend him before they pulled that trigger.
  4. The Detroit Tigers won 3 more games than we did in 2019 and the Sox largely had the same team that won a world series in 2018. It's not like I'm pulling this out of nowhere, as it's been reported that the Tigers have kicked the tires on trading Skubal if they can't resign him. Which is where I think the decision to trade him comes from, and not how many teams finish in front of you. Conversely, the Tigers could hold onto Skubal and trade him at the deadline in 2026 instead if they're out of contention and know they can't resign him. I'm not saying it's likely he's traded, it's probably more probable than not he isn't. But if the Tigers decide to trade him.....you got to be interested.
  5. Ok, but there's been rumblings that Detroit has considered shopping him around. Perhaps they're just that, rumors, but it happens, and if he does go on the trade market you'd be insane to not kick the tires and see if you could live with the contract/price
  6. Because they have no interest in resigning him at the value he wants. If you know you're not going to dish out 400 million for him why not get value? That's what happened with Soto, and that's what happened with Betts. It's not that insane....teams do it.
  7. Every single player in MLB would extend for the right price. The question becomes what that price is and if you can live with it. If the answer is no.....then you don't trade for him.
  8. Because if Skubal is legit on the trade market another team will trade for him. And while that doesn't guarantee they extend him there's a good chance they could. We shouldn't be as inept as the Yankees were with Soto, you don't do this if you can't extend him. You should have a pretty darn good ideal what his number is.
  9. I'm not saying I like it, but I think a lot of this is their philosophy in advanced metrics and using data to analyze players. Personally, I would really like them to do both, maybe they feel that would be a conflict of interest.
  10. Here's a BTV trade that works 3 way with the Cleveland Guardians. Disclaimer: I know this is a long shot, and does not fully grasp team needs and evaluations, but it's for fun and conversation. Tigers get: Travis Bazzana/Connelly Early/Michael Kennedy Guardians get: Jarren Duran/David Sandlin Red Sox get: Tarik Skubal/Khal Stephen/Jacob Cozart Why the Tigers do it. They can't resign Skubal, so they go out and get value for him now. They get a controllable pitcher with 6 years of team control, and a top infield prospect in Travis Bazzana who fills a need on their roster, and another young arm in Kennedy. Why the Guardians do it. They reportedly have liked Duran and need both help in the outfield and the bullpen, Sandlin is a high minors prospect who many think is best suited for the bullpen who could probably accelerate his path to the majors by committing to the bullpen. Why the Red Sox do it: Do I really need to explain????
  11. A third team certianly complicates things and makes it harder. Yet, we see three team trades so this is certainy a possibility
  12. I don’t care what BTV says it’s going to take more than Duran to get Skubal. perhaps Duran/Early/Arias gets it done. high price, and not one I do without knowing we can extend him. But if you can, you do that.
  13. Ok….but roster building isn’t always a zero sum game. Trading and signing Skubal doesn’t exclude you from getting better elsewhere. If you have a legit chance at getting the best pitcher in baseball you take a swing.
  14. Nooooo, I do this trade if I can extend Skubal. you'd have to overpay for him so it would take more than Duran. if you had Crochet/Skubal at the top of your rotation you could put whoever else 3-5. That rotation is going to shove and makes you an automatic World Series contender
  15. Well, remember only a little less than half his salary was reduced and they took on salary but it definitely reduced it. honesty it will be an interesting offseason, I was 100% convinced they were going over last year, this year not so much but I still feel it’s more probable
  16. Barely going over the line is going over the line.
  17. I was right last year, I’ll be right this year
  18. let’s try something different. lets all agree that the rotation as is, is subpar, and not worthy of a deep playoff run. don’t shoot the messenger for laying out who those guys are. can we all agree that the Sox should go out and get a good TOTRS if they’re serious about competing next year?
  19. I predict they will, like last year, go above the luxury tax line. they’ve stated in the past a willingness to do so when they feel they can be competitive, and I believe they think they can take a step forward and it will take an investment to improve the rotation and the infield
  20. that was exactly my point, you don’t have a three and in the absence of not adding anyone SOMEONE HAS to pitch the third game of the season. My rotation wasn’t the one I predict, it’s the one we have right now with no moves.
  21. I don’t really care, it’s all really meaningless after Crochet/Bello. Who after him as had any sustained MLB success and been better than a #4? Disagree all you want, but at least tell us who you want #3 right now? me slotting him in at #3 doesn’t mean I think he’s going to be a three. Or that he is even going to be the #3 this is a very weird argument. It’s not a huge deal and the fact that people are revolted at the ideal of him as the #3 kind of proves my original point of needing to add to the rotation
  22. Setting the over under this year a little above the first threshold. Will this team spend? Place your bets
  23. Yeah, my take is pretty much get a legit ace-esq guy at the top behind crochet, and everyone else can work out 3-5. Probably Bello at 3 and whoever next. It will work itself out on spring training.
