  1. I think trading Mancini was a slap in the face to long suffering Oriole's fans , who were just starting to get excited about the team . It has to hurt their chances of making the playoffs. The players are surely playing hard , but Mancini has to be missed..
  2. It is easy to sustain mediocrity. Difficult to sustain excellence.
  3. I like Theo and I like Tito . To me , 2004 was the greatest time in Red Sox history. I will never forget it. In 2011 , Tito was derelict in his duty for some reason . As were the pitching coach , ( was it Young ) the bench coach , Hale and the captain , Varitek . It was disappointing to learn about later.
  4. Having a chicken and beer party during the game is plain wrong . There is no excuse for it . I know I am old school , but the amount of nonsense , goofing off , gold bricking and lolly gagging that goes on today is disgraceful. And not just in baseball. It is everywhere. And the people in management and supervisory positions that allow it are a joke.
  5. The chicken and beer thing was perhaps overblown because the team collapsed down the stretch and the pitchers involved looked tired , out of shape and pitched poorly. It looked like Tito , a definite player's manager , was being taken advantage of. Maybe it happened on other teams as well , but it should never be excused , condoned , ignored or permitted. And where were the bench coach , the pitching coach and the team captain ?
  6. Sometimes , folks just have a knee jerk reaction. The Fox announcers last night did an excellent job in calling what was a close and exciting game.
  7. There is a price for everything. If you want a certain player and you want a great team , sometimes you have to pay that price. You can call it an overpay if you want. You can say that eventually the player will not be worth it , but sometimes you have to go that extra mile. And it gets more expensive all the time. Now , you can try and build a great team without doing that , but you better be very good or very lucky .
  8. The proof is always in the pudding . And this pudding has a sour taste.
  9. They should not have been caught off guard by the squeeze bunt . Watching on TV , I was expecting it . The camera caught Boone flashing signs and Benintendi looking intently at him. But it was a good bunt and I don't know if it made a difference .
  10. You just have to have some fun and enjoy things. That was an exciting game last night . Had me on the edge of my seat or standing. I felt sure the Sox were going to win it in the 9th. It had a big game feel and not like watching a team that was 16 games out. Baseball can still be fun and exciting . Don't let it make you miserable. The curse ended 18 years ago.
  11. Whatever system they are using for constructing a bullpen should probably be reevaluated.
  12. I have no idea what you are even talking about . I do very little bashing of Cora or the players. I am very supportive and always have been. And I'm not the least bit thin skinned. You , on the other hand , always have a player or two that , for some reason , you hold in disdain. You take every criticism of Bloom personally . And you put more folks on ignore and get into more prolonged spats and feuds on here , by far, than anyone. I don't know you , but you seem to have a compulsive urge to have the last word and have your opinions dominate this forum. I promise that I won't be the least bit offended if you put me on ignore permanently.
  13. Closing is a tough gig. Not too many guys can do it well for a good length of time. Holmes has good stuff , but he may have been a bit of a flash in the pan. It looks like it is starting to catch up with him. Chapman is not what he used to be , but he still has that track record of success in closing out games.
  14. Wow ! That seems like an awful lot of work to go to just to take yet another shot at Christian Vazquez..
  15. I have watched O'Brien do college football . He is much better at that. He just doesn't seem suited for baseball on TV.
  16. I tried to get a bet down on the Sox at those odds with my local gambling impresario , Paul " Needlenose " Minagge. Old Needlenose just laughed , uttered a few choice words ( which I won't repeat here ) and walked away.
  17. If the Sox have any hope of getting back into the wild card picture , this looks like their best chance. Home for three against the Yanks , who have been slumping , not hitting and are going with the back end of their rotation in this series. Then , it's three against the Pirates and four vs the Orioles. Very beatable teams. All very winnable games. It may be a case of now or never. And to those of you who have already given up all hope , I have nothing to say.
  18. The market for Bogaerts may not be as good as you might think. The Dodgers will probably look to re-sign Trea Turner , who is better than Bogey and probably the best in the business. The Mets are happy with Lindor . And the Yanks are counting on their shortstop prospects , and need to spend big on Judge. Those are the big spending teams and they are not likely to go big on Bogaerts. The Sox really need to step up here and take care of business with Xander and Devers.
  19. I agree.. Where will it end?
  20. Even today , there is still a chance at the third wild card. But my feeling is that the third wild card is the cheapest of gimmicks. It gives an undeserving team a chance to get hot or lucky and win it all. A slim chance , but a chance nevertheless. It rakes in more money from the diehard fans. I despise this kind of stuff. One wild card is enough. To me , the third wild card is like hooking a small sunfish . Unless you are starving , you should throw it back.
  21. I would say the Dodgers , Mets , Yankees and Astros are looking like this year's final four. Maybe the Padres could make it. If I had to put money on who wins it all , it would be the Mets.
  22. JBJ signed with the Blue Jays.
  23. Now it's the fault of the fans !!!! And their " selfish desires ". Okay fans , under the bus with you.
  24. Obviously , we are not in on any of the negotiations. We can only guess. But Mookie is quoted as saying that he would have stayed in Boston if the Sox matched the Dodgers' offer. You can believe that or not believe it.
  25. The Dodgers definitely wanted Betts . Perhaps Bloom could have negotiated for a better deal. Maybe the Dodgers picking up all of Price's salary? People sometimes forget that Mookie is a very special talent. The return the Sox got from the deal was rather mediocre.. And I still have to question whether they made a full effort to resign Mookie.
