  1. Certainly sounds like Northcut is singable. https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/high-school/ohio-high-school/2018/06/07/three-former-mason-baseball-players-were-picked-mlb-draft/681187002/
  2. You were concerned about Tatum?>?????? Please tell me more about how CASAS sucks.
  3. I understand where you're going with this, but remember it's a two way street with prospect value. Yes, guys bust and everyone screaming "DON'T TRADE HIM" look dumb and you get peanuts for them. But guys like Mookie Betts, and Xander Bogaerts are worth 3X the amount now as they would have been when they too were prospects. A farm system exists to support the big league club. Sometimes that entails trading guys, other times it makes sense to hold onto your chips.
  4. Most of these guys do go bust, even top of the first round picks fail 50% or more of the time, so claiming these guys will probably bust is taking the easy way out. That would be like me trying to claim I'm a weather man by predicting sunny skies every day.
  5. I'm not sure Devers has anything to learn in the minors. Best way to learn how to hit MLB pitching is to face MLB pitching, he already passed the minors and he needs how to learn to adjust to the league adjusting to him. Sticking with him can pay some dividends, and as long as the team is winning I think it makes that decision a lot easier. If he's smashing the ball come August just remember these days. Hopefully he can turn it around because he's a potential middle of the order bat.
  6. This pick was your classic high risk/high reward pick. He was ranked by MLB/BA/PG @ #20 #25 and #31 respectively. 6'4" 240 LB's with plus plus raw power to all fields. If this guy hits, he's your clean up hitter. It will also be interesting to see what these guys sign for. There's no way they have enough money to sign both Northcut and Watson. I was actually thinking Watson was their back up if a deal with Northcut falls through. It might be hard to go too far under-slot with Casas and Decker but admittedly I know nothing. The Sox completely changed their strategy in this draft and went big, lets hope it pays some dividends in a few years.
  7. If this guy turns into the Trey Ball of hitters I'm going to completely blame you.
  8. What is absolutely fascinating is that the Sox are going with a completely different draft strategy and one I've never seen before. They're swinging for the fences and going after big power guys. I can't think of the last time the Sox signed a 1B in the first round.
  9. It's 50/50 at this point. The ultimate lazy man's answer, I know. But there's a strong possibility he signs. He's definitely getting drafted tomorrow, the questions do he sign and that will come down to, as you said, if a team has saved enough money on rounds 3-10 today to sign him.
  10. From Baseball America: Triston Casas HS 1B/3B Notes: School: American Heritage School, Plantation, Fla. Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 238 | B-T: L-R | Commit/Drafted: Miami Scouting Report: One of the top power-hitting players in the class, Casas has established an impressive track record as a corner infielder who was originally supposed to be in the 2019 draft class before reclassifying to become eligible this June. A two-time member of USA Baseball’s 18U National Team, Casas was named the World Baseball Softball Confederation’s player of the year in 2017, after leading the U-18 World Cup field with three home runs and 13 RBI, pushing Team USA to a gold-medal victory over Korea. He was also named the MVP of the tournament. Casas has 70-grade raw power out of a 6-foot-4, 240-pound frame that he has maintained well over the offseason, and he might be a bit lighter now after trimming up prior to his final season with American Heritage High in Plantation, Fla. His power plays to all fields, and Casas has enough to drive balls out of the park even when he doesn’t make solid contact. The Miami commit has a patient, selective approach at the plate and was among the more difficult player to pitch to on the summer showcase circuit according to a number of pitchers, although he has shown some of the swing-and-miss tendencies that can coincide with long arms. A surprisingly good athlete for his size, Casas has plus arm strength, which gives him an outside shot to play third base, where he plays for American Heritage. Most scouts believe he’ll inevitably slide to first base, however, which is a tough position to draft out of high school. But it is also challenging to find a hitter in the draft class with a better combination of hitting ability, plate discipline, power and track record against quality arms than Casas provides.
  11. He played 3B, but many see 1B in his future.
  12. Kiley McDaniels is reporting that the Sox will draft Triston Casas in two picks from now. A HS senior with plus-plus raw power. High Ceiling, Low floor guy for sure.
