  1. It's also a very LAD thing to do. Heck if you're a big market team and you get less draft picks then you need to hit on them more if you want a strong farm. Making scouting ever more important in my opinion.
  2. Emptied the farm isn't anagolous with... There are no prospects in this system and if one becomes a good mlb player that actually means the farm wasn't emptied. What if we had twice the amount of young stars on this team right now? probably doesn't happen because a lot of guys we did trade away were busts but that's precisely the type of thing that if it does happen turns you into Atlanta.
  3. Why? been there done that, that's 2019 news. It doesn't matter why Dave was fired, why Dave was fired has little to do with 2023 and what the Sox want or think Bloom can do.
  4. I disagree, more and more and more teams are spending money. We have slipped in spending not because we are spending less but because everyone else is spending more. When you take into consideration the amount of money flowing into baseball, the Red Sox, and how much it pays to win, Henry can justify spending $260 million if he wanted to. I think that last 4 years is conditioning us to accept less. Look at the Sox WS years, we spent a lot more than everyone or mostly everyone else that year. We need pitching, there's plenty of it available and we need 2-3 guys. We aren't trading away the farm to build a rotation, and there's plenty of risk in middling guys as well.
  5. I'm sure there's more fish in the sea than the "rays guys" I find it very encouraging the beefed up their scouting departments.
  6. Isn't that kind of saying the same thing?
  7. BOLD prediction, he's gone this offseason.
  8. Maybe, just maybe, that's why Bloom was fired. He would likely never be able to outbid the other GM's for those pitchers.
  9. I would say he already is the backup 1B. If Casas went down long term, Bobby would get a look.
  10. Sox need a couple big moves that could easily propel them into being a WS contender. Yes, this assumes some forward progress and growth by guys already on the roster, but that may be reasonable with the likes of Casas, Duran, Yoshida, Rafeala etc etc. They need two big-time starting pitchers, or at least 1 ace and a good mid-rotation starter. They need a big RHB. They can get 2/3 of these easily in free agency if they are willing to spend. With the firing of Bloom we can be optimistic here but it's certainly uncertain if that's the direction they take. The big RHB is not as clear. There's nothing in FA, and one could argue if Rafeala can hit, Story is finally healthy and they resign Duval that they may be ok there. But they can't bank on that happening. Still, if all they did was resign Duval but then went out and got two legit pitchers to add to the rotation E.G. SNell + Yama I would be happy and very optimistic for the 2024 season.
  11. https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/id/28039095 The Soxprospects have an amazing breakdown of the Bloom firing. There are some things in here that I was unaware of that actually have me very optimistic of the future and that I did not know Bloom had been overseeing. Over the past several years under Bloom the Sox have vastly ramped up the amount of money they spend on amateur scouting and increased the number of scouts they have as well. This was the jist of it. These are the types of moves that build long-term success, that help a sustainable winning franchise but don't bear immediate fruit. Bloom did a piss poor job of building the MLB roster, but he apparently did do some great things for this organization top to bottom. Frankly, I'm a little ired that this wasn't the case before hand. We are Boston, we should be spending heavily there compared to most other teams anyways.
  12. You know......I thought that might be the case. Have you been drinking out at sea? I mean, it's Friday and almost 5 o'clock somewhere.
  13. I'm the type of guy who usually does not drink at baseball games, I like to enjoy such things with a clear state of mind. But when I'm at the Tampa game on the 26th you might just find me 6-7 deep wondering around Fenway. This is what this season has done to me.
  14. More out of left field than the number of left fielders on the Sox roster.
  15. I didn't even know who he was until yesterday, that comment was just out of left field lol. I may be a lot of things....A LOT OF THINGS, I just a man with many character flaws.....but playing victim certainly isn't one of them.
  16. Da f***......don't you have more posts than me? Edit. Oh I guess not lol
  17. I would believe that.
  18. Someone once said this and I honestly can't remember if it was a poster on the soxprospects thread or if Ian said it on the podcast but it really resonated with me and I've adopted it as my own. If you're the most rational guy in the room every time, you will be outbid every time. Bloom has a value system, and he sticks to his guns, and that is commendable, but his inability to EVER leave that comfort zone is what led to some terrible roster decisions....or rather some roster indecisions that have really hurt this teams performance the past two years. Henry is, or at least I HOPE he is going to hire someone who has the fortitude to ensure the Sox get a couple of these top tier free agents this winter. No team gets all the top guys, even the Mets and Dodgers but the Sox used to always be players and get their guy every once in a while. Now it just doesn't happen. That has to change.
  19. Probably not, but I'm sure certain moves have to be run by Henry. Who knows what that threshold is. 300 mil, 200 mil, 150 mil? IDK, but I'm sure there's a number that any guy working for Henry knows....hey, If i'm spending this I need to run it by the boss.
  20. I should be more clear. I'm not talking about a "picture" i'm talking about the video of him from that day after finding out Bogey didn't sign with them.
  21. I could believe it's true, but something is missing. Like, and this is a shot in the dark, Henry and Co. agreed that they didn't want to trade Sale or something like that. But now they're using it to throw him under the bus. People need to really stop and ask themselves, why is all this stuff coming out now? it's obviously being leaked by the Sox F.O. They have an agenda. I can understand why that might sound like a conspiracy theory to some, but it's pretty obvious when you think about this. If anyone other than the F.O. new about this it would have been a pretty big news story, the press would not have sat on this. It's pretty pathetic on the part of Henry and company if you ask me. I'm almost insulted.
  22. SIgning Kike for 10 mil wasn't a problem, not signing a stop gap SS was the problem. Just like bringing JBJ back wasn't a problem, the problem was not having him as your 4th outfielder because you failed to sign a RF/CF Taking a chance in the dumpster on a guy like Kluber wasn't the problem, the problem was making that your premier rotation move and failing to build a rotation overall. Many of Blooms moves in a vacuum weren't bad at face value, and even the ones that did not work out because hey, even the best gms make bad moves. Even the best guys sign guys like Kluber ALL the time, they just make other moves on top of that. They're not relying on these small moves to build their team. This was ultimately Bloom's downfall, he never did enough, he was too principled and in the end it bit him in the ass. I know believe these reports last offseason about theme seriously bidding on all these guys. I think he was just outbid again and again. Sox obviously need to go out and get pitching, and Bloom just wasn't going to do that.
  23. I don't believe this. I remember the look on Blooms face after Bogey signed with SD, he was legit distraught, really the only time I had seen him so. I think he really thought he was going to resign him, and was even willing to go a little above his comfort level, perhaps one of the ONLY times he would have done so (which was a huge weakness on his part). He was in a state of shock. I would believe, or rather I DO believe that management made no real sincere attempts to retain him up until that point.
  24. I can say one thing. It feels like the firing, and the obvious STENCH coming from Henrys office has done something we haven't seen around here in ages. Unite the fan base.
  25. the whole up the middle position has been cursed this year. We had two massive forces working against us. 1. More injuries than are natural, it just felt like mi's kept getting injured on this team. 2. Lack of starting options. They failed to resign and then replace Bogaerts.
