  1. Bregman is a very good ballplayer. And he has been for a number of years. He was having a really good season before the injury. But I think he is being a little bit overrated at this time by a fan base that is starving for heroes.
  2. I think it is unlikely that Bregman opts out of a $40 million deal. No one is likely to top that.
  3. Yes. Money is the reason for expanded playoffs. No doubt about that. Money is also the reason for many of the gimmicks, such as City Connect uniforms. P.T. Barnum knew what he was talking about.
  4. Having three wild cards is the lure that keeps teams and fans hopes alive. There are fewer sellers than previously. How can you justify throwing in the towel when you are three games out of a wild card with eighty games to play ?
  5. I want all of you to get up right now. I want you to get up out of your chairs. I want you to go to the window. Open it. Stick your head out and yell. " I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore. I'm as mad as hell and I'm not going to take this anymore ".
  6. Devers is a wealthy young man. He is not a child. Let's stop with the " He was promised third base " crap.
  7. I'm okay with anything if it helps the team.
  8. Off topic , but it seems that most of the threads are now started by " contributors" . Usually rather lengthy articles written by bloggers and/or aspiring sports writers with a somewhat similar style. And we have several new members with rather odd names who are trying to be somewhat provocative. I am not complaining. No problem with it. It just has been a pretty noticeable change in this forum. Maybe an effort to get more traffic and more advertising ? As I stated, this is not a complaint, just an observation.
  9. Soft stretch in the schedule coming up now. If the Sox do poorly in that, it will be real trouble. If,as is very possible, they do well , hope will be reborn. The sun will come out and the Fenway " faithful" will climb back on the bandwagon . What will it be? Gloom and doom or seashells and balloons? Stay tuned for the answer.
  10. It's not that deep of a hole. One game under .500. Six behind the Yankees. Two games out of a wide open wild card race. 81 games still to play.
  11. Essentially, the Sox are still trying to get back to where they were before the asinine decision to fire Dombrowski. But giving up on the season at this point is not something any fan should do. All of the opposing teams have big problems themselves. There is always a chance.
  12. Trading Duran seems like a bad idea to me. What this team needs is for him to get hot and add some life to this offense.
  13. I know. The thing is that they took five of six with the Yankees. Everyone was upbeat. Now, a so-so west coast trip has everyone despairing. There will be some high spots and low spots, but I think this team is better than it was the last four years. A little more productivity from the highly touted rookies would help a lot. It wouldn't take a whole lot to make the playoffs. Anyway, have fun with it all. No reason for all the angst. The second half should be interesting. Enjoy the ride.
  14. Every day, one or more MLB pitchers hit the I.L. Yesterday, it was Dobbins number that came up.
  15. Fans should try to stay on at least somewhat of an even keel. Don't go nuts over every game. The Sox have their stopper, Crochet, going tonight. Kid Kaopectate. Then we can once again check the standings, schedules and scoreboard watch.
  16. Thunder, if you could actually influence what happens on the field, you would never have to worry about your bank account again.
  17. The Braves let Sale throw 116 pitches last Wednesday. I don't know if that had anything to do with the injury, but it was a very dumb thing to do. One of many dumb things Atlanta has done the last couple of years.
  18. Clarke Schmidt has a no-hitter through seven. He is over a hundred pitches, so I don't think Boone will let him finish.
  19. Campbell has a ton of ability. And he seems like a really good kid. He will emerge from this stronger and be better off for it. I see him as a big part of the Sox' success in the years to come.
  20. The Sox are on the upswing. Breslow is doing a good job. Who cares what some disrespectful, disgruntled supervisor of scouting thinks ? A guy that is too dumb to know he is live on Zoom. Good riddance to a bad apple.
  21. So far this season, Interleague play has been about even. While the N.L. has more good teams, they also have more weak teams.
  22. It had to happen. It was getting painful watching the kid struggle. He still has plenty of potential and getting a little more seasoning in AAA should be beneficial.
  23. You are not going to find anybody who will be able to match Devers' production in the lineup. It is up to several of the other guys to pick up the slack and produce some runs.
  24. In 2019, Sox management apparently thought that Barnes and Brasier could handle the late inning roles. But they couldn't and the blown saves were costly. Eventually , they turned to Workman. To make it worse, injuries and underperformance by the starting rotation pretty much doomed the season.
  25. Sometimes teams get into losing mode. They will find a way to lose. Then something happens to snap them out of it. They start to play loose and with confidence. It seems odd, but it happens.
