  1. All is fair in love and war. But if you enjoyed Pedro throwing 97 at or near a guy's head, you really should not complain about Machado taking out Pedroia.
  2. To me, the stress, anxiety and pressure ended when the " curse " was broken in 2004. Three more championships followed in the years to come, including the dominant 2018 season. Now, the pressure is off. It's all fun. Enjoy the games.
  3. A baseball game is more unpredictable than most sporting events. We should know by now that anything can happen. The post season is no different in that regard. I do think, and have stated all along, that the Red Sox are very capable of beating any of the top teams. There should also be no disputing that the Yankees are clearly a better team than the Guardians or the Tigers. Anyone who knows anything about baseball has to know that.
  4. I don't know. Boston picked a guy up off the scrap heap to start the game. A guy with a 0-9 record and an ERA near 7.00 at Worcester. And they rested their top relievers. They weren't trying to lose, but they sure weren't trying too hard to win. And Cleveland's comeback to win the Central notwithstanding, the Yankees are clearly a better team. I don't think there is much doubt about that.
  5. I just think the Yankees are a much more difficult opponent. And I really don't have much doubt about that. But a Yankees vs Red Sox series is still the best thing in baseball. But I would rather it be in the ALCS..
  6. Yeah. I don't know. They had no way of knowing that Cleveland would lose. I think they would still rather play Cleveland , whether home or away , than travel to New York. I am getting confused by it all.
  7. Assuming the Guardians are scoreboard watching, they know there is no urgency to win their game.
  8. Yes. I do think that the Tigers are not too upset about losing. Now, they play Cleveland . This seemed like the opposite of that old cliche, It's a shame that somebody had to lose. In this case it's a shame that somebody had to win. It doesn't seem right. Winner plays the Yankees. Loser plays the Guardians. Crazy system.
  9. Let's not get ridiculous. Of course you don't start Giolito today. But there are other options. Tolle could start. You could use the bullpen. Promoting DeLeon to start today was a surprising and odd move. Certainly not warranted by his performance in AAA. And it raises the question of if it is beneficial to the Sox to lose today.
  10. I saw the original post. I replied to it. To me, using DeLeon to start today's game looks suspiciously like an attempt to lose and get the lower seed. Perhaps to play the wild card series against the weaker Central Division champ. I can't say that for sure, but it certainly is not a good look.
  11. I don't know.. I don't care. Check out DeLeon's numbers in AAA. The point is; is it acceptable to try to lose a game in order to get a lower seed . Notin replied that you should play to win. I agree with that.
  12. DeLeon is arguably the worst pitcher in the organization. This looks like an attempt to lose this game, perhaps to get the sixth seed , as has been discussed before. It is not a good look no matter how you may try to justify it.
  13. No one could reasonably expect Cora to use Giolito today. But Jose DeLeon??? Really? Is that trying to win?
  14. The Yankees are simply a better and more dangerous opponent than either Detroit or Cleveland.
  15. This is not entirely the case. A Boston loss and a Cleveland loss would make the Sox the five seed and Cleveland the six seed. The tiebreaker system is pretty convoluted.
  16. It leads to suspicion that teams might intentionally dump games to obtain what they feel is a more favorable playoff position. This is something that the gamblers would certainly pick up on. And anything that casts doubt on the integrity of the games is obviously bad for the sport.
  17. The wild card series is best two out of three. The Division series is three out of five. The rest are four out of seven.
  18. As the late, great judge and boxing referee Mills Lane would say, " Let's get it on " !!!
  19. Would you rather be the fifth seed and play a series in the Bronx , or would you rather be the sixth seed and play a series in Cleveland or Detroit ?
  20. N.D. moved the ball at will against an outgunned Purdue team. But the defense was still atrocious. Next up: At Arkansas.
  21. We all know how MLB operates. They can never get enough of your money. They will always take advantage of their loyal fans(customers). But there will always be somebody trying to separate you from your dough. You just have to be responsible, know your circumstances and decide just how much you are willing to spend in order to satisfy your need to be entertained.
  22. There could be a scenario where it is better to be the third wild card than it is to be the second wild card. I think it would be preferable to play a series at Detroit or Cleveland than at Yankee Stadium.
  23. It is not really possible to handicap any single MLB game. Baseball is a game of inches, with variables, randomness and luck involved. These are professional athletes. They have been through many pressure situations. Any "choking" that happens is mainly in the minds of fans, sitting in their overstuffed easy chairs, munching their Doritos and sipping their diet Dr. Pepper, or whatever, while having anxiety attacks and clutching their pearls.
  24. The dumb tiebreaker rule should be flushed down the drain.
  25. Since Breslow took over, the Sox have gone from cellar dweller to contender. Not as big a turnaround as we saw with Dombrowski, but very good in it's own regard. But you can never please everybody.
