  1. Of course I get the point . But the point is ridiculous . If I sell my car and still owe payments on it , I have to make those payments . But I can't drive the car . The Sox traded Price ( along with some other guy ) and agreed to still pay half his salary . So don't complain that he is not pitching for you . You did it . Live with it.
  2. I get a laugh when folks keep complaining that we are getting nothing from David Price . HE WAS TRADED ALMOST THREE YEARS AGO . How in the world are we supposed to be getting anything from him ?
  3. When the team is in last place on August 18 , the GM is going to get criticized whether you like it or not.
  4. The goal is always to win a championship. All the owners and GMs can do is consistently put together a team that has a real shot. After that , you just have to hope that things break right in the post season. John Henry cannot will Dave Roberts to steal a base or David Ortiz to get a big hit. During the long drought/curse the Sox had several teams that were good enough to win it all. But there were always a couple of plays that went the wrong way. That's life.
  5. The Rays have never won a championship . And it doesn't look like this is the year either. They don't like to spend money . But they do like those revenue sharing checks.
  6. That shouldn't be just dismissed out of hand. Players develop bad habits without realizing it . A good hitting or pitching coach can sometimes spot things that can make a difference.
  7. Florial strikes out too much. But anything would be an improvement over Hicks , who looks bewitched , bothered and bewildered.
  8. The Pirates are one of the worst teams in MLB. Sox cannot have a let down here. Have to beat these kind of teams.
  9. I think Mariano Rivera was the first one I heard say that about short memories. Since he was certainly the best closer ever , his opinion carries a lot of weight. Then you see a guy like Holmes , who looked almost unhittable , blows a couple of saves and now seems to have lost all confidence.
  10. I'm in , if it helps to build the farm.
  11. I have heard so many people in baseball say that a blown save is the worst kind of loss. Very demoralizing. The tension in the ninth inning of a close game is like no other inning. And everyone in the ballpark feels it. But some people just don't see it that way . The subject has been debated to death . There is no point in continuing . Everything has been said and it is now all redundant. We can all be content in our opinions , even if they are wrong.
  12. That's true , but you could probably say something like that about anybody . A team game for sure. Diaz is a very big part of it.
  13. Their fans were ecstatic in 1986. On the other hand , I was in total despair. Things have sure changed since then. Now , the Mets have a new owner , new GM and a whole new winning attitude. And Diaz is a big part of it.
  14. Baseball is entertainment. And the Mets have a good thing going. Diaz enters the game to the blare of trumpets and the crowd is really into it. They are having a great time at Citi Field. And they are one of the favorites to win it all this year.
  15. I think not spending big on the bullpen is part of the analytics creed. Most folks who are really into analytics subscribe to this. Bloom would certainly be in that category.
  16. Chris Sale told the Sox chief of medical operations , Dr. Vinnie Boombatz , that he gets dizzy when he looks down. Dr. Boombatz told him , " Don't look down."
  17. We all know that small sample sizes should be taken with a grain of salt. And yet , we all continue to be either impressed or dismayed by them , as the case may be.
  18. I like Bogaerts and I think the Sox should make a serious effort to re-sign him. Trea Turner is better than Bogey and he will be paid accordingly.
  19. Harm , It would be a beautiful day in the neighborhood if we could all follow those rules.
  20. Yes. Much depends on where the greatest area of need happens to be. Ideally , you would like to have a strong rotation and a top notch closer with good set up men. But in reality , you have to make the best of what you have.
  21. Max , With all due respect , this forum is for everyone to express their ideas and their opinions. However , you have a way of talking down to people , most notably Old Red , in a very arrogant and condescending manner . It is very off putting. And you do it a lot. That is my opinion. And here is one more opinion ; Dennis Eckersley knows more about the workings of the game of baseball than you could ever hope to know. As I said , with all due respect. No offense.
  22. I agree with this . I never give up hope and I don't expect the players or manager to either.
  23. The Yankees have not been hitting for a while now. Need to keep that going for at least one more night.
  24. I don't know the answer , but if you are drafting high school players , it would probably take longer .
  25. In hindsight , probably not. But Tito had a long run and a change was probably in order. Sadly , it was handled very poorly. Tito was disrespected . Theo left. Valentine was supposedly brought in to crack down . But the players , who liked Tito, rebelled and Valentine got zero support from the front office . The whole thing deteriorated from there .
