  1. Never discount the " wise guys ". They know what they are doing.
  2. J.D. is a ballplayer. He doesn't object to D.H.ing , but he wants to play in the field as well. Obviously , he is not the defender that our other outfielders are , but he is not a liability either. If playing some outfield keeps him happy and productive , I have no problem with it. Maybe down the road , he can be a full time DH.
  3. Yep. The game of baseball and most everything else as well.
  4. One wild card is enough. The only reason for a second wild card is to try and keep the turnstiles moving for teams basically undeserving to be in the playoffs. Not worth the problems it creates.
  5. The best thing about JBJ heating up is that it may put an end to this ultra long , repetitive and redundant debate.
  6. I am surprised the Yankees have not considered moving Stanton to first base. They have an abundance of outfielders and the highly regarded Bird looks like a bust. You are welcome.
  7. Shreve is a stiff. Their rookie infielders look like the real deal. Except for the overhyped Bird. Not so sure about the rookie pitchers. Starting pitching is a big question mark. You are welcome for my expert analysis. It will be a long , tough pennant race. By the way , can Boone answer one question without using the phrases " a little bit " or " kind of " ?
  8. We have made quite a few moves to get to the team we now put on the field. In my view , it has been worth it. We have an excellent roster. No need to make any more moves to try and create the perfect roster. No need to try and match the Yankees , move for move. Maybe a little tweaking is all that is needed. Let's not go overboard here.
  9. We always seem to forget the " presumed innocent until proven guilty " reminder. Let's not jump to conclusions just yet. That said , I found it interesting that when Hanley was released , his teammates were not exactly overcome with sadness. Even though he seemed to be well liked , there were no tears shed over his departure.
  10. Bradley is certainly an enigma. We know he is better than this , but it just does not seem to be happening this year. I see some folks are searching for any numbers that may offer a bit of hope. But it is still a bottom line game. And the bottom line with Jackie is not good. Still , I don't think trading him at this time would be wise or profitable. Just stick with him and hope for the best.
  11. We may have that already. Check the game threads.
  12. They would have different types of robots. There would be your basic player's robot. Then there would be your more old school disciplinarian type robot. The GM could select which model he wants , probably from Amazon.
  13. You might have to reboot them once in a while , but the trainer / tech could probably do that between innings .
  14. How about a robot manager ? They have chess computers that can beat the best grandmasters. Surely they can program a robot to manage better than what we see in MLB. And they wouldn't get upset if you second guessed their decisions.
  15. I don't think AGon being Hispanic had anything at all to do with his being disliked by some fans. He was known as a complainer and clubhouse lawyer. That rubbed some the wrong way. Also , some may have had unreasonably high expectations for him. Also , and sadly , some disliked him for his outspoken religious views. The word " racist " is thrown around much too loosely . Real racism should not be linked with every little thing that happens in life.
  16. I don't like having the manager tell the ump to hold on for a minute while we check the replay to see if we decide to challenge. If you want to challenge , do it immediately or keep the game moving.
  17. I think some fans have never completely recovered from the many disappointments and heartbreak of the pre 2004 years. The negativity and pessimism is too deeply ingrained in them , and nothing can totally change that. No matter how good the team may be , they will always be worried , unhappy and waiting for the other shoe to drop.
  18. I think most people understand the importance of defense. But let's face it , the lack of production from the bottom half of the order is a real concern no matter how you slice it.
  19. The idea of the wild card game was to have more teams involved in the race down the stretch. Hence , more fan interest and more money at the turnstiles and in the TV ratings. However , it is not going to work out too well. I can't remember a time when there were so many crappy , non-competitive teams in MLB as there are now. With zero chance of making the playoffs. The empty seats around baseball parks will be an embarrassment to the sport by late this summer.
  20. Ben's much discussed prospects were , for the most part , very heavily hyped. Perhaps somewhat over hyped. On the whole , they really have not lived up to the hype as yet. The fact that we were able to get Sale and Kimbrel , two of the best in the game , possible Hall of Famers , for them is something to be applauded , not regretted.
  21. I don't like the managers telling the umps to wait while they examine the video. If you want to challenge , do it right away.
  22. Sabathia should be home in an overstuffed easy chair. Watching Netflix with a bag of donuts at hand. # out of shape
  23. The Marlins do things for a reason. Mostly to shed salary , save money and build for the future. Trading for JBJ would not fit in their plan. Not going to happen.
  24. WAR is just a player evaluation system that someone came up with. Take it for what it is. Or use your own . No matter how you want to look at it , Mookie is the best in the game right now. You can't give it to Trout on reputation alone. As for ESPN , their credibility is not very good , to say the least.
  25. I think MLB has a growing problem with competitive balance. There is an abundance of crappy teams. You could almost cut to the AL playoffs right now.
