  1. We have here a small, but very devoted group of Bloom fans. They like and identify with his style, especially the analytics, money ball and bargain shopping. They were happy with his hiring. Now, they will continually make excuses for him and try to spin things to his advantage. They will never agree with those who see his failures. And they will downplay or denigrate the success of other executives in order to make Bloom look better. There really is no sense arguing with these folks. Nothing will change their opinion. Results really don't matter to them as long as they like the process. They actually say things like , " finishing in last place doesn't bother me. " And so it goes.
  2. He took over a last place team and won the division. Then repeated. Then three peated. Then won the brass ring. To me, that was pretty good. You prefer to look at the traded " prospects " and the money . I guess it takes all kinds of fans to make Red Sox Nation.
  3. Dombrowski " walked into " a situation where the Sox had finished in the cellar two years running. He won immediately. He was far more successful than Ben or Chaim. The record speaks for itself.
  4. Harm, I referred to the past five seasons without Dombrowski. That would be 2014,2015,2020,2021and 2022.
  5. A last place finish is never acceptable as far as I am concerned. It represents failure. In four years under Dombrowski, there were three first place finishes and then a third place. That got him canned. In the past five seasons without Dombrowski, the Sox have finished last four out of the five years. This is the Boston " freakin" Red Sox. Let's see some major improvement in 2023. No more excuses and no more spin.
  6. It's one of those deals where some of the analytics show that he may be a better pitcher than his results would indicate. I saw him pitch for the Mets last year and he sometimes looked pretty good, but overall, not impressive. The career ERA of 4.56 certainly leaves a lot to be desired. The Sox bullpen was one of the worst in MLB last year so much improvement is needed. It is questionable if this guy is going to be much help.
  7. I think Darwinzon Hernandez still has more potential to be a good one than Joely Rodriguez.
  8. Joely Rodriguez is a 31 year old ham and egger with a career ERA of 4.56. Probably more bottle cap than buried treasure.
  9. Beachcomber Bloom hears his metal detector beep. He has found something. Hidden treasure or just another bottle cap ? We will find out soon enough.
  10. Old Red , I haven't been keeping up lately, but you must be doing pretty well because it looks like the Bloom crew are triple teaming you now.
  11. Everyone's favorite hedge fund billionaire needs a little more income.
  12. I think Bloom ticked off Bogaerts with the low ball offer , then giving Story a better one . There may still be time to correct that blunder. Or it may be too late .
  13. ..Have some of us dummies fallen under the influence of " talk show clowns ? "
  14. Maybe Hosmer is happy in the Boston area. His wife used to work for NESN.
  15. My point is just what it has been. In today's game , the bullpen is extremely important. That starts with a top of the line closer . Then you build around that. Hopefully with several high velocity set up men. The Sox have not been able to do that recently. And it has hurt them. Also, someone else brought up 2007 . That is why I mentioned Papelbon.
  16. The Sox had one of the worst bullpens in MLB this past season. And it cost them quite a few games. Major improvement is needed, not just a couple of tweaks . This should be priority number one.
  17. In 2007 , Papelbon was the closer. He was more than " capable of closing". He is all time top ten in saves. I do not see another Papelbon among in the Sox bullpen crew right now.
  18. They opened up a can of whup ass on Clemson. Ran the ball right up the gut. Estime is tough to tackle.
  19. The Irish put a good, old fashioned butt kicking on Clemson. Nothing fancy . Just physical, power football on both offense and defense. The best game they have played all year , by far.
  20. I am not a fan of Bill James and I can't think of many teams that depend on free agency for their players. I think the most common way to build a winner is through a combination of the farm , trades and free agency. I think the farm prospects can be used either to fill the team's needs or traded for someone who can. But no matter what method you use , you do need to be good at evaluating talent.
  21. Only a select few of them were able to finish in last place. Nice job , Chaim.
  22. You can build a winning team through your farm , through free agent signings or through trades. You do need to be a good judge of talent or very lucky to succeed. But every guy on your team is a product of a farm system , either yours or someone else's. I have no problem with trading prospects for established players.
  23. Cotillo is being a little too ambiguous . People are going to try and read between the lines to figure out just what he is talking about.
  24. 50,000 people at Citizens Bank Park , spending money and having a great time. The lights are out at Fenway , it is empty except for a couple of janitors. Nice job , Bloom.
