How old was the woman in question? Franco is 22, she could have been 17. Now, while I consider that inappropriate, that certainly doesn't make someone a "pedophile" and I find it highly inappropriate to just liberally use such a term. -
I think for that package maybe you can get another Pivetta type, maybe flip Pivetta as well and save a few dollars.

You're not wrong BUT. Aren't many of the scenarios we come up with here on this board based on assumptions? maybe the odds are low, but not astronomically, people who fit Hernandez's profile take one-year deals all the time. Even if it's more likely than not he does not, it's not a terribly unlikely scenario either. And while I agree with your plate discipline, I try to look at that as the totality of the team. If Verdugo could bring in a guy who makes your pitching staff better, and Hernandez/Rafeala push Yoshida to DH I think the team is overall better.

I think it all comes down to the player. This could be right up his alley, or he might opt for the long term security, even if it's much less than what he may get with a bounce back year. Neither is right or wrong and to be fair, we really have no ideal what he would be open to at this point. Also, it's not like a player ever signed a 1 year deal with Boston after playing in Seattle to rebuild his value and had a really good year or something.....that NEVER happened (sarcasm, not a serious comp).

You would think, but he could probably substantially raise his value with a bounce-back year, which leads me to think he may open to a bigger one-year payday in 2024 to rebuild his value. This is the whole premise of this scenario that I believe to be very plausible.

There's also a difference between paying a guy 20 million for one year vs. dishing out a long term contract. Verdugo likely declines, if he doesn't great, the outfield market is very thin anyways and in a year they are built to blow past the tax line a 1 year bridge is fine to pave the way for a guy like Roman Anthony. It just keeps on making sense. come to my side.....come to the dark side.

eh, but I'd rather get a guy like Hernandez who may be willing to take a 1 year deal and deal Verdugo for starting pitching and allow someone like Abreu and Refsnyder to provide that depth. Add pitching, a more balanced L/R lineup. Better overall outfield defense. A resurgent Hernandez might have a better year than Verdugo, the back or your rotation gets solidified, and you still might be able to offer a guy like Hernandez a QO anyways.

Yes, if my scenario of starting Hernandez over Verdugo in RF for 2024 doesn't materialize I'd be ok with Alex out there next year and offering the QO after next season.

You're probably right, but that means Verdugo leaves for a QO (which I'm actually fine with) and Yoshida is still killing your defense in LF instead of maximizing his value as a DH.

You have to add another outfielder to that mix, There are way too many unproven guys in that mix. If I'm not adding someone like Hernandez, I'm not trading Verdugo.

They've been heavily scouting him as well. Next year is also the perfect time both from a team building, salary position, and FA availability point of view to go big on pitching. It's why I'm betting on it.

Read my last approach to Moon, I prefer 1 year of Hernandez to 1 year of Verdugo. The dude might want to cash in on his only chance of a payday if he can have a bounce-back season. Otherwise if the price is reasonable I'd rather extend Verdugo. I also like the ideal of adding pitching with Dugo and banking on breaking even with Teoscar for a year.

Teoscar Hernandez, at first glance he'd be a small downgrade from Verdugo, but marginally, slightly lower defense and OBP, a lot more power and he'd balance the lineup better from the right side. I like this scenario under the even that Verdugo can not be extended to something reasonable so perhaps you trade him with a prospect for a year of control for a guy like Clevinger, and Hernandez would be willing to take a 1 year deal to build his value back up after a down season. Then you go out and sign a Snell/Yama/Urias type to lead the rotation.

Hernandez has a career OPS almost 40 points higher than Verdugo despite the down season. I think you get something for Verdugo and wager Teoscar would sign a one-year deal to build some value back after a down year. A LA Adrian Beltre. I think the drop-off in defense is there but marginal, and your defense overall gets much better with Duran in left over Yoshida and Rafaeal in CF. This permutation also adds a starter to your rotation making for a stronger team.

Well that is just the thing, his bat is probably the closest, but if it's reaching the majors it's likely because he is mashing and at another position. I have a feeling he moves off of catcher full/most of the time soon. I also don't think learning a new position would hold him back from AAA, I think they'd have little problem giving him a 1B mit and playing him in AAA.

If Turner opts out, they could trade Verdugo for some pitching (an upgrade over Kluber) go out on the market pick up and Ace and sign Teoscar Hernandez for year, start Ceddanne. Sliding Yoshida to DH. Duran LF Story SS/2B Devers 3B Yoshida DH Teoscar Hernandez RF Tristan Casas 1B Luis Urias/FA 2B Ceddane Rafaela CF Connor Wong C Sign Yama to be your Ace and move 2 of Whitlock/Houck/Crawford to the pen for the season.

You mean 1.5 years. I'm not sure how I'd feel about giving him a contract at 40 years old. Would love for someone else to slid over to LF and let Yoshida DH after next year.

I think Hickey has the best chance to start in AAA of the group, but if not he may be the first promotion. From a playing time perspective Mayer is closer but the numbers haven't been there, but if he comes back healthy and smashes next year I can see him as an early summer promtion.

Now you're talking my language. I do anticipate, maybe hope, Henry and company are going to turn a few heads and make a big splash this offseason. Not Ohtani big.

It’s much more probable then not the Sox to over the tax line. Most years they do, this year was a reset year.
