  1. There are certainly valid reasons for letting Bloom go . It will be up to Henry. My guess is that he will give Bloom more time to show better results. Maybe even another year or two. Henry has been pretty much staying out of sight. I don't know if he has the same passion for the team that he once had.
  2. In today's game , the bullpen rules. The smarter teams have realized that and staffed their pens accordingly. They have guys who you may never have heard of , but they come in and dominate for a inning or so. The Red Sox have missed the boat in this area . And it shows in the results.
  3. That's it . What they have done is the definition of sustained success . Everyone wants to win the ring , but we all should know that the post season is , at the very least , somewhat of a crapshoot . And it gets more so every year as more teams are added to the mix. That is why we are seeing the scramble for the third wild card now. A mediocre club can certainly get hot/lucky and win it all. But what the Dodgers have done is impressive.
  4. He knew baseball too. He informed and he entertained. A rare combination.
  5. Friedman and the Dodgers : 75-33. Best record in MLB. First place , 16 games ahead of a very good Padres team........ Bloom and the Red Sox : 54-56 . Last place , 17 games out . Nuff said.
  6. Eck was a great closer , a great announcer , a great guy . A true Hall of Famer. He will be missed. The difference between him and the other analysts is like night and day.
  7. To sum up. It is sad to see the Red Sox in this situation. I think new leadership is needed.
  8. He will be missed. The difference between Eck and the other guys is like night and day.
  9. Mookie is getting 30 mil a year for 12 years . The Sox could have done that if they wanted to. They chose not to .
  10. Notin , I honestly don't feel like responding to this , but I'll do it anyway. You made a post complaining that I am going after you and a couple of others rather than just Bloom. So I make a post strictly about Bloom and Dombrowski and you come back with a sarcastic " Can't handle it ? " Can't handle what ? Really , it's not worth my time doing this , but I will try to deal with your examples . In my opinion , the Kimbrel trade was one of our best deals in recent years and had a big part in the team's success for the next three years. In no way did it clean out the farm . Anyway , Kimbrel was gone after 2018 , so it had nothing at all to do with signing or trading Mookie. As for Price , it was not a good contract . Too much money for too many years. But it wasn't a total loss. Price went 46-24 , with a pretty decent ERA during his time with the Sox . Bloom decided to trade him , along with a true superstar , while agreeing to pay half his salary . So , live with it. As for Sale , what can I say ? Everybody loved Chris " Freakin' " Sale . And then he got hurt . It happens. The Mets are paying DeGrom 28 mil this season. He has been out all year. They are not crying about it. They are doing fantastic. This is Bloom's third year in charge. The team is plain awful. He has to be accountable. It is well past time for blaming his predecessor.
  11. Blaming D.D. for the current state of the Red Sox is well past it's expiration date. Throw it out.
  12. MLB is big business , not a fantasy league. And it gets more expensive all the time. You have to spend what it takes to put a really good team on the field . Of course it is possible to do it economically, but that is very difficult. The three highest payrolls this year belong to the Dodgers , Mets and Yankees . And the results are evident on the field. They are the best teams.
  13. I wonder what Bogaerts was thinking while standing out there in the heat during that interminable debacle in the eighth inning?
  14. I think Bloom is a very intelligent man. No question. Unfortunately , he is also a pencil neck geek . I think he has trouble relating to ballplayers and to Joe Soxfan. Regardless what you may think were the circumstances surrounding the Mookie trade , when you are the new Sheriff in town and your first move is to trade the best and most popular player the team has had in years , the face of the franchise , if you will , you are getting off on the wrong foot and you had better win. I personally think he should be given his walking papers , but I doubt that will happen at this point. I do not know how long of a leash he is on. I think the best thing he could do now to right the ship would be to extend Bogaerts and Devers and then, during the off season , get to work on improving the bullpen and the outfield.
  15. Trading Casas and keeping Hosmer at first base would seem to go against everything they are supposedly trying to accomplish. I could see keeping Hosmer around in case Casas doesn't pan out , but Tristan has to get a shot here.
  16. Old Red , How long do you suppose Bloom is going to get ? I am starting to see talk of 2024 being our year. What's next ? 2025 ?
  17. Everybody should love their Mom . But top shelf liquor should never be sold to a drunken sailor . As for the Dodgers , they must be doing something right. They have a very good ballclub.
  18. Vazquez goes under the bus again . How in the world was he ever the starting catcher and one of the hardest working , most reliable and well liked guys on the team ?
  19. The Mets have gotten little from Scherzer , nothing from DeGrom and absolutely zero from Cano . They are not using it as an excuse or complaining . They are riding high . And they are one of the best bets to win it all this year. Their fans are not complaining.
  20. You can't expect productivity from Price , since he was traded ( along with a future Hall of Famer ) in 2020 . One of.Bloom's first moves. Perhaps he could have he negotiated with the Dodgers to pick up more of his salary ? Sale was loved by most Sox fans . Now that he got hurt , he is an albatross. J.D. has been worth his money. Power is down , but still one of the best hitters on the team . One of the things folks like to emphasize is the Sox coming within two games of the World Series last year. Who outpitched Cole in the critical play in game ? It was Eovaldi . Now he is a burden? These things happen. You still need to compete.
  21. Holmes has certainly done a good job . Perhaps a better job than he is normally capable of doing. This could be a market correction. In any case , bringing your closer in in the 8th inning is something that should not become a habit , tempting as it might be.
  22. Drunken sailors is not a good analogy. Drunken sailors are known for foolishly throwing their money away after a long time at sea. The Dodgers have been consistently smart and good. Currently , they are 73 - 33. And rings are never guaranteed , the ever expanding post season being the near crapshoot that it is. The objective should be to consistently field a contender.
  23. Vinyl is popular again. Old school. Retro is cool.
  24. Not mocking another poster or anything. Perfectly okay.
  25. I just find it incredulous that a few folks on here are so loyal to Bloom. The product we are watching does not justify it. And I dare say that is the prevailing mood among Sox fans. I am not going after anyone personally. In fact , there are comments directed toward me that I might find insulting if I was the sensitive type. But I'm not.