  13. Wow, Yankees are really reaching here.
  14. Supposedly Brewers are going with Turang, I think the Sox reach for some Beer if that happens.
  15. There goes Logan Gilbert #14 to the Mariners. I guess he was sort of a pipe dream though.
  16. reminiscent of Groome falling in the draft, I have a hard time seeing him falling that far. The thing is once you fall out of the top 12 or so you're falling to teams who didn't anticipate you being there and didn't plan on having the money for you so theres a chance the teams draft the guy they had in their plans and the player keeps falling. I forget the players' name but there was a guy a few years back who was a consensus top 10 picks who fell out of the first round but still got one of the highest bonuses in the draft because a team a big bonus pool was able to afford his demands in the compensation round. He could fall, but he might blow up your whole draft too to get him.
  17. If Available the Sox will select Logan Gilbert or Brice Turang. Very good chance those guys go off the board in the 15-25 area of the draft. Aside from those guys falling the names that have been heavily connected to the Sox the past week have been. Seth Beer. OF JR Clemson. Shane McClanahan. LHP JR. Florida Steele Walker OF JR. Oklahoma Seth Beers name has been showing up a lot leading right up to the draft, he definitely wins the coolest name in the draft. Also, of interest, is Roger Clemens son Kody Clemens is in this draft and has had talks with the Sox leading up to tonight. I'm not sure where he's projected to go but he's on the board for this team as well.
  18. Coming up through the system Devers was always notoriously a slow starter, although this time it could also be trying to adjust to the league. He's still insanely young, and I have little doubt in time he's going to be a beast at the plate.
  19. I'd like to see Beeks given a shot at some point. Many people have him pegged for a reliever at the MLB level and maybe he can be a great one at that buy when you do what he's doing at AAA right now you give the kid a chance to prove you wrong first. I wouldn't mind seeing a 6 man rotation for a month or so. The extra rest might help get some guys back on track and keep the staff fresh for the playoffs.
  20. I think Ben C. and Theo take a guy like Turang. But Dave Dombrowski seems to have a history of predominantly drafting college pitchers, especially RH pitchers. The Sox have been said to really really like Logan Gilbert, but there's a good chance he is gone by the time he falls to the Sox. With the system Baren, and the MLB team in win now mode I wonder if the Sox go heavy in the college department and try to draft some guys who can reach the majors quicker.
  21. Theres a lot of talk that the Sox will take Turang if he is there, but there's also a ton of talk connecting him to NY too. The Sox are also connected to a 1B/OF prospect named Seth Beer. Not much of an athlete, and probably will stay at 1B as a pro so that rules out 1/2 the teams but supposedly he can hit. He should make it on having a cool name alone.
  22. If the league is fixed, how come we never hear about this from the owners? If I was a billionaire team owner who saw my team lose because they are not Golden State or whoever you bet your ass I'd be vocal about it. Also, I'm not much of a conspiracy theory guy. Back when I use to judge boxing matches I remember the one thing you never want to see is an equal match, because 100% of the time whatever call you make the otherside accuses you of being "biased" or "blind" and I believe I've been called an effing AH a few times too. When everything else is even, both sides always think they win. Now when you break things down play by play, there are a bunch of missed calls in every single game. How often does an umpire make a bad strike or ball call? 99% of the time, if you stepped back and took an ubiased look at it you'd end up seeing that they're making bad calls for both sides. I'm pretty sick of Golden State/Cleveland myself.....but it will be nice to see Lebron lose for a 3rd time in a row.
  23. They had Vasquez and Leon both playing well, and they thought Swiharts bat was too good to give up so they gave him reps elsewhere. Swihart was still developing but he was a top 25 prospect in all of baseball at one point for a reason. I think the Sox screwed up his development, but lets hope the book isn't closed on him just yet.
  24. I don't buy it, then why even start the season with him? It obviously came down to the money but it couldn't all be about the money. Because if it was all about the money and not the slump then why not let him play it out and then release him when he gets closer? Makes zero sense, this was about his play. And yes, the leash was much shorter because of the 22 million, that seems like the most logical explanation to me.
  25. On a brighter note, the MLB team is really really good.
