  1. Exactly right. It dumbfounds me that the Sox do not seem to realize this.
  2. The Rangers look like a team that is flat out tanking. The sweep is there for the taking. Will it give the Sox some momentum as they face the better teams ahead ? Stay tuned.
  3. Maybe the walk off win can trigger some momentum. And it doesn't hurt that you are playing a team like the Rangers.
  4. Usually a mistake to use a mediocre lefty against the Sox.
  5. Assuming Bloom is doing what ownership wants him to do , his job is safe. Kennedy said as much. But from a fan's perspective , the part about "staying competitive " is what is missing.
  6. The top tier of closers have a success rate of nearly 90%. Not exactly a crapshoot.
  7. What is the title of this thread? We keep hearing the same talking points here , as well as a debate on Rick Porcello , but it's not okay to ask if Bloom's job should be in jeopardy as the season winds down? It seems to me that is also part of shooting the breeze.
  8. After all of the talking points have been given again and again , here is what we have: The Sox are in last place , 16 games behind the first place Yankees and 7 games behind the fourth place Orioles . Should the head of baseball operations job be in jeopardy?
  9. If we are going to start calling the set-up man the " relief ace" , they are going to want more money .
  10. Yeah. That's true . Lucky for me there was no game thread back then.
  11. We haven't seen the last of him.
  12. Don't blame me. That idiot McCarthy should have started Parnell.
  13. The agents actually do a good job of looking out for the players best interests and seeing that they get their share of the pie. Of course , they take their cut too. It's a shame that boxers never had that . Instead , they got/get ripped off by unscrupulous promoters , hangers on and managers ; and wind up beat up , broke and brain damaged.
  14. Last year the Sox and Yanks finished tied for second place. In the play-in game it was Cole vs Eovaldi . The Sox won. That's baseball. There is no bigger crapshoot than a one game showdown. Now , MLB is eliminating the play-in game.
  15. Ownership and management need to consistently field a team that is capable of winning their division and competing for a championship. There is not much they can do about the crapshoot nature of the post season. This year there will be twelve teams all hoping to get hot and grab the brass ring.
  16. When the Sox got Brasier in 2018 , he did a very nice job. Then they counted on him more than they should have , and he was unable to repeat his success. He became just another reliever . Not closer material ,but decent enough to keep around. A ham and egger. Now , it appears that even that is declining. But the problem is deeper than Brasier. This whole bullpen was poorly constructed. Need an entirely different approach.
  17. The bullpen needs a makeover. You could certainly start by releasing Brasier.
  18. I know we live in crazy times, but doesn't it seem to be a little strange to be firing Cashman and Boone with the Yankees in first place, while retaining Bloom and Cora with the Sox in last place, 17 games behind the Yankees?
  19. To Sam Kennedy: SCOREBOARD!!!!
  20. That argument just doesn't wash with fans. We can't predict the future. The Dodger fans are having a great time. The Sox fans are suffering. Are we supposed to take comfort in knowing that Mookie may not be as good when he gets older? Do you think the Dodgers are so dumb that they don't know that?
  21. I don't care how many years of control you have. Big deal. Where does it get you?
  22. Nothing against Verdugo. He is decent player despite the sometimes brain freezes and lack of hustle. Pretty good bat. However, his name should not be used in the same sentence as Mookie Betts. There is a world of difference between them.
  23. Jansen has been one of the best closers of the post Mariano era. But he is at the tail end of his career at this point. Diaz is the best in the game right now. I don't see how the Sox would outbid the Mets for his services. Better look elsewhere.
  24. Interesting series gets underway tonight at Citi Field. The Dodgers visit the Mets for three. The Dodgers are clearly the best team in baseball. But if I had to bet the farm on who survives the crapshoot post season and wins the World Series this year , I would pick the Mets.
  25. Eck is one of the few that I have seen who openly speaks his mind.
