  1. If we could live in hypothetical la la land for just one moment. What would one make of a guy who: Bats .167 strikes out 300 times hits 100 home runs knocks in 300 RBIS
  2. I was actually just thinking about this the other day. At what point is it time to stop showing 2022 numbers and put 2023 numbers up there? the second series? the second week? 10 days? 14 days? Is there a specific threshold or is it just arbitrary?
  3. The only good thing about looking at stats this early is the hilarity of how unsustainable they are. I mean, maybe Tampa goes 162-0, Adam Duvall will hit 108 Home Runs, score 382 times and knock in 432 runs. Wander Franco is on pace to be the first .600 hitter in baseball!!!!!!!! Can you guys believe Alex Bregman is looking to strike ou 283 times this year? Jeffery Sprints will strike out 384 batters in just 194 innings without surrendering one hit the ENTIRE YEAR!!!!
  4. There's a reason why they still put 2022 stats on the NESN feed right now.
  5. Good thing Bloom resigned Kike. No one thought that was a bad ideal.
  6. I’m pretty unimpressed by CERA, I think it’s a good reason to penalize good catchers when the guy throwing to them is laying eggs. By all accounts McGuire is a good defensive catcher. The question mark with him will be his bat.
  7. But I’m glad there seems to be some momentum for the rules needing to be fixed here. Perhaps, the curious case of Noah Song will be the things that pushes MLB to change the rules.
  8. Yeah he could have, or he could not of. It’s like jumping into and exercise program after being out of shape for a while, which has happened to me more than once in life. A few of those times I hurt myself, I hurt myself thinking i could pick up where I left off. When I started off slow and built my way up, I didn’t get hurt. I don’t have a crystal ball, but I’d be willing to bet if I did, that following a proper shoulder strengthening program for a few months before throwing off a mound would have led to a healthy Song. The Phillies didn’t do that, and the exact thing happened to him that a slow build up is suppose to prevent. That’s a bad look.
  9. If he sucks I’ll own it. But my cup is half full
  10. I will toot my horn for being one of the only guys on the Duvall train.
  11. I’m not sure what point is proven that something hypothetically could have been correct that is in fact, not correct. I suppose it’s not fact, but it should be obvious…..if they knew he was being released I don’t think they select him.
  12. I don’t think it’s silly at all. He hasn’t pitched in 3 years, he also NEVER even came close to a starters load, or was consistently on a shoulder strengthening program. And he has NOT been in a strength and conditioning program for at least 3 years. He hasn’t pitched off a mound in three years. If Song stayed in Boston he’d be in Fort Myers on a shoulder strengthening program and looking to start throwing off a mound in a couple months. When Philly got stuck in a position where they had to pitch him this year they threw him RIGHT on the mound and guess what????? He got injured. That’s an open and shut case. Their irresponsibility with him directly led to his injury. The “rules what they are” is a poor argument too. The military reserve list is an antiquated system built for a time when you were losing Ted Williams to a world war. It wasn’t built to deal with guys developing like Song. No one has ever done what DD has done, and he did it and now the kid is injured. I would say it is unethical, I’m thoroughly convinced of this, and in no way is good for his development.
  13. What you’re describing is a legitimate grievance, and if investigated DD should be suspended for a year if he does that.
  14. A theory based on pure conjecture is the definition of a conspiracy theory. It’s ok, it doesn’t make you crazy or a bad person, there’s far worse conspiracy theories out there.
  15. I’ll say it before and I’ll say it again. McGuire has only played through his age 27 season. Catchers aew notorious late bloomers. They focus on their defense so much more than other position players in the minors. McGuire might just be a lousy offensive player with plus D behind the player, might work out to be a plus if they platoon him right with Wong. But he could also poised for a breakout year.
  16. Hes' really good defenseively, and since he's been in Boston he's been good with the bat too. I'm not sure where the McGuire hate from left field comes from after opening day. But to each their own.
  17. You would think pitchers would use this to their advantage too to self-correct. Maybe I'm missing something here but I would think this works both ways, if the pitchers noticed it, they should start throwing over at 1-2 seconds left. I think Pitchers should also start working on pitching even quicker than the pitch clock so they have the capacity to mix up the timing. Maybe this won't work for some as pitchers are creatures of habit, but I'd expect some would take to this well.
  18. Is there a better solution to not getting guys out?
  19. They should. Noah Song could be in extended spring training right now, working on a shoulder-strengthening program, building up endurance, velocity, etc etc. Instead, a kid who has never pitched above Low A ball his entire life and that was back in 2019 is being forced to not only be an MLBer but had to forgo that training process he should have had to go through and throw off a mound right away and got hurt. His injury was 100% predictable, and DD should ashamed of what he's doing to this kid's development.
  20. Yes, but those days are paused if he goes on the IL.
  21. I think the Phillies absolutely would have benefited from Song being able to stay on the military list, which is exactly why I didn't buy the whole "Philly could have contacted someone at the DoD and gotten the heads up" conspiracy theory. I still think DD is going a huge disservice to this kid, and I hope this is used as a case study to change the rules. Rule 5 is supposed to help players who are MLB-ready from being stuck and stashed in the minors....but for a guy like Song it could be derailing or at least further delaying an MLB career. Well that's actually not true, because he's going to play in the MLB this year, but the kid had a chance to start and he will not have the luxury of ramping up his innings on a throwing program or developing his pitches without the pressures of MLB in the minors for a few years. It would have made sense for the Sox and Songs development if they could have got another year to protect him
  22. I expect when Bello and Whitlock come back we see the end of Ort and the bullpen gets a lot better. The good news is we are going to get them both back very soon, the fear is other injuries happen....which can happen. Hopefully this team has better luck on the injury front this season. My anxiety will be high with every cringe on the field.
  23. Why are you asking me? why does any player get traded, released, dfa, not resigned? we see a lot of other reasons that don't equate to "he stinks". I don't know the answer to your question, but I do not McGuire is a plus defender, and at this point in his career entering his age 28 season he's actually put up better offensive numbers than Vasquez did up to age 28. Now that might not mean anything, but we do not Catchers are notorious for being late bloomers with the bat. McGuire doesn't have to be a plus bat. If he has a .680+ OPS with the bat and play plus defense he's fine hitting 9th. If he takes a step forward with the bat then that's amazing. Personally, I wanted to make a run at Contreras.
  24. Misery loves company I suppose, but I find joy in the hilarity of people giving up after one game. ONE, Uno, Un, Ett, Um, Odin, Moja!!!!
  25. Reese McGuire is a really good defender. He's a step up in that way. Since he's been on this team he's played better than Vaszquez.
