I think Kimbrel and Jansen are both past their prime. You don't have to get a big name guy anyway. But I would want a high velocity , triple digit arm who can take the daily pressure that goes with the job. I don't know if Houck or Schreiber can do it. Whitlock is probably better off in the starting rotation , working on a regular schedule. But there are plenty of young guns out there . And you need more than a closer. You need a few good arms in the bullpen.
I think Chapman has become a serious head case. Why did he keep throwing over to first with Martinez on ? Even J.D. looked at Rizzo like " what is this guy doing ? I'm not going to run." He had a rookie left hand hitter up. He should have blown Casas away. Instead he lost focus and walked him.
Judge obviously needs more really good years to get to Cooperstown. But he is surely on the right track. And along with the home runs , he is a real ballplayer. The play he made on Pham last night was outstanding. Yankee fans would go berserk if they let him get away.
I know I am a broken record on this , but just having a first rate bullpen would make the Sox a much better team. And maybe a power hitting outfielder.
No doubt it is easier to manage when you have the horses. Also, no doubt the manager and GM will get extra credit when winning and extra blame when losing. That's life. I do think it was very difficult for Cora to make good moves this year considering the awful bullpen he had at his disposal. That is squarely on Bloom.
It is what it is. Bloom is the man in charge. He has not done a good job. He has failed. I blame him much more than I blame Cora. Sox are in the cellar. 19 games behind the Yankees. Not trying to hurt anyone's feelings.
Pretty good fWAR for a guy who called in sick almost half the time. I guess attendance doesn't count. Anyway, it looks like (not certain, but likely), Philly is going to the playoffs.
Another example of the greed of MLB : Tomorrow night's game will be available exclusively on appleTV+ . Subscription required. Thank you for paying for NESN , YES , MLB Extra Innings and even Amazon Prime.
John Henry is like so many people in that he wants to take your money. Okay , but don't charge top dollar for an inferior product. And don't use the excuse that you have a budget. I have a budget too. And it is getting busted every day.
In Yankee history , Judge is approaching the status of Ruth, Gehrig, DiMaggio,Mantle,Jeter and Mariano. There is no way they can let him walk away , much less to the Mets. They have to sign him , overpay or not.
Kike Hernandez was re-signed for 2023 for 10 mil. A 3 mil raise from 2022. He missed a bunch of games and has hit .227 with an OPS of 650. Bloom promised him the team would be better in 2023. I guess Kike is pretty happy.
The stories coming out of the clubhouse are an indication of the player's feelings. I have not heard of any players denying that or expressing support for Bloom. From the reports , there does seem to be a problem. As for the fans , I know many , many loyal , diehard Sox fans. The very large majority of them are not at all happy with Bloom. That is what I am basing it on.
Bloom is the Chief Baseball Officer. Has been for three years. He is responsible for all that happens. He is not well liked by the players, the fans or the media. The team is losing. Viewership and interest is down. Does he really deserve to keep his job ?
We certainly don't know all that goes on behind the scenes , but it does seem that Bloom is not too respected in the Sox' clubhouse. What I would like to know is how Cora feels about the whole thing.
