  1. Dude IDK, then someone is just mathing wrong. Or not? Some of those deals include kickers in them if they're called up to the majors and they end up getting paid more than other guys. Guys who sign MILB deals. We could also see a few more of those before ST. It can all add up to 4-5 million pretty quickly, which is about how much those estimates all diverge by.
  2. I'm not sure if they're actually paying that, I think that money still counts towards the cap. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that is his bonus being spread out for LT purposes. It was already paid.
  3. I think there's a 50% chance the infielder we trade for is going to be a guy we aren't even talking about in here and one that few think of or even know about. I saw someone on the Soxprospects forum throw out the name Masyn Winn. I'm not saying he's the guy, or even sharing my opinion on him one way or the other. But I'm increasingly thinking that's the kind of move we see. It's going to be someone young, highly talented, who the Sox identify as someone who is ready to take off. And if they do they will look like geniuses, and if said player does not.....egg on their face. Jeremy Pena is another name I've seen thrown out there.
  4. red sox payroll This site is great and I suggest it to everyone in here. You can also look at projected payrolls out into 2033 and as far back as 2012
  5. Soxpayroll has the LT spend on players including $1.8 million still counting towards Devers at $234.395 million. Medical & Benefits $18.75 million Bonus and incentives $.10 million Pre-Arb bonus pool $1.67 million Minor League Costs $14 million This all adds up to $268.915 million. I generally trust Soxpayroll more than anyone else, but Cots and other sources are so close that I think it can all be explained away by the fact that certain numbers are just estimates. The $234.395 and some of the other costs are 100% predictable. But a lot of the minor league costs are just an estimate. No one can say with certainty how much they will spend on minor league costs. If players underperform and injuries pile up and minor leaguers have to be called up and start earning MLB salaries....salary goes up. I suppose this is why you're always going to get different numbers. Because people are going to project those costs differently.
  6. I think we've all seen that the elite teams that win it all often do both on a very good to elite level.
  7. I understand the logic on your point, but where do you get 35/50% from? even a bad defense is making 98% of the plays you should make. If you are right I think you need to recheck those numbers. Also, I think of it like this. A good hitter is on average going to get 12% of the at bats. But a good pitcher can pitch a complete game and shut down a team pitching 100% of the pitches. im open to buying to your math (adjusted) but i still believe on a good day, elite pitching beats elite hitting.
  8. Wait, I didn't say pitching was more important, but you are saying hitting is more important. I disagree with that. Hitting is more exciting, it's more tangible, it's easier to relate to seeing a home run go over the fence and watch the numbers change on the scoreboard. That's why I think people think it's more important. But that is false. it is not.
  9. "Only a Sith deals in absolutes" Obi-Wan Kenobi. IDK man, the Sox obviously need to improve their offense, especially after losing Bregman but they're far from a joke. They were 7th in Runs scored last year.
  10. I very much disagree with this. YOu'd be finding yourself on a team losing a lot of games 8-7 with that mentality.
  11. Now do the other 29 teams, Sox offense is not good but there's a lot of s***** offenses out there.
  12. So we are going to remain #3 in league projection. I still feel a lot better about this team and our chances in 2026 with Paredes.
  13. There's your corresponding move for the Suarez deal.
  14. Maybe, the Mets also recently put out a report that they're going to give Carson Benge every opportunity to earn a starting job in spring training. The kind of thing they might say if they're un-interested........also the type of thing they might say if they're actively in negotiations and posturing.
  15. I think Toronto is done, but the Yankees might add Bellinger
  16. Steamer projections now have the Sox with the #1 pitching staff in baseball, hitting not as good but they're still 7th overall. If Steamer projections came to fruition with 100% accuracy the Sox would be the 7th best team in all of baseball next year. The bad news is, there are 2 teams in the A.L. East still in front of them. If they make an honest move for an IF they will probably jump above the Yankees and slide in at 3 behind Toronto & LA
  17. The Mets still may be looking to add more outfield help, after Soto and Robert in CF/RF Duran would still be a very big upgrade for them in LF
  18. And Soxpayroll has them at $268.9. 3 conflicting reports, but they all seem to be hovering around that 270 mark so I think we can definitively say they're a few million above the 2nd threshold.
  19. I think a better troll would have been to actually post the thread, because that's what this forum needs.......another thread talking about the same damn thing we talk about everywhere else. Side note, was looking up cash payrolls. Using spotrac.com, the Dodgers drop all the way down to #10 when it comes to cash payroll, behind the Chicago Cubs and the Boston Red Sox. FWIW the Sox as of right now will have the second highest cash payroll in 2030. Which I suppose just means we have more of our young talent locked up. If we wanted to have an actual conversation (cringe I know) on this forum about payroll and how it relates to Henry's "cheapness" Wouldn't we want to use Cash payroll (not LT payroll) BUT add in LT paid out? Honestly I don't care enough to do the math at the moment but I'd be willing to bet the Sox are still in that 8ish range. Although they might jump up if they make another signing (which I don't believe is coming)
  20. This is the luxury tax thread. You want the "predicting C payroll" thread.
  21. It's not like his .228/.298 when you add them in is too enticing. He literally does nothing else, he does the one thing everyone loves that comes with other good things 99% of the time. This is the exception. I'm not even sure why we are all talking about this. I think it's painstakingly obvious the Sox are done adding payroll. Suarez has the one skill teams vastly overpay for, I wouldn't be completely shocked if he gets 55/2 or 60/2 or something like that. Which is 30+12 minus draft picks for the Sox. That ain't happening.
  22. Well the verdict is in, the Sox have spent and gone well above the first luxury tax threshold. Above the second luxury tax threshold actually.
  23. A Moncada/Romy platoon would probably return similar value for a fraction of the cost. I still don't like it though
  24. It literally makes zero sense at all. People just see that he hit a ton of home runs last year and that's it. It's like a horse race wearing his blinders that can't see anything else but that HR. HR are nice, and very important, but you have to see the forest for the trees as well.
