  1. Thunder , By any chance , have you read about what happened to Benedict Arnold ?
  2. Every single bookmaker had the Sox heavy favorites to win the game.
  3. Max , Please take your political views elsewhere. Keep it out of here no matter how much you are itching to argue.
  4. My two cents worth : I think Houck has every right to decline a vaccine with possible side effects when he is at very little risk of getting seriously ill from Covid . And I think barring him from working in Toronto because of it is unreasonable and plain wrong. Especially so given the fact that the vaccine , while maybe lessening the severity of the virus , does not prevent getting and spreading it . So it makes little sense , but Canada also has a right to make their own rules. As for trading , fining or penalizing Houck because of this , that is absolutely ridiculous. That is all I have on it and I do not want to see this devolve into another Covid thread debacle .
  5. Max , I did watch the game , but thanks for the recap anyway. The Sox won , by the way. There were quite a few blown saves in MLB this week , but this wasn't one of them. I try to be relaxed , happy and stress free. You should try it . It seems to me that if you found a hundred dollar bill on the sidewalk , you would complain that it was rumpled. Relax. Don't be so truculent all the time.
  6. Closin' ain't easy . The game is on the line . The guy at the plate , with bat in hand is giving it his best also. In the end , Houck got the job done. He got the save. The Sox won the game. But it is hard to please some people.
  7. Max , I think that you are not easily impressed. He has yet to make an error , but I'm guessing that you are taking a clue from a couple of other posters regarding his defensive shortcomings. Hitting wise , he is batting .300 so far in his brief stint . He hit .305 with a 910 OPS at Worcester. I admit that I don't know what his fWAR or his xbebop+ is at this point . I do think he should get a long look though.
  8. My feeling is that Duran should play every day. Give him every opportunity to show what he can do.
  9. It seems to me that every time Beane had a chance to go to a big market team , he turned it down . Why leave your low expectation comfort zone and risk being exposed as a phony genius? Now he is part owner of the failed franchise , albeit a very wealthy one. Also , I don't know what a crust punk is , but it sounds like something to avoid.
  10. " Wins per dollar " WPD. What' s his WPD? Where did you find that one? I take it all back. Beane is terrific. He is top three in WPD.
  11. Old Red , I am looking forward to seeing the Sox go up against better competition . As I had predicted , they have built up some winning momentum and confidence by beating up on the dregs of MLB. I think they are ready for the test that lies ahead. By the way , Oakland used to be a very good team with some great players . And they were fun to watch. That changed when the fake , phony , fraud, Billy Beane rode into town and got filthy rich promoting the cockamamie Moneyball nonsense. Never won a championship under him . Now , they are just another patsy .
  12. The Sox continue to be in a relatively soft stretch in the schedule. They need to keep on capitalizing on it just as they have been doing. There is no good reason for not feasting on a very weak Oakland club.
  13. When a player is traded or changes location , you can't be sure what will happen. Sometimes they do better , sometimes the same , sometimes worse . These guys are human , with human emotions . I would think it would be something pretty serious for a guy to walk away from a very lucrative contract .
  14. Betts was gone because Bloom traded him. Cora was suspended for cheating . Bloom hired his replacement , who basically phoned it in all year. Bloom did not inherit a mess. The team tanked . Please let Bloom win something before we make him out to be another Theo. All we are getting is excuses from the P.B.A.
  15. As for the farm , he inherited Houck , Duran , Bello , Casas and Mata . All considered among our best prospects today.
  16. The claim that Bloom inherited a mess is pure fiction. He inherited J.D. Martinez , Devers , Bogaerts , Vazquez , Moreland and an outfield known as the " Killer Bees" ( featuring the second best player in the game ) that was considered one the finest , if not the finest in the land . A pitching staff that included Sale ( injured ) , Eovaldi , E-Rod ,Price and Barnes. Not exactly what I would call a mess. At this moment , ( as we await the return of Sale ) Martinez , Devers , Bogaerts and Eovaldi are still the heart and soul of this team , and among the very best in the game today.
  17. Teams do want to be careful with how they use pitchers. Look around MLB and you see that a pitcher is breaking down almost every day as it is. Of course , in the post season there is an " all hands on deck " mentality. Nothing new about that.
  18. Two outs , two strikes and he hits Refsnyder with Devers on deck. The baseball Gods will not let you get away with that.
  19. Let's be honest . The use of anabolic steroids was very widespread in baseball , as well as other sports . To say that it was the other guys doing it and we were clean is either disingenuous , naive or just plain dumb.
  20. Personally , I don't blame Cora . He is doing the best he can with what he has to work with . Mixing and matching and trying to make it work. There is simply a lack of quality in that bullpen. It's not easy. As for Houck , I think it is an organizational decision to be careful with both him and Whitlock. I don't blame Cora for that either. I will say again that they should strongly consider Sale in the closer's role when he returns. At least for the rest of this season. I think that would be a huge help.
  21. Most people who follow the Sox know that the bullpen has been the major problem area . Starting pitching has been pretty good. Your unofficial scorecard lacks credibility. Right off the bat on opening day , Sox had the lead in the 8th inning and blew it. Had the lead again in the 10th and blew it . Lost in the 11th. The Yankee bullpen clearly out pitched the Sox bullpen. Yet , you say they did well . Credibility gone.
  22. Would you let it all ride on loss # 14 tonight ? Or take your winnings and quit ? That is always the question in gambling. Knowing when to quit.
  23. Cano is not in the Hall of Fame conversation. Not even a little bit.
  24. Sox are catching the Angels at the right time. They are a good team that is in total disarray . 13 game losing streak ! Maddon gets the ax. Playing without Rendon and Ward . Now Trout gets hurt. They are pressing and stressing . In clutch situations , swinging at pitches a foot out of the zone. Losing games every which way. It will be interesting to see if they can right the ship anytime soon.
