We have many times, we've just not been as successful at that since 2018. But as the Mets have clearly shown us you don't just spend your way to the top. Sox added $71 million to their per anum payroll this past year and you don't have 26' numbers to compare this year yet. They added a .900 OPS bat, they added Durbin who's been on a tear and looks close to one too and they added two guys who have been borderline front line starters. That's almost unprecedented to add that many quality player in one offseason. Most teams are lucky to add 1 premium player, even the Dodgers go out and sign 2-3 big guys during a BIG offseason. You can't give them all the blame when things are bad and still have those same complaints when everything is going good. If the Sox spent like the Mets they'd have a 420 million dollar a year payroll. They couldn't even get there this offseason if they tried. And what the Mets are doing is unsustainable.

He's still a top spender, at a certain point spending money just to spend money has diminished returns. Look at the New York Mets this year......all that spending the last two years have done almost NOTHING for them. You still need to make good trades, you still need to develop guys, you still need to scout, coach, and manage. You don't need a $300 million dollar payroll to do that. One of the reasons the Dodgers are so good is because they do all those things, the Mets are right up there with them in spend and they suck because they do not. Just spending more money for the sake of spending money can easily make you the New York Mets. Dude, you're just digging for reasons to be upset. The team is literally on an historic 100 year run and you're finding ways to be dissapointed.

You can sugar coat it anyway you want to try and twist the argument but the Sox still spend year in and year out more than the vast majority of teams. You can't call them cheap man....not when they have a payroll well north of 200 million

If he made all the wrong moves according to all of us but they won the world series what does it matter? what does any of it matter. It's his job to take those risks, to know if player abc is going to grow into something more. He takes the risk of betting Durbin and Mead for example will grow into being elite players. He took the risk that Bennett would be better than Perales and/or help us this year. He is the one with the scouting reports, and the player personnel and executives all telling him what the value of what is. He gets the blame and the credit. If those bets don't pay off you look bad, if they pay off you look great. You want the luxury of criticizing this team when they don't work out but still being critical when it does. It doesn't work that way.

Too Cheap? he spent past the 2nd luxury tax threshold and have the 6th highest payroll in mlb. But they're cheap OK

That's your argument? to ignore the 5 signings I laid out and to compare Schwarber and Alonso to bench/aaa depth players? Like is any team on earth signing Schwarber to sit on the bench. Come on man you're comparing apples to oranges. No one wanted the Sox to trade for Contreras who is having a better season than guess which two players?????

The guy is literally having a career year. He's 2 HR's away from his career high after only playing about 2/3 of the season. OBVIOUSLY not having "protection" has been zero issues for him.....when people get it into their heads they don't like a guy it will forever stick. Randy Quads character in Major League is a paradoy of what we see amongst fans in real life. There's literally people watching this team play right now thinking "pfffff they'll come down to earth soon enough" and when they make the playoffs they'll say "pfffff they'll blow it in the playoffs" Ok maybe....but like this team is playing historically good just so just enjoy it, and if you have critism make sure it makes sense and isn't saying a guy who is offensively having a career year needed protection.

Because not having another RH bat to protect Contreras has hurt him by allowing him to suffer by having a career year? lol. He's literally having a career year. I think you just want to complain about this team.

Everything ticked up. Since June 25th they're. 15th in HR 7th in Runs 9th in BB% 16th in SLG% Those numbers aren't eye popping, but they're average to slightly above across the board. Which is good enough when you have elite pitching and defense.

I dont' think 2027 is a lost season, but I think it's very very likely they're going to miss games.

The offense has been fine for the past two months, and he's been adding offense at the deadline. The team has been the best team in baseball for almost two months now.

Again you fail to address the fact that Breslow had great offseason. Gray/Saurez/Bennet/Contreras/Durbin now.....even the lesser roster pieces have done really well for their roles E.G. Moran/Watson/Guerrero/Monasterio. When has a GM ever added that many quality players in one offseason?

In Hindsight that seems obvious and makes more sense to me, I obviously wrongly interpreted that question. It seems like they often don't get pitchers into games, that doesn't mean they don't start working with them and getting them on programs. Since they went position player this year I think they will see some time at some point. The vast majority of position players play in some games the year they're drafted. The only one that didn't that comes to mind is Braden Montgomery, but wasn't he rehabbing an injury??? I would like to change my answer to 90%

Unacceptable? again name one offseason where a GM added 3 really good starting pitchers to a rotation and two good position players (1 if you don't wanna put Durbin there yet).???? If you can't answer that question you're effectively saying Bres"LOW" is a bad POBO because he didn't do what no one else can do.

Since some of the pieces he got actually started hitting this team has been the best team in baseball.

Agreed, his velocity is still there. He's not the ACE he once was but he's still a good #2 pitcher. I'd certainly bite for a reasonable price.

I pretty much agree wtih your point, I'm being facetious. But for the sake of an argument didn't Cuerrero throw 102 when he sucked too? It's never too late to change...

Yeah, I just looked at his spray chart. Still, he'd probably be an elite hitter in Boston but his numbers may take a hit. Couple that with his subpar defense and it's a no-go for me. I'd still have luke warm interest with him at 2B/LF if he could make those switches. He'd destroy the Yankees

I think Schaffner & Hull be around 8 and 9 and Mataczynski & Shelar will sneak in at the 15-20 range.

I think the odds are 0. When have the Sox ever drafted a guy who made it to the majors that year? and if they ever have it's probably not a position player. They might not even play this year in the minors.

I think Tyron Guerrero has taught us all that it's never too late to change.

Abrams might be the worse defensive short stop in all of baseball. He's in the bottom 1% for range. If I'm trading for Abrams it's because I think he can be much better at 2nd, while also spending time at DH this year. If I don't think he makes a good second baseman he's not a fit for this team. If he had .3 years of control left and the cost was down and he's just a rental I'd be more inclined to bite. But he's going to be on your team for 27/28 laying eggs at SS and making the pitching staff worse.

There was serious questions about Campbells swing amongst scouts as well.

Sonny Gray Has pitched towards the top of the rotation Ranger Suarez pitching at the top of their rotation Jake Bennett - traded for him, rookie who is stepping it up and looking like a future fixture in our rotation. I think most people would be very hard pressed to ever find a GM/CBO who ever had an offseason where they went out and added 3 really good starters to their rotation. But then he added Durbin - what started off ugly is now paying dividends, he's play 3B at a GG level and has since June 1st is 4th amongst all MLB 3B in War Contreras - Has been gold at 1B, our best offensive player this year What positions didn't he fill that people want to fill now? Catcher, LF, SS? Narvaez looked like an allstar in the making after last year, we had a guy called Duran slated to play LF and Story/Mayer at SS. All who have seriously underperformed or got hurt. There's plenty of critism to go around, but Breslow probably had one of the better offseasons any executive has had in recent memory. How many teams have added 3 great starters and two position players who are playing at an elite level at their positions in one offseason? What more could we really of asked for? If everything wrong with a team could just be fixed in one offseason we'd see a lot more teams like the A's and Rockies competing more often.

Have we not been paying attention to elite prospects who come up and stink? (not singling you out this seems to be a prospect phenomna amongst fans) even often when they turn into mlb regulars it's very common to hit that wall at the MLB level. What makes Arias so special? Moncada was the #1 prospect in baseball, Mayer was the #4 prospect in baseball. Heck Bogaerts was the #1 prospect in baseball or maybe it was #2 and he was very pedesterian for his first 1.5 years. And, we've all seen how a kid can take massive steps back in his development when he is rushed too fast and asked to do too much. Look at Kristian Campbell? I firmly believe you bring up a prospect when he is ready for the bigs and not when the team needs a guy. If you want to mitigate those disasters then it's time to start approach player development from their side of things, you work on their timeline and if they're not there yet you go outside the organization and get a guy. Arias is 20 and was in Portland just last week. Could he be elite and the exception? absolutely, but a stat line and a prospect ranking isn't proof that he's that guy. But to answer your question I suppose one must ask which Durbin you are talking about? April-early June Durbin and Durbin now? because if it's Durbin now the answer he can be much much much worse than him.
